We are getting ready to send documents to Mexico City to try to cancel our Mexican Vehicle Import Permit. We sold our RV that had the 10 year permit on it and bought a new one. So we were in a huge mess and couldn't go to the mainland this year. We have been in contact with Mexico City and have a name and address to send the information to. We tried to contact Mike who has a name of Moishe about some documents to cancel the permit but did not hear back. Mexico City says we do not have to have a form so we are going to trust that. Question: has anyone out there recently canceled a vehicle import permit successfully? We are sending forms tomorrow. We can just hope this will all work out. Thanks for your help.

This is Mike,
Actually I did respond. You contacted me via my website on 11/13 and I responded on 11/14 to the yahoo address on your msg. Below is my response.

You came to the right place. I have the form (in English and Spanish).

Attached are two documents. The pdf is the form in English and Spanish, and the doc is the instructions. If you want to use the form, you can send either one.

Actually, qtla9111 (the one that did most of the legwork on this) was told that the form is no longer in print and you don’t even have to use it. You can just write out why you want to cancel your TIP and why you don’t have the hologram or paperwork. Attach all the supporting documentation and send it to the indicated address. The whole thing can be in English as they have people in the office that are English speakers and writers. But even if you don’t use the form, it’s handy because it shows you what they want.

Historically, it’s been taking about 2-4 months to get your Importacion Temporal De Rodante Certificado De Retorno (TIP Cancellation Receipt) back.

Hope this helps.

PS, I don't think I'd trust any of the on-line translators for writing the letter. Just stick to English if you don't have a Spanish writer available. Otherwise you might find out that you're asking them to annul your marriage or some other weird thing.

You might want to check your spam folder.

If you still need the instructions, let me know and I'll send them to you again.

Oh, and I'm Turtle-Toad, Moisheh is also a very good source of information and also did some legwork on this, but I don't think he's been sending out this info.

Here's a tangential question:

I replaced my windshield and removed my permit with a razor blade. Now what do I do? Just tape it back onto the new windshield?

Yes John that will likely work fine.I'm pretty sure, You can request a replacement decal , but I believe that it might Cost as much as the Normal New Permit fee anyway.

I have the Hologram off My Old Motorhome which I will be Hand delivering to the Km 21 Office ! I lost the paperwork some time ago, however I do have a Color Photo Copy !

They issued A New Permit for Our New Motorhome On Line with No problem even without returning the Old One!

It helps that My Passport Number on the Original 10 year Permit issued in 2006 Has Expired and The New One has a different Number!

Thanks so much for the information, Mike. I didn't receive the email in Spam either so glad you checked the forum. We now have to locate our former Mexican insurance policy according to the email I received. Will have to check back with Mexican authorities again or with MexPro. Thanks for your help. Meanwhile we are going to Baja for the winter and we love that area.

Pacific John:

I would tape it onto the windshield and just stop at km21 and tell them it fell off!! I do not put the sticker onto the windshield. Just get a piece of plexiglass and mount the hologram to the plastic. Then use 4 dabs of silicone to hold it to the windshield. Makes it real easy to remove in case you break a windshield.

Eddie, when did you send in your vehicle import paperwork? Did you just send the letter, hologram, bills of sales, ID, permit paperwork? We were told 3 to 6 months. We are hoping that long. You are the first we have heard of that has actually sent the originals and all in. Keep us posted. Marlin and Kay

I did last year using the info that Turtle, Moisheh and QTLA provided. Took about 3 months but, apparently, the info on the computer happened quicker because we had no trouble crossing. My back up plan was to import the MH on DW's name.

I sent the info again, as you requested. Hope it arrives this time.

Also, why do you need your old Mexican insurance? It's not on the list of documents that need to be submitted.

Plus there is no requirement to have insurance to get a TIP (although some Banjericto offices have wall signs that says you do, I've never been asked and don't know of anyone else that has either).
