OK, I'm new to RVing. Just bought my 1st 5th wheel and pickup and my 1st trip is just after Christmas. I have been reading the posts on these boards to learn, and one caught my eye about changing a flat. The responses were eye opening to say the least and one that you need certainly need to be aware of. But my question is even dumber, how the heck do you know if you get a flat on a 2 axled 5th wheel?

in general you should be able to see the side of the tires going down the road, if anything looks weird, pull over and check. EVERY stop you check the tires arn't flat, watch for smoke. Your best bet is some form of tpms..

You will know. Christopherglenn is correct. Also change the tires every six years and keep the best one as an emergency spare. Age is the big problem. Have fun and enjoy

You may want to consider a TPMS. Check out the link below. There are other system out there also. Do a search for TPMS.

When we had our flat in our old fifth wheel, I saw chunks of tire flying in my side mirrors and could feel the trailer pull slight to the right instead of tracking true. Luckily no serious damage, however, I did go and purchase a TPMS after that.

Every time I stop I at least hit the tires and inspect. Sound should be similar. Important if you have DRW check inside wheel. Check air each morning on a travel day. We usually don't travel more than 4 hours before my legs need to stretch.
The failure I had another driver had to let me know I was throwing rubber. It is pretty hard to spot while driving unless it is smoking or the belt is tearing up the RV. Good Luck and enjoy your new rig.

I have had more than my share of blowouts over the many years that I have towed RVs and only once or twice did I know. All the other times someone would pull
next to me and point toward the rear. After all the drive by shootings in Calif
I was paranoid when someone pulled next to me and just looked at me, finally pointed toward the rear. It is hard to see the tires on my 34 ft TT as I really have to st reach my neck and I have the towing mirrors on my Ford Lariat Super Cab.

That would never make it out of my driveway, if it did I am sure road kill would claim it. Is that really a camera? And is that really how it is mounted?

We had a flat tire in our initial outing - and - NO, we did not know. It was only because some nice folks drove past and kept pointing. We got off at the next exit (which luckily had a truck stop). The blown tire also took out the brakes.

We use a tire monitoring system both for our truck and 5th wheel. We also are a member of Coach-net. Should you have a flat tire, or any problem, they will come to change the tire, tow you, whatever. We have spoken with many folks who experientially relate that Coach-Net is the fastest response.

No matter what road service you take, please do join one and please consider getting tire monitors. Well worth the money.

Also, be sure to stop and check the lug nuts to make sure they are tight enough.
