Considering moving up to a Class A. My budget is around $80k so I am looking at used units. I have 2 boys (9 and 11). We started off thinking a bunk model was the way to go and focused in on the Winnebago 35J. Problem is that the counter space is very limited and Mom was not impressed. We realize that only looking at bunk models limits our choices. I have read where some went with a double couch model. What brands and models with have double sofas?

I don't know what Mom expects in counterspace, but a few square feet is a luxury.
You have got the dinete bed in addition to the sofa in all Class As.

How about a large class C for now, whereas the boys can have the overhead bunk thats out of the way and you and DW can have the rear bedroom. Thing is about bunkrooms in A's, they usually adjoin the master BR and do take up space that could be used otherwise.

Tiffin Motorhome has model(s) with bunk beds and they're made in your neighborhood. Excellent motorhome overall as well. Kitchen space is always a problem according to the DW. If she had her way, we would have a 92'RV with 88' being kitchen.

Good luck in your search and you'll gain points with the boys and oh be sure you get the individual dropdown TV's for the bunks.

with the couch and dinette, 2 boys won't be a problem. Even if/when they bring friends along, there's always the floor and sleeping bags.

To me it is a no brainer. Go for a bunk model. No pulling out sofabeds and dinettes every night and then putting them away in the morning only to do it all again the next night. With a bunk model the adults have the living room space in the evening after the kids go to bed. I would not enjoy a class A with kids without bunks.

If you find a bunk unit that fits your needs great. The Winnebago auto sofa bed will easily sleep two when the foot section is raised. Then there is the dinette. My kids always preferred to set up a dome tent under the awning. They preferred the independence of being outside the rig. I would suggest going to an RV show or one of the displays at an FMCA or Good Sam rally. I think you will find that counter space is rarer than bunk beds in a class A.
Happy Trails.

I think that the Forest River Georgetown has a model with bunks.
The Damon Daybreak 3575 has 2 sofa's, the 2007 Damon Challenger has bunk beds and 2 sofas and the 2007 Damon Challenger 377 has 2 sofas also.

You can see the Damon Daybreak here and the Challenger here.

Some friends of ours with boys have a rig and the boys set up their own tent. In fact they even got one of those portable garage shelters so that the boys can use it with a tent inside during the off season complete with an electric heater inside. Might be worth considering as that gives the both age groups their own space. It also allows them to invite a friend or two assuming the tent is large enough...
