It must have been very hard for you... the sad fact of rescue, of course, is that you lose some... but that never makes it any easier, does it? Anyway I'm glad to know that the little one had a home, if only for the night, and someone to care for him and mourn his passing.

That's what we're all here for...

Did they tell you why this happens when a litter is removed from a shelter?

The Mom and her pups are sure lucky for the generosity and care given to them.

Thanks for the encouragement. After the one major setback all is going well. Vet says all the dogs are in great shape and the Mom is only two years old, possibly less.

Due to a little paranoia, I'm weighing the runt and the smaller pups a couple of times a day to make sure that they are getting something from Mom. So far, so good.

The wife and I actually got some sleep last night,

Great job, Paul and Helen! Did the vet tell you to put Mama on puppy chow and give her vitamin supplements? It would take a lot out of a healthy dog to feed 8 pups and in her depleted condition, she will need to eat and drink more than she normally would. Heck, I'd be slipping her a hamburger here and there. Do they seem to be mixed pups? Too many owners dump a preggy dog when they know she's having a litter of muttskis. Those babies make some great pets, though. Post photos when you can and thanks again!

It is always sad when we lose one, especially a young one. Sorry to hear about the pup, I know how tough that is.

Keep up the good work, concentrate on the ones you have helped save and celebrate them. Thanks for fostering, it is much needed and very appreciated by those of us involved in rescue!
