Anyone jack up the trailer to take weight off of those springs?

States I have spent the night in my current rig, bought three years ago.
Have RV'ed through 49 states and been in all 50, just short of my half-century.

I read an article that states leaving a spring compressed does not damage or weaken the spring, the compressing and decompressing, as in traveling down the road, is what weakens a spring. It seemed, at the time, to be an informed source.

I never unloaded construction trucks in the past and don't put down landing jacks while traveling. I don't see any difference between the two. A ton of 5th wheel is no different then a ton of construction equipment/supplies. If the truck can't do what it was designed to do maybe one should consider a different truck brand?

Thanks much for all your replies, I appreciate the input. I'd rather leave the fiver hitched if I'm not going to be using the truck but don't want to risk damage to the springs. I'll just lower the landing gear to take some weight off.

So, have you done it and had problems?

Or just a thought that it might not be good?

Luke, no I haven't had problems but someone told me it would be bad for the truck. This is my first RV and I haven't had it very long, so still am very much a newbie.

And now a year from now, someone will ask the same question remembering that he read somewhere that someone heard it would be bad for the truck
