water heater heat exchange hose replacement

I spent Feb & 22 days of March in FLA. One of the hoses running from the radiator under the van & into the water heater compartment burst draining all the coolant. The little towns mechanic did a bypass & replaced the coolant, but that eliminated the water heater heat exchanger.

Upon my return to Michigan I bought 50' or the proper heater hose (better than standard). It took 10 hours over 2 days to remove the old hoses and run the new ones. Half of that time was on my back under the van, which was up on blocks. Not fun. But it works and doesn't leak. RV shops estimated over a $500 repair cost.

I'm sure the rv shop could have done it in 3-4 hours having a hoist and more tools, but at $120 -$200/hour depending upon the shop it would have been $500 or more.
