Hi Everyone! We are so excited and up until the last few weeks never thought we'd get to do this so soon. Hubby is 58 and I am 54, we will be using a Nevada address as we own property there. That said, we are retiring from CA (and leaving it as quick as possible) so our biggest concern is our health insurance. We have Kaiser now but they don't cover in NV. I realize for full timers probably need something that understands our way of life. Can anyone help? Thanks much!!

"We have Kaiser now." Meaning provided cheaply by an employer or in a group? Or are you paying the full price on your own.?
If the former, find out from them about coverage outside your home area. Even at reduced coverage for non-preferred providers, assuming that is true, you will likely come out ahead with little or no monthly premium.
If the latter, start looking for insurance in NV, your domicile.
Run a search on this forum for health insurance. You'll find plenty of topics.

Our friends just got Golden Rule (United Healthcare) with a $10,000 deductible -
so it is basicly catostrophic insurance - they can't afford other coverage.
They are both in the late 40's and have 2 kids! They said their premiums are
around $300.00 a month.

Most of the doctors in the area you will live in will know the best insurance that they participate in. Check with them first. Then the Hospital coverage is usualy seperate from doctors. Some people take jobs and work minimum hours to qualify for insurance, as it can be very expensive.

Whoever you decide on, start the application process quickly. Especially if you have any health issues at all, no matter how minor. When my Cobra coverage was due to expire in a little over 2 months, I started applying for new coverage. And still ended up with a short term where we did not have coverage.
We both take medication for high blood pressure (completely controlled), medication for high cholestrol (completely controlled). I take medication for minor palpatations (completely controlled). My wife has been diagnosed for diabetes (completely controlled by diet and exercise, no meds). I have never been a patient in a hospital. Wife has not been in over 15 years. We are both normal weight, active, and healthy. We were both turned down by United Healthcare and by Cigna. Ended up having to go into the Texas Healthcare Risk Pool to get insurance. The risk pool must take you, but you pay dearly for it.
But you gotta have it. My older sister passed away a couple years ago after a long illness. As her sole survivor and guardian, I managed her finances (little as they were). After a year and 3 months, her total health care bill was nearly $1 million!!! Fortunately she had Medicare and (as a gov retiree) lifetime BCBS insurance that covered most of it. But it still took all her pension and savings to cover the rest.

My parents had Kaiser in Ca also and my recollection is they are the Insurance company, hospital and provide the doctors too. Is that still correct?
I believe when dad retired, everything remained the same but they did remain in the same area.
I would hope that bruceandjenna's answer would apply - that is the insurance would support a reputable firm somewhere else and your coverage would remain the same.
Id be anxious to hear what you find.

Take a look at some of the nationwide plans offered by Blue Cross in your area. They work well for us but ours is a medicare supplement so your situation is a little different. Good luck / skip

Check this site. You can put in your stats and get quotes from several companies.

We retired early and had the type 2 diabetes diagnosis and/or high blood pressure. Most insurers will not underwrite those conditions.
Basically, we were uninsurable for a conventional private policy and ended up paying $1000/mnth each for a lesser policy than group insurance provided. That policy was required to be offered by the State of California, otherwise we would have had no coverage. For that reason, we remained in CA after the Cobra coverages lapsed.
If a similar result changes your plans, get your policy arranged as soon as possible to see if you want to continue with the retirement plan.

We checked into Einsurance online and got quotes from different companies. After giving them our specifics, three offered us coverage, but only Blue Cross/Blue Shield offered both of us full coverage, so we took them. The other two wanted to either eliminate me (Aetna), or DH (Golden Rule). Didn't make sense to us either, believe me! We made sure we found coverage while we still had our existing insurance in place, so there would be no questions about pre-existing conditions.
I have cholesterol issues (controlled), and hubby has no issues, but one of them thought his BMI being one point over the average for age, height and weight, was too high, so they wouldn't cover him, but would me. One thought my cholesterol being high, even though controlled with medication eliminated me, but DH BMI was a none issue. Only BCBS thought cholesterol being controlled was a none issue, and as DH took no medicines, he was fine for coverage.
I guess my point is, start looking right away, it will take time, and you don't want a lapse in coverage, or any existing problems may eliminate you from getting anything. We ended up paying $615 per month for both of us with a $3000 out of pocket cost.
