All of the points that everyone have made have to do with common courtesy. And I agree with most of them. But I don't believe Walmart cares what we do as long as we don't abuse their hospitality. That said the real culprit behind Walmarts that are posted NO OVERNIGHT PARKING are due to local laws that have been passed at the urging of local campgrounds led by KOA to ban all stopping by RV's anywhere but in a commercial park. Senior citizens in an RV are surely not a threat to anyone and don't pose a crime problem but we do not spend our money in their parks so they seek to force us into them. Even in areas where they are closed for the season.

Yep It's not Wal-Mart that pushes parking bans it's the local neighbors and camp grounds that push local government to pass parking laws.

Who makes the rules for walmart? Why are some people so offended by seeing jacks down and slides out?? Why do some think it is going to ruin it for all of us when walmart does not care?? Do you really think city hall will ban walmart parking because someone has a slide out??? Why do some people look down their noses at people that over nite at walmart???? Don't you think everyone would be better off if you mind your own business and let walmart worry about walmart business????? Oh well, some people will never change.

I have contacted Wal-Mart main offices and asked them to issue some kind of sign, bag, sticker or something to hang on an outside mirrow stateing {Here with manager's approval}.
They replied to me that Overnight parking is up to the Individual managers. I have asked managers at Wal-Marts that were posted (NO Overnight Parking} City ordinance # so & so if I could park overnight and was told (we can't controll the hours that you want to shop)
I take it that whey are telling me Park but don't be too obvious about it. So even if it is Posted NO Overnight, sometimes it still doesn't hurt to ask.

I sit on a Zoning Board of Appeals, and I will tell you that your statement is not true. It is something that Zoning Boards of Appeals and Planning Boards deal with every day concerning new commercial parking lots. And all commercial parking lots are addressed in zoning laws at town, village, and city levels. And public opinion is allowed during public hearings before any laws or decisions are acted on! When was the last time you attended a city, village, or town board meeting or a public hearing of the local Zoning Board of Appeals. If you haven't, shame on you! That is how these laws get passed!

If you want something to post in your own windshield or to slip under the wipers of an offender, click on this for a statement that has been worked out jointly by most of the major RVing organizations. If you look, you will see the seals of all of them at the bottom. This is not a personal statement, it is an industry agreed statement.
Print it out and use it to protect all of our rights to stay overnight in many gracious companies' parking lots. Also abide by it.

Everyone sure gets their panties in a bunch over this topic at least once a week or so. Why do you care what other people do? If abuse of parking at a WalMart is a problem for the manager, then it is up to that person to deal with it. If you want to park only in a "real RV park" then by all means please go there quickly. If you want to stop overnight at a WalMart parking lot, then please do that. Makes more sense to me to just be allowed to do what you feel comfortable doing.
Also seems like there are a lot of comments on this topic when the poster mentions one of those horrible DP's doing it. Like those of us with a DP don't want to save a buck or two when we're just passing through. Well, that's just my own opinion.

Sorry but I don't agree that camping in a concrete parking lot is "a good thing" I'd LIKE to make a funny comparison to something but can't really THINK of anything more boring to compare it with.

How do all the self rightous people on this forum know when a person has ASKED the managers permission to have their slide out, grill, etc. I have a parent that travels with us and we must have the slide out, but I do always ask 1)may we park overnight, 2) may we have the slide out (if they say no to either, we move on). We do not grill on these trips....but I don't assume a person couldn't ask for permisson to do so. After all, Walmart does sell steaks...don't they!

"I was amazed at what I saw and wonder how long it will be until we are kicked out of there. But no matter how many times it is brought up on this forum and other forums, people will continue to ruin a good thing."
Not sure that most Rv'ers are members of this forum and many that are couldn't care less about what you personally consider to be the ruination of a "good thing".
The only people that should be concerned with what goes on in Walmart parking lots are the executives at Walmart and so long as they permit overnighting, we can either ignore the rare so called "abuse" we see there or quietly accept what Walmart accepts as SOP.
Or, if it is that important to you, take on a boots on the ground public information campaign with the zealous do goody spirit of a missionary and go forth with pamphlets and your "Good Book of WalMart Parking" and convert those heathens with grills and awnings. I'm sure the miscreants will be more than glad to give you directions to a hot, hot campground.
