You take the metal lid on and snap this one on. Then you can pour the paint without it dripping on the sides. I dun-oh though, just guessing. I have a paint lid that look very similar to this, only is made of tin and the spout has a rubber cap, and no slot down the middle. If I come up with another idea, I'll post again! You shouldn't be going over light speed without it. OR Looks like end bell to a vacuum cleaner or there about.
