What cars will tow behind a class c motorhome?

I have a 2007 nissan murano and I don't think that will tow behind a motorhome? If there is no way to tow our murano we want to buy a old used car that can tow flat behind it. we are planning on buying a class c motorhome and selling it in a year after living full time in it. So we don't want to buy a nice new car that can be towed just because. I'd rather buy an older used smaller car. What cars are good for that.

I would find what the MH can tow first. Many Cs will have lower tow ratings than an A. 3500# may be the liit on quite a few and that will really limit your choice of towable cars.

Manual transmission Subarus prior to 2016 can be towed 4 wheels down. Not sure about the 2016 model.

I have been flat towing a GMC Terrain for almost 6 years with no problems. GMC even has a section in the owners manual about using as a toad.

At first we towed a Camry on a dolly, but that was a royal PITA, especially if you got caught in a parking lot with no exit.
Now we flat tow a 5 speed 2003 Subaru Outback which hooks up in seconds & can go darn near anywhere off road :-o))

We tow a 2012 ford focus and has worked great over 38K miles so far. Not sure about other years, but the 2012 is towable. As mentioned earlier, do your research, and remember the last thing to check is the owner's manual.

Find out what wt you can tow. Our 2008 Saturn View tows but is a little heavy 4000 lb for our E350 with a 5000 lb hitch. We used to tow a Cavalier back before we had a diesel. Look in the RV ads, there you can find
vehicles already set up to tow. we plan to sell our Vue next year and will advertise on the RV sites. Good Luck

A tow dolly adds about 500 lbs to the weight of the vehicle. A flat bed trailer adds 1000 to 1500 lbs. Take that into consideration when figuring tow capacity of your combination.

A whole bunch of older GM small and mid-size cars 1995-2010 using the light-duty 4T40E and 4T45E automatic transmission. Applications included Chevy Cavalier, Cobalt, HHR and Malibu, Pontiac Sunfire, G6 and GrandAm, Olds Alero and Cutlass, Saturn L-series, Vue and greenline Ion.

Since 2008, probably a lot of GM cars using the 6T30/35/40E: Cruze, Malibu, Equinox, Terrain, Regal, Aveo, Sonic, Encore.

Not all models in these model lines will have these transmissions, as heavier or more powerful front drive GM vehicles may have medium-duty or heavy-duty automatics from different transmission families. So when looking at models over 4000-4500 pounds GVWR, or even lighter ones with high-performance engines, be careful about identifying the transmission used, and check the owner's manual.

Even earlier, Saturn S models with the Saturn-made automatic are towable.

A lot of recent Ford compact and mid-size cars and SUVs are towable, but I've not sought out specific models. Ford is using a variant (6F35) of GM's 6T40E transmission family, but they've also used a number of other 6-speed automatics from Mazda, Aisin, ZF and others of their own design that don't all share towability with the 6F35.

Most front wheel drive compacts with manual transmissions are towable with some restrictions.

We switched from a 2003 Sport Trac 4x4 automatic with over 265,000 miles driven and towed (timing chains going out $3000-$7000 repair or replace engine) to a AWD 2014 Ford Flex SEL. It is by far the easiest vehicle we have ever had to set up for towing (had someone else do the base plate and wiring for a change) and procedure to be followed for free wheeling. Start run for a few minutes, then the transmission to Neutral and turn the key back as far as it will go, that's it.

Our Daihatsu Rocky works perfectly. Not too easy to find them, though.

Honda CRV before 2014

2014 is the last year the CRV can be towed. In 2015 Honda introduced the CV Transmission, so no more flat towing.

Speaking generally:

Most, maybe all, AWD vehicles can't be flat towed.

Most, maybe all, four wheel drive vehicles with a transfer case that can be put in neutral can be flat towed.

Any front wheel drive vehicle can be towed using a dolly (assuming it physically fits on the dolly).

Most, nearly all, two wheel drive vehicles with manual transmissions can be flat towed. If you don't mind driving a stick shift, this opens up a good many possibilities.

Most if not all two wheel drive vehicles with a CVT cannot be flat towed.

Some two wheel drive vehicles with automatic transmissions can be flat towed, but the majority cannot, at least without some modifications to the transmission.

Any vehicle can be flat towed if the drive shaft(s) are disconnected.

Note that, for weight ratings, it's mainly the GCWR (and not the GVWR or GAWRs) of the motorhome you need to be concerned with for either flat towing or towing with a dolly in as much as neither one has very much tongue weight to support. Obviously you also need to pay attention to the hitch ratings.
