I'm looking at a 2005 37' Pace Arrow with 3 slide outs with the Work Horse chase and would like to get an idea of the maximum tow rating. It has the chevy vortec engine.
I have a 1/2 ton ram pu with a reg cab, 4x4. I think it weighs around 5500 lbs. It's towable, but I don't know what the gcwr is for the workhorse chase.

The specs are available here: http://www.fleetwoodrv.com/library/archive.asp (2005 PA is http://fleetwoodrv.com/frvlibrary/docs/2005/2005_pa_f.pdf)

It depends if you have the W22 or W24 chassis; the former is 5000/500 and the latter is 6000/600.

I had a Pace Arrow Vision with the Ford V10, 37ft. It was a really nice motorhome, but I bet you will have an issue towing 5K pounds. Based on the GVWR and the actual weight of the MH with people and gear, I felt comfortable towing my Mercury Tracer wagon, just under 2K. I believe at that time I figured I was within a couple of pounds from max. It did handle well, even over the mountains in Southern California.
Good luck, and Happy Trails.

My current towed is a 4700# Ford Ranger and it is all my 2005 37C with the 8.1 can handle. You DEFINITELY feel the drag when it is conected. I am running a stock engine with only a K&N air filter and flowmaster mufflers for aftermarket accessories. I think it will tow this weight but don't plan on cruising around at 65 or 70 like you can without the towed.

I'll find out in a couple of months, as we are heading for Fairbanks this summer with the towed! (I may be looking fo a VW bug when I get home!!)

It's posted somewhere inside your coach, but first you'll have to weigh your rig fully loaded, including people allowances. If you're hauling the kitchen sink and laundry tubs from home as well, considering full fresh water tank, fuel tank, gray tank and black tank, then a 5500 lb toad will probably put you over like most of them out there on the road.

If it is a W20 or W22 the GCWR is 26,000 pounds, however the hitch is probably only rated for 5,000 pounds.
A W24 has a GCWR of 30,000 pounds.

I googled "Workhorse specifications" and found this:

PDF TABLE OF CONTENTS - Workhorse
workhorse com/Portals/0/products/.../Chassis_Guide_2006.pdf
File Format: PDF/Adobe Acrobat - View as HTML
2006-1999 Workhorse Recreational Vehicle Chassis (Specifications and Ratings). 14. RV Weights and Loading (About RV Weights by C. Jay Haynor). 18 ..."

For some reason I can't make a clicky of the site address.

As has been stated on this forum many times, the actual tow capacity for any vehicle is its GCWR, minus its weight when ready to tow, or the capacity of the hitch itself, which ever is less.

kalynzoo,

While I agree the Mercury Tracer Wagon 5 speed is an excellent tow car (we towed an Escort SW many miles)is is NOT under 2,000 pounds.

This from the FMCA Towing Guide: When equipped with a manual transmission, the Ford Escort/Mercury Tracer (2,545 pounds).
