I tow a 37' Montana fifth wheel with a 2005 F250 Power Stroke. This truck came equiped with Continental load range E tires and the first replacements were the same.
This time I bought a set of four new Goodyear, load range E, tires. Since replacing the tires my steering has become more difficult. The rig seems to drift, causing constant steering adjustment. After driving a couple of hundred miles I'm exhausted. I now have about 1200 miles on the tires and it has not improved. I maintain the pressure at 80 psi, just like always. The same pressure as the fifth wheel tires.
Just wondering if anyone else has had similar problems.

I'd drop the air pressure down on the fronts to whatever is recommended on your door jamb. Good luck.

You say you replaced the conti's with goodyears, but which model?
If the conti's are the same as the ones on my truck then it is a nice street tread and if the goodyears are an all terrain, then yes this may cause the truck to wander more as it is a more aggressive tire.

A newer more agressive(deeper tread) will do this, plus the tire releaseing agent used in the molds. This was told to me by a Michelin tire rep when I posed a similar question. His response, milage(read wear) will eliminate the wander. Mine lasted about 1k. Was real scarry the first time I pulled my 9.5k TT(not the one in my sig). I thought I had a rear flat, and I tow with a 8k Excursion!!. And sure enough after about the 1k+ things settled out. Your experience may vary. I had Michelin and you have Goodyear.
Good luck...........

It is true that these are AT type tires.
What Paul B says is what I was kind of hoping to hear. Maybe they will get better.

If the above suggestions don't clear it up, start thinking about the steering box being loose or worn out. I don't know how many miles you have on the truck, but it is a possibility. My father had a Superduty that had a bad steering box, and he said when he checked into it, it was a common issue.

I have Goodyear Wranglers and have no problems so far. I only have about 3,000 miles on them.

I've also had what Paul described when I put new steers on my truck. GY told me it would disappear quickly but if I wished, they'd put the new tires on the rear for awhile till they 'broke' in. I let it ride and within a week, all the wander was gone. Had it again later when I put Bridgestones on as new steers and within a week they too were 'normal'.
