uptime wrote: A spare tire is carried not because you expect to use it but just in case you have to use it. In that case, you have no spare tire if you carry only one spare. I recently took a trip from Virginia to Fairbanks AK. The roads there can be really tough on tires and tire stores are not likely to be within 100 - 200 miles. If you do need a replacement, it will cost you an arm & a leg. For my trip, I carried a second spare for the TV as well as for the TT. If I were traveling in the lower 48, I wouldn't worry about a second spare for either one. Of course, a second spare should be mounted on a wheel.

Our son carries a mounted spare *and* an unmounted spare. The unmounted one doesn't weigh as much and it can be mounted on the rim that had the flat. Sometimes (a lot of times) it is hard to find a trailer tire in your size when you need it, but you can usually find someone who can mount a tire you already have.

I carry 2 if I go on a trip over 400 miles. 3 years ago there was a very happy camper. He had no spare and I sold him my extra one. I made 30 bucks and he went on his way.
