I have been trying to figure out a solution for a Gmail issue I discovered some time ago:

I set up my business website and email but the email client that comes with my domain for my business is extremely clumsy, awkward and in general, junk.

So I forward all my business email to Gmail and I set up my Gmail account to send business emails. ( bob@mybusiness.com ) Within Gmail I can set it up to be from bob@mybusiness.com but here is where the problem lies:

When the email reaches the recipient, it shows up as myregularemail@gmail.com On Behalf Of bob@mybusiness.com.

I have searched and googled and read articles and tried everything. I cannot seem to get rid of that stupid "On Behalf Of" in my emails. I don't want that showing up on my business email. It looks tacky and unprofessional.

The purpose of this query is to find a workaround for Gmail - I am not looking to buy a Mac or try a pile of other apps! I want to continue using Gmail because I like it.

The only other thing I have not tried is to try forwarding it to my Outlook account. I use both Outlook and Gmail and don't want to add a third one to keep track of. I don't know if Outlook would have the same issue. I want Gmail because it's the one I use when I am on the road and it is easily accessible from anywhere in the world.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Have you tried using a client? Like Outlook Express? All you need is some basic information from the domain which they should be willing to provide. Most domains support IMAP. - Dave

PS...You wont be "forwarding" your email, you'll be using a separate client to retrieve and send your email from your domain.

Yes, I have seen this. A friend recently set up the same thing and when he emails me from Gmail it includes the "on behalf of" which, I agree, looks pretty unprofessional. Instead of forwarding your mail why not just set it up as another account in Outlook and POP it? Outlook does a good job handling multiple accounts, but if you find that is too confusing, you could download Thunderbird and keep the accounts separate. Either way, as just_dave indicated, you need to get away from Forwarding and POP directly from your mail server.

I use Outlook to forward everything from my work email to my home comast account. Never had any issues or "on behalf of" problems.

I'm thinking if you don't forward, but instead use Gmail to collect the mail via pop, you can set it to send as your other account, as Gmail knows you own the "from" email account.
I use Gmail to collect all of my accounts (though I use a client to fetch them from Gmail), but I see in my Gmail account setting an option to set the "from" field- either to the Gmail name, or the name of the original receiving account.

You'll get the same issue with some versions of Outlook. You'll just have to test it with your version. As suggested, it may not be an issue with Thunderbird.

You shouldn't get the problem if you use your web host email servers for outgoing mail. Just keep the forwarding to Gmail, but instead of using Gmail's outgoing mail servers, set it up to use your host's email servers, generally something along the lines of mail.yourdomain.com or smtp.yourdomain.com.

A tad sarcastic.. But, yes there is a very easy work around. I do all the time, 1492 bingo....

The Moderator Got it right on that link.
The other Option is to Set yourself up with Google Apps, Then go thru the process of changing your MX records to point to the Google Apps Gmail.
Google Apps Standard is Free, up to 50 email addresses. I just set this up for my church, it's pretty nice. This may be more than what you want to do though.

That's exactly what I recommended. Your Gmail setup under "Send mail from another address" would look like the above. Gmail automatically sets the default outgoing mail server settings. Should work in most cases, but if it doesn't, you'll need to get the specific outgoing mail server name and port from your web host.
