I wanted to provide everyone with an update. I recieved a call from the Big Country's dealer representative with an apology. Without going into details, there was a mis-communication separately between Heartland - Browns RV and Heartland - Holiday on Wheels. Unfortunatly I was caught in the middle of their relationship issues. I got conformation that I DO have an order in the system with Holiday on Wheels as the selling dealer and they will still "ALLOW" Holiday to sell it to me if I choose to move forward. At this hour, I don't think I want to give my hard earned money to Heartland. They should have never allowed me to be used as a pawn by one of thier new dealers. All parties realize thier mistake, apology accepted but at this point no one gets the sale. I am going to sleep on it, but I am pretty sure I know what my final decision will be.

I would walk away from all parties involved in this matter. Unless you are just feeling the Heartland fever, I would seek other brands, and dealers. If something is that hard to get worked out, just walk, don't answer their phone calls, be polite and just walk. Good luck

By the way schrecker96 - I feel your pain and hope things look brighter in the morning. Its discouraging - but remember - as soon as you write the check, the dealer typically forgets your name, and when the warranty runs out, they typically want a divorce, so think ahead to the coach you think you will like in the long term and try to look past the squabbles with the Dealers - Even the squabbles here - nothing intented to distract your thread from the issue -

Mile high - thank you. You are exactly right. I just fomally informed Heartland that I will not move forward with this transaction. There are many other good RVs out there and some bad ones. As well as good dealers and bad. So now I find myself back in the market for a fifth wheel......

Thank you for all of your comments and support, this forum has helped me confirm some of the things that had run through my head as this was happening.

I honestly don't think Holiday is violating a regional dealer agreement. I called them for a price on this unit, told them where I lived and it was no problem. Browns is 63 miles south east of me and Holiday is 78 miles due south. They are 63 miles apart, but Browns is located in a very small town.

I did tell Browns that I am not doing business with them because I feel I should have been informed by my selling dealer that there was an issue. I believe my selling dealer was trying to find a solution before alarming me to the situation at hand.

Holiday on Wheels is waiting on an answer from Heartland and is willing to refund my deposit. More than likely that will happen tomorrow.

What I do not get is Heartland lists Browns and Holiday on Wheels as authorized Big Country dealers on thier website.

Plus I am in this mess because we lost our Sprinter to a fire 3 weeks ago. I do not need this pissing match on top of that! My insurance companies behaved a hell of alot better than these guys!

My take on the matter would be to try and call the head of Heartland and explain exactly why you will not now, or ever, purchase one of their rigs, no matter how much you like it. You are the customer and you have the right to buy from whomever gives you the best price. Frankly, the dealers ought to be glad you're buying "local" and not from some dealer halfway across the U.S., no matter which dealer gets the business.

Last week Holiday on Wheels was an authorized dealer and mysteriously yesterday they are no longer one.

My bet is that they were already on the way out and most probably knew it when they took your deposit.

IMO - the "head of Heartland" could care less.
Don't waste any more of your time with Heartland - or the dealers.

DIY guy said it all back on the first page of this thread.
You arrived at same in your post above "laknox"'s. (BTW - good plan!)

Time to close the book and move on.

Yes, this is the end of my story. No more emails or phone calls to any of them.

We hit the pavement looking again. Who knows where we will land, but I have another experience to learn from.

All parties involved know who did or did not act in good faith. I do not hold it against Heartland 100%, but it makes them look bad when their "resellers" behave in this manner. Heartland addressed the issue with all parties, including me individually, for that I am thankful.

Unfortunatley in business "perception is reality"..........

schrecker96,

I think you are handling this quite professionally and rationally. What Heartland finally relized is they cannot legally restrict who their dealers sell to. It is unfortunate that Heartland allowed their dealer network to believe that they had protected territories. They legally do not. I think you are making a very good decision to find a DIFFERENT MANUFACTURER AND DEALER TO WORK WITH. I suspect that Heartland is having some very intense meetings at headquarters over this issue and hopefully their new dealership policies will show some new found maturity over this issue. I wish you good luck in your pursuit of a different unit and hopefully you will have a better experience.
