Headers (required to fit the Miata chassis), free-flowing intake, and a cam, I suspect. A stock LS1 in an F-body (Camaro SS/Firehawk) was 315HP, IIRC.

My friend has roped me into his car project. Again. He used to have a 1992 SS Mustang, but his wife seems to have grabbed that one. He's picking up his new projcet this weekend: a 1991 Mazda Miata--$500 with a bad engine. The plan is an LS1-powered Miata using Flyin' Miata's conversion kit. (Yes, there's a kit for an LS1 Miata!)

So...does anyone else think this car might be scary?

Insane, indeed! Reminds me of my mispent youth, putting small block v8's in small British sports cars. Kinda tough on the tires when starting up from a stop. Had to really ease into forward motion.

Should be no scarier than a Bugeye Sprite with a 478 hemi.

(Yes, I've seen this car in person and it was very nicely done.)

Hey, I had a '59 bugeyed Sprite. But it just had the regular 948cc 4 cylinder. Had a hard top and ski rack for the winter. Drove it to most of the ski areas around here. Ah, the good ol' days

Yeah...actually, no. We're getting an engine/trans from a donor car for about half that (or less).

Donor car found, bought, and stripped for parts: a 6-speed 2000 Z28 ragtop, hit in the right rear. And his wife got him the Flyin' Miata V8 Roadster conversion kit for Christmas. The project continues...he wants to have it ready for the Hot Rod Power Tour in June.
