About the only thing I understand about electronics is plug it in, push the button and hope it works!

I've come into possession of a three lnb HD antenna. It has four leads, all of which were cut below where it is connected. What type, and how long, cable(s) will I need to buy to attach them to the "goesoutof" connection part?

Also, can I use a HD antenna when all I have is a non-HD TV (I know, I'm a Neanderthal, but I already have a couple at home)?

How do you know it's a 3 LNB dish? It's hard to tell from the outside. Does it have three white heads protuding from it and does it say "Slimline" on it? Then's it's probably a five LNB dish. What does the dish say on it? If it's for DirecTV and is the newest HD dish, it has only one white protusion and it is a 3 LNB dish. The four connections are for four seperate receivers. All you need is one RG6 cable running from one of the connections to a HD receiver with an authorized card in it. The length of the cable depends on the distance between the dish and the receiver.

Sorry, I've been with DirecTv for so long I tend to forget there's any other kind! It is a 3 lnb as I previously stated. This is not in a dome, but rather the type that one has installed on one's house. A friend is switching to DISH and I want to convert it to my portable antenna (I already have an "old fashioned" non-HD antenna on the roof of my MH).

Since I have two TVs in the MH, I guess I can just remove the two cables I currently have on my poirtable antenna and place them on the "new" one.

The three LNBs (Oval) dish has one trick to it that the single (Round) dish doesn't. The Oval dish requires you to not only adjust the Azimuth and Longitude but you also have tilt. This requires you to check the other two satelites to be sure the tilt is correct to pick them up. The LNBs at the end of the arm can be removed and there you'll find the standard RG6 connectors. Here is the link to the Manual for a Triple LNB manaual that might help.

The 3 LNB dish and manual listed in Buckeye's post is the old dish when DirecTV was using Ku band for HD (it's now on Ka band). This is a Ku band only (101/110/119) dish and was replaced by the Slimline 5 LNB (101/110/119/99/103) adding the Ka band satellites. This was then replaced by a 3 LNB dish (101/99/103). That's why I asked how you knew that it's a 3 LNB dish, it's not easy to tell what you have.

Now I'm REALLY confused! I was really happy and grateful that Matt sent the manual, but now...I just went to the garage to look at it and it does look different from the one shown in the manual. It does have the word "Slimline" on it and on the bar where lnbs (I think) are located, there are three, all different sizes. Two are round and covered with a lens of some sort and the other looks a little like a traffic light on its side. There is space to the one side of the weird shaped one for other lnbs but nothing is there.

So are you saying that I have a 5 lnb antenna and the manual won't apply? It's beginning to soun as if I should call an off duty DirecTv tech and have him set it up for me.

Also, can I still watch a non-HD TV through this antenna and how can I align it? I doubt that the satellite acquisition finder we have now for the old portable would work.

Dies this look like what you're describing?

Directv AU9

If that's it, it's the 5 LNB AU9 for the 99, 101, 103, 110 and 119 satellites. Underneath what you describe as a traffic light may be a label that says AU9. At least there's a label on mine.
If that's what it is, I used it for watching SD from the 101 and 119 satellites before we got the HD.
On the link I gave you, under Product Documentation is a link to an Installation Manual.
The manual that Matt sent you looks like it's for the Dish for the 101, 110 and 119 satellites.

If you don't have an HD Directv receiver then this new Dish does nothing for you
