Seems like my wife is going to have to go to Denver on business next summer so I am trying to figure how to plan that into the family vacation. She needs to go to the north part of town- near Thornton I believe. Is there anything close by (with 15 minutes)?? we have a class C & no toad at the moment, so I don't want to have to break camp to go into town to get her/ pick her up.

We stayed at Chatfield state park. Very nice park. Paved roads and sites.

ST. Vrain State Park - about 15-20 minutes north of Thornton (depending on traffic) along I 25 is about the closest I can think of. It is accessed from a frontage road west side of I 25, from the Longmont exit.
Chatfield SP is at the far SW corner of the metro area. Tornton is on the far NE - a long commeute!

Cherry Creek State Park is nice too, but probably a 30 min commute to Thorton, but all freeway.

Clear Creek CG -- On 10th street in Golden you can take Rt 6 right to Town, about 15 miles door to door -- $28 for FHU you will need to call at 7:00 in the morning to see if they have a vacancy. Only have maybe 28 sites This is were I always stay it is right on the Creek and right in town.

Jefferson County Fairgrounds – If clear creek is full this is available with electric and water with a dump station actually this might be better as it is only 10 miles to Town large pull thru sites. -- $20 -- Just need to be sure nothing is going on at the arena maybe 60 sites. Stay here if you cannot get into Clear Creek near the big Mall for shopping and food, closer to Town.

Dakota Ridge is nice just not my style Very tight and almost right on the Highway. Plenty of sites in the off season -- $40 – couple miles from the fairgrounds -- 12 miles to downtown -- well kept place and all the people are helpful

Another vote for St Vrain St Park. Stayed there a few times. Do the non FHU loop. A little further from hwy & has treed sites. FHU area is wide open.

St. Vrain State Park just outside of Longmont would be my choice. It is located at the junction of I-25 and Hiway 119. To enter the park you have to go west on 119 for 1 mile, the entrance to the park is marked and will be on the north side.
You don't have to contend with rush hour traffic going across town. The drive at rush hour will be about 20mins. or less.
If your going to be there over a weekend I strongly suggest you make reservations. You can do this throught ReserveAmarica web site.
The sites with the best shade are 6, 7, 8, 23, 30, 32,(23,30,32 are drive through.) All the roads in the old camping area are paved. All sites have level concrete pads.
All site numbers above 41 are in the new area that opened this year. These sites are full hookups but no trees, gravel roads and minimal grass.
The wife and I stay there every other weekend during the summer (Apr-Oct.)
In 2010 all the prices are going up. A park day pass will be (all prices per day) $8, non-FHU site $20, FHU site $24.

Do you still have to pay the daily fee every day you go in and out, even though you have already paid to camp at a Colorado State Park?

Yes, there is a daily fee. And if you have a MH and tow a toad, the daily fee is charged for each vehicle. Doesn't seem right but that is the rules at this time.
