We have not towed yet either......won't until spring. Hoping dropping the fluid as per the TSB fixes the problem. Good news is Ford is replacing the trannys under warranty, but who can go without a vehicle for a week or 2

Just picked up our Fusion today. All the new requirements listed in the TSB are now in the instructions in the owners manual so Ford is definitely being pro-active on this issue.

Next step is to get the mounting brackets on order and then installed. Probably won't tow until spring either, just want to get the brackets on in case we decide to take a winter trip somewhere.

I installed the brackets on our Escape and it wasn't too bad a task. I was surprised at how much the plastic parts exceeded the one steel part which was made of sheet metal - the Roadmaster cross member for the brackets weighed at least 3x as much.

Well I looked at the install doc from Roadmaster and the dealer can do the work! It gets pretty deep into removing things I have no way to accommodate. The dealer has a slightly discounted price on the hardware and a flat rate on all installs so they can do all the work.

The baseplate is about $300. I'll do the install myself, as I can trust my own work, and am fortunate enough to have the tools / space. What I am running low on these days are time and patience.

If Ford is having this, maybe those of us buying new cars for toads should look at more reliable vehicles for this purpose. Maybe the Honda CR-V or the Suzuki Grand Vitara.

I don't believe the Fords are unreliable, the Honda CRV and Fit have the same or similar requirments when preparing to tow. They just did not have the problem with too much trans fluid.

What am I missing?

Does the Fusion require an external pump or not?

My 2010 Escape XLT has the F6 MID transmission and it comes with the pump. I checked on that before we bought it as I didn't want the other transmission.

IF you have a 2010 Fusion then no, Ford just wants you to follow the instructions in the manual. And the manual in ours comes with the updated instructions. The manual was published in September 09.

We get our mounting brackets put on in two weeks. But probably won't tow until next spring. Haven't bought the aux brake yet. Dealer gave me a pretty high price on it but a decent price on mounting brackets, installation and wiring. So I am going to shop around for a better price/deal on the brake.

Because they are not selling me the brake, I have to sign their waiver of liablility regarding the fact that Ohio requires supplemental braking on towed vehicles (> 2,000#) and I'm not buying one from them.

Marc while you are shopping for the supplemental brake system check ebay. I got a new Even Brake with mfr's warranty at a good price.
