Forget tires unless you actually need them.
This is my standard response but I've been married a long time
If tires would help, then I guess a whole new outfit would really make her smile. Good luck.

We're going to do Disney next summer. The tires on my Expedition were getting light so I did replace them with Michelin LTX MS2 (10 ply). Very nice tires and they carry a good load too.
I did sign up for the Good Sams club breakdown service.
That's about it. You're Expedition should do just fine for such a trip.

I think she's worried about breaking down. I know when she was little her dad would buy retreads and on one trip he ran out of spare tires. I actually do need new tires. The treads are good since we don't drive very far but the sides of the tires show some slight cracking. So I guess the trailer is definitely going to get new tires. Someboday mentioned road service, but I haven't heard too many good things abour Good Sam's Emergency Road Service but I do have AAA. Any other suggestions I can look into?
Thanks for all the great advice!!

6 year old tires on the Aljo? You should get new tires before you hit the desert anyway!
As for the truck. $500 buys a lot of tranquility on the road. Get the road hazard warranty.

You may not have heard good things about Good Sam ERS, but we've had excellent service from them and would not be without it.

We've taken several long trips, but had a tire blow out 45 minutes from home. After changing a tire on the PA turnpike in Philadelphia at rush hour, we got 4 new tires and now carry 2 spares. I'd love to have a tire pressure monitoring system We also don't drive over 60 mph.

put the new tires on and go over all the safety issues that you can think of that will arise. and there will be somethings that happen that you just cant plan for. we are rving for the winter and every 2 weeks i am a 'widow' and thats when things go wrong. i have had some tears and i rely on friends and family to get me through those tough days. if i can do it, anyone can do it. good luck and i hope it works out because the good experiences far outweight the bad.

Ummm, tell her you'll put new tires on both vehicles, maybe?
Then only drive 150 miles per day....will make for a leisurely vacation....

Just take 3 days to get there and overnite at Walmarts. As soon as she finds out Walmart is in your front yard, problem solved. Well solved till you get the credit card bill.

Put some new tires on the trailer for certain. Perhaps new tires on the Ford depending on their condition & age.
Also, service the wheel bearings & adjust the trailer brakes.
Then go for it!
If she's still nervous, then have her follow the link to our Arctic Trip and ask my wife how much she wants to go back!
