Please be aware that the Memphis in May festival and other events will have Riverside Drive (downtown along the river) partially or fully closed until August 1. Suggest using I-240 in Memphis after crossing either the I-40 or I-55 bridges to/from Arkansas. Agree with above suggestions on Tom Sawyer (West Memphis, Ark) or Tunica (Miss) for camping.

Tom Sawyer is about the closest I can think of. It's a mile or two up I55.
We were pleased. It was KOA when we last stopped and had a car to rent if you didn't want to unhook.
There is a train track behind the park but don't remember much if any traffic on it.
Like others say do not stay in the Truck Stops there.
We did fuel and eat at one Truck Stop Petrol or something. The smoked pork chops were near two inches thick and like ham. No way you could eat two.
The truck traffic, at the several stops, is heavy as is the night traffic in drugs and ladies.
You can go south on I55 if it suits your destination, with less traffic. that was some time ago though.

All new RV park (Sam's) after the last flood. Hollywood Casino's RV park was REALLY nice before the flood, and cheap also.

Tunica is a good place to lay over for a couple (or more) days before heading down the road. Makes a good base camp to see Graceland from, clean the rig, and rest up. Tunica Casino row is an easy access from I69 off of I55. If I was heading south out of Memphis, this would be our preferred layover.

I guess the last flooding was done on purpose by the COE's to prevent more damage downstream. Because of that, I don't know if Tunica will ever go back to it's glory days given the COE's power to take it out.

The park is imo just ok. If it wasn't for Graceland being directly across the street and the tourist thing next door it would be out of business. Beale street is a dump with low life's all over the place and filthy...

^^x2^^

Graceland is worth the effort and cost to see though.

Tunica is going down hill also from it's hay days. The second flood really took the life out of the place.

we are from Memphis, and make frequent weekend trips to Tom Sawyer RV Park. We have never had an issue there. It is away from the truck traffic, quiet, and the river is wonderful.
it is about 2 1/2 miles from the interstate, but well marked. I would suggest, calling ahead, they stay full. It is a Good Sam Park

X10!
I love that CG and always stay at when running north to south.

Do NOT stay anywhere in the Memphis or West Memphis area if you are not from that area, 'many' parts are not safe.

My son is a truck driver and has told us NOT to stay at any truck stops in the Memphis area.

Forest City Walmart a few miles west of Memphis, easy off/on of I-40, park along the outside edge of parking lot. Also had best price in the area for diesel.

The OP needs to tell us is he going east, west on I-40? There are several good places but we need more info.

If he is swinging south in I-240, there is a nice park just over the TN boarder in MS. If they want a good safe East Memphis place just off I-40/I-240, the Agri-Center at Walnut Grove and Germantown Parkway is a nice stop.

After staying in Nashville for awhile and hitting Braodway strip every night and then driving a couple hundred miles to Memphis and staying at Graceland RV park now that was a culture shock.
The park is imo just ok. If it wasn't for Graceland being directly across the street and the tourist thing next door it would be out of business. Beale street is a dump with low life's all over the place and filthy.
Went down the street from the rv park to pick up some supplies at I think was a Walgreens two young men standing at the exit with street clothes with guns on their hip.
I guess they were security but who knows. This is why my wife and I both carry firearms werever we go legal or not.
We were suppose to stay four nights but stayed two and got the hell out of there.
Did a long day 700 mile drive to Berlin Ohio Amish country WOW what a differance.

We have stayed at the Graceland RV park and it is very nice, very safe and very quite (not sure where all the negative comments are coming from). The poster above mentions Tom Sawyer and being from Memphis I would also consider that as a viable stop. Memphis is NOT a bad place to stop or a place you should avoid and it's not something you need to "tip toe". There are very few places in this great Country of ours that is not loaded down with heavy big truck traffic (Atlanta is MUCH worse) but these guys are the reason you can stop by Wal-Mart and get what you need. Trucks are not the enemy. For the most part, those stupid 4 wheelers are the ones that will cause issues with your drive.
Think back.....How many of the accidents you have passed in the last year involved a big rig and how many of them involved 4 wheeler's? Enjoy your travels and stay at one of the parks mentioned. If you want to visit Graceland, use my selection!
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?
