F150 from 2500

Thanks to everyone who gave insight into the F150. I am getting the F150 XLT with the 3.5 Ecoboost 10 speed Super Crew and longer wheel base. I took the advice of others and did get the max tow package and the max payload package as well for our 30' 6400 pound dry weight Heritage Glen Lite. I'm getting out of the 2500 which the wife never liked to drive and hated getting lousy gas mileage. This F150 has a lot more options and comforts than what we have now and the payment only increased a few dollars. Thanks for the input.

Yes mine has both. In 2014, Max trailer Tow Package $565, and Heavy Duty Payload Package w/ 17" 7 lug aluminum wheels $1,695.

The HD pkg was very hard to find also. My local Ashland, VA dealer finally found 4 up in PA at 3 different dealers. He did what ever dealers do to make trades between themselves.

The truck came with LT245/75R17E All-Terrain tires, 3.73 Ratio Limited Slip Axle, 8200# GVWR pkg and almost as important, a 36 gal fuel tank.

It also came with the 3.5L Ecoboost engine.

Is that both max payload and max trailer packages?

I looked for one set up like that but the dealer said there were none in the region he could trade with.

I bought a 2015 GMC Sierra with their max trailer setup and my payload is 2015. The extra 200 lbs would have been nice. I tow 8,200 loaded and it works well.

May get beat up for this but we're towing a 37' Coachman Catalina with my 2015 EB F150 Platinum. Switched to e-rated tires. 62mph cruise and it's fine. Husky Centerline hitch system. 9-10 mpg and for what it's worth wind today in Southern MI while towning was 15-20 mpg gusts. No issues.

It does come with one drawback. Don't know about the newer aluminum bodies F150's, but in 2014, the last year of steel bodied F150's, the HD package was only available in the longest wheel base available. For a standard cab and Super Cab, that meant an 8 ft box. For a Super Crew, it meant a 6.5 ft box.

I have the Super Cab. My Virginia dealer had to go all the way to PA to find any HD packaged F150's, and the were all Supercabs.
There were no Supercrews which I would have preferred. The result is I have the longest wheel base for any F150 in 2014, 163". Has the turning radius of an aircraft carrier. But it tows nicely though, which is why I got it.

Towing with a half ton is limited by the max cargo capacity which is unique for each vehicle. It is often posted on the door jamb.

My F-150 with a 1411 lb. max cargo is fine with my 700 lb. tongue weight and my DW, dog and camp gear.

I have been told that some F-150s have a max cargo as high as 1900 lbs. while the lowest figure I have heard of is 1200 lbs.

So, I suppose a large TT is possible. Also, some folks do not mind overloading their TV; especially pick-ups. They just accept the increased wear and tear.

Nice, that's a lot of payload for a half ton truck. That's one of the highest I've seen

We stayed 6 days in a state campground last week. While riding our bikes around the campground, I was surprised how many half ton pickups were parked with 30'~ travel trailers. We tow our 32.5' TT with our F250 with no sway control. Would the F150 properly equipped really be that much different? It's been a long time since we towed our 21' Aljo with our '94 F150. Also with no sway control.

Congratulations on your F-150.

My 2011 F-150 4x4 is a perfect match to my 25 ft. Dutchmen. Because of all the bells and whistles that came on it, my max cargo is 1411 lbs. Across the scales my TT is 6400 lbs. when loaded for the road. It is a pleasure to pull.

We have towed 30,000 miles in the last three years in the Rockies, the AZ desert, the cross winds in OK and TX down to the flatland of FL.

While it is 10 mph towing, when unhitched and sightseeing it is easily 18 mpg.

I hope you enjoy yours as much as we have enjoyed ours.

I have a 2015 Lariat EB with tow package and love it so far. The thing is that I only tow when going camping and the rest of the time i commute to and from work 16 klm each way. For my needs it is the right truck. I towed yesterday in Alberta in a stiff wind and could definitely feel it but I took my time and drove accordingly......which anyone would in a good 5o klm/hr crosswind. I took my trailer in to get some free warranty work done on the air conditioner, made it there and back safely. Its not what you drive....its how you drive.
