We are recently retired. We've been staying in Forest Service, National & State parks. We've enjoyed the great outdoors and this is my DH's "cup of tea", but I'd like alittle more inter action with other campers. Other than the Hi's and waves as fellow campers pass by we've only encountered a couple people who drop in and chat. SO are there any affordable campgrounds that also offer activities along with the great outdoors?

Why not consider volunteering with State or Federal facilities? Free campsite, lots of opportunities to make friends with Rangers or fellow workampers. www.volunteer.gov/gov

you might consider joining an rv "club" if you can find one to suit you.
you don't have to take part in all the activities or limit yourself to them, either.

It really depends on how long you want to stay. Most parks are cheaper, not as cheap as SP, by the month or season. Just check the area you want to be and stay a night and you will find what you are looking for.

Lots of them - you've just been thinking in terms of vacation instead of fulltiming. It would be helpful if you would indicate where you want to spend the winter. Remember, the V in RV stands for vehicle, so pick a warm area and take a look around at what is available. If you have not already done so, I would recommend that you go over to the Escapees forum that has loads of good information for fulltimers, especially those just getting started.

Most fulltimers, especially in the winter, will gravitate towards parks with longer stays. We use membership parks for a good part of the year in order to save money, as well as other parks. National, state, and local parks are often difficult to get into in the summer since people start making reservations in January for the summer and in January we don't know where we will be in the summer - sometimes we don't even know where we will be in February!

Folks in our state parks here in the Southeast are mighty friendly. Try them. And if you're in Louisiana state parks, you get a 50% discount with the Golden "whatever it's now called" pass that's for us older folks.

We find much the same thing in the summer. People are moving fairly frequently, and even if you do "hit it off" with a couple, usually their route isnt the same as ours. So it ends up being a short friendship, but one that wont likely be renewed.
One helpful tip, is to be more proactive, invite a likely couple for a BBQ or some other activity that will extend their "visit" to your site longer than just a few minutes.
We travel alot in the summer, and usually have certain sights or plans for a given area, so we try to stay busy by preplanning. In the winter, we stay put, have a nice group of friends from previous years, and we all look forward to renewing those friendships each year. We find we are always ready to get back on the road in the spring, and always ready to stay put for the summer.
The previous suggestions to join a camping/rv club, are worth considering as well.

You might like to look into other options also like:

Escapees Birds of a Feather Groups. If you click on this link it will take you there. Left hand column of that page will have more information. Been toying around with joining the Habitat for Humanity group. The couple of times I've contacted them they were just super. Way above what I was expecting.

Also volunteering at federal parks (not so much for the cost savings, but for the integration into a community) might be a nice option also.
