I see a lot of people building wooden decks beside their RV,s and staying for a month or two. Are wooden decks that cheap to build?

not that cheap. probably more like full timers rather and one month. there were quite a few in the park where I had a seasonal place.

I was at a Campground in Vegas and saw the same thing. Made me wonder also. I talked to one of the guys who had done it and come to find out he hadn't moved his MH (Class A) in 5 years, I also talked to several TT owners who didn't even own a vehicle to tow their TT.
I personally didn't get it at all why pay the money for a travel vehicle if your not going to travel.! I certainly wouldn't by a TT have it delivered and pay someone to move it. But they were happy so
to each their own I quess.

A couple years ago I built one 4 x 8 out of treated 2x6s laying on a framework of 2x4s. Counting the screws the total cost was around $60 give or take a little. We were staying there three months. I doubt if I would take it if I were only going to be in one place for a month as it is QUITE heavy. I made it the size it is so it would fit in the bed of my truck and therefore could be moved easily, but it's just too darn heavy to move very often. I have seen other people make them that size too-2 or more of them and bolt them together to make a really nice size deck then tear them apart at the end of the season-they fit just right in a pickup bed. I spent about $350 for my 8'x16' deck at our seasonal site; it's made of treated lumber and decking boards from Lowes. In two pieces and all screwed together so I can move it if need be.

A lot of people park permenantly because they can't afford a house and you can live pretty cheap in some parks as fulltimers, I know it seems wastefull especially with a motorhome. Due to the economy I plan to put a big 5er in a rv park in the future, not to travel but live in. I'd get a park model but some parks don't allow them

I know of a class A pusher that was for sale for more than 2 years… he planed on getting a 12 wide… when he couldn’t sell the MH he had a 20X40 roof over built over it… it is blocked and will never move again…
I will get a picture if I get a chance… they did a nice job but it is different for sure…

This is all due to medical reasons, and he wasn’t going to give the MH away due to a bad economy…

I also know a lot of people that have trailers and boats and no TV… they store them at the CG, and if they decide to come up to the lake they call ahead… when they check in the trailer is on the lot waiting to be set-up and the boat is docked already…

It used to cost them $5 each to have them moved on the site… much cheaper than buying fuel to tow it…

There are a lot of ways to use them, and enjoy them… there is even one hoisted up into a tree by my home…

One of my Bud's builds one every winter for his class A. The reason is,his wife is handicaped & needs the area for stability. The door & steps are hard for her to negotiate. It makes life much easier for her.

I actually saw a portable one in a campground. The couple had a handicapped relative (mother-in-law I believe) and they set up a small deck, with rails and wheelchair ramp off the doorway. It was quite interesting to watch the driver set it up--took about 20 minutes--it had room for the ramp and a small area for the wheelchair. Stored everything in one of the bays.
