RE: Highway 50 closure by Gunnison

If you have an adequate tow vehicle Monarch pass should not be a problem. It is certainly a long steep pull but it is a very good road with a restaurant at the summit. If you take your time should not be problem. You will be pulling up the steepest side. There is also a gondla at the top of the pass that takes you to the peak of the mountain. With the schedule given above you could make the trip on a weekend with no delays.

RE: Can't find my water pump

I agree the post is a little confusing. Just remember the pump has to fill up the water heater before you will have much pressure to the faucets. the pump is usually close to the back of the water heater.

RE: Fiber Optic

I have fiber to the house. Verizon ran a cat5 wire to my router. The tvs are run off of the same coax as they always have been. The smart TV's and computers and cell phones run wireless off of the router. You should not have to run the cat 5 unless you want it on the opposite end of the house from where the service company's equipment is mounted. Then you might have to provide the wiring. Some companies use fiber to the curb and I am not sure what they run from the street to the house. Either way you will love the quality of the product.

RE: Air Flow Deflectors

I had one of those a few years ago and the only thing it did for sure was to reduce the bug spatter on front of the RV. If it saved any fuel or reduced the strain on the truck I couldn't tell it.

RE: Slide out issue

Are you sure there is not a slide bar on top of the slide? Some slides use a slide lock which is just an expandable bar on top of the slide to keep them from creeping out. Just a thought. Forget the slide lock if it is moving 6 or 7 inches. Sounds like you need to lube all of your moving parts on the slide mech.

RE: RV At Dealer for 90 Days Now for An Awning Replacement!!!!!

If the stealer has ordered the new awning you will probably be on the hook for some charges. Unfortunately having an appointment with one of these jokers only means they will make someone available to accept your rig and they have a place to park it, nothing more. I asked my stealer on warranty work to order the parts and I would bring it in when they arrived and they had time to do the work. They refused to order the parts unless the rig was on the lot. This is a one way street right now. I will use a mobile tech if I need something I can't do myself. Good luck.

RE: Hehr Window Repair

Might check with a local glass company. Some of them are capable of fixing RV windows.

RE: Exterior/Interior coatings on new travel trailers

In 2005 I paid for the exterior coating on my new all white RV. After a few years it had turned darker. I had to hand rub the whole RV with simple green to remove it. I would not recommend the coatings.

RE: Chevy Shake

Not sure if it is the same issue but I had a 2009 GMC dmax dually and it had a vibration when starting off. There was a GM service bulletin on this issue that was caused by the driveshaft angle. I took mine to the dealer and they fixed it no problems afterward traded it in in 2014.

RE: Slide outs in cold weather

If you use your furnace and you have floor ducts you will need to leave the slides out if the slides cover the vents.

RE: Bathroom heater vent not blowing

I would suspect it has come loose or is kinked in the basement where it comes off of the distribution box. The bathroom is usually on a individual duct and if yours was built like mine was it probably needs some attention with some duct tape to close up all of the leaks. Good luck

RE: Superglide Hitch / Capture Plate Question

Well you have had two people say no so I would suggest you listen to them but the capture plate from your son's rig should fit if it is not bolted down. Good luck I would not want my advice to cause a problem. You could chain the slider to the front of the mount where it would not be able to move. That would also be a option.

RE: Superglide Hitch / Capture Plate Question

Unless they have changed the design in the last 10 years I don't think it would be a problem. Without a capture plate it will not slide back so you would have to be very careful if backing at a sharp angle. On the newer models the plate is very easy to remove and replace so if one is handy just use it, if not just be careful backing.

RE: Cannot open grey or black tank

If the valves are cable operated I don't know of any way without exposing the valves. If they are just a straight rod, if you can get a pair of channel locks around the rod and turn it back and forth as someone pulls on the handle it might open. Depends if it is stuck at the valve or there is some corrosion on the rod and handle. Good luck, wish we could help more.

RE: splicing aluminum to copper elec wire

Are you sure it's aluminum? That would be highly unusual. It's probably tin plated copper. Thanks everyone for your input. I am kind of anal when it come to stuff like this. I looked at the wire closely and it sure looks like aluminum but on the wire I found AWM style 3321 which is tin plated copper so I don't have the problem I thought I had. The oven is at my home and it is a built in oven. There is a very heavy three conductor wire sticking out of the wall and that is how the old oven has been hooked up for 35 years so I guess going back the same way will be OK now that I know it is not aluminum. Thanks everyone for taking the time to respond. There is a wealth of knowledge available on the site and you are willing to help. This is why I asked the question here. The oven came wit an armored pigtail with 12 ga wire and it was not intended to be changed. Thanks again

splicing aluminum to copper elec wire

I just bought a new oven and it came with aluminum wire and I have to splice it to copper. Do I need to do something different for this connection? I know aluminum and copper doesn't play well together in some instances. Thanks in advance for the you help.

RE: Light Problem

Not trying to be a wise guy but did you check the bulbs. When I got my RV both bulbs were burned out.

RE: Changing refrigerator cooling unit...New or Refurbished??

You need to check into the Amish built cooling units. The quality of these units are supposed to be superior to any OEM unit. If you continue on the route you are going I would say to use the new unit rather than the rebuilt one since your rig is only 5 years old, It will probably be in service many more years, and I just don't trust most rebuilt products.

RE: RV sitting for two to three weeks in 10 degree weather

If your tanks are empty you only need to put in a quart or less in each tank. This is in case a small amount of water is left in the tanks, it settles against the dump valves if it is level and this will keep it from freezing and damaging the valves. You also need to fill the P traps with antifreeze, maybe a pint in each one. Enjoy the stay.
