RE: AT&T anounces truly unlimited wireless data plan

I got all excited until I clicked on the link and learned that hotspot data is limited to 40gb per month. Per the article, unlimited hotspot data is a pipe dream. Hotspot is unlimited on Verizon Visible 4G/5G. Though only one device can be connected at a time, and limited to 5Mbps down/up speeds. Haven't noticed any issues at this speed with remote work, or with MS Teams and Zoom meetings using hotspot. Stream HD movies on Netflix, HBO Max, Amazon Prime. Though you can also cast movies to smart TV at full speed, mine running 140Mbps(4G) on my iPhone.

RE: Windows 11 compatibility Check up for your PC or laptop

Win 11 is basically a revenue enhancement for Microsoft. It's a free update for WIN 10 users. Guess they're making tons of money from that?

RE: Windows 11 compatibility Check up for your PC or laptop

Yeah, maybe. But I believe a lot of the successful ransomware attacks have been on Windows 10 machines ... That's not quite the complete story. Those recent ransomware attacks were the result of social engineering malware, where the end user allowed the malware to run by falling for phishing emails. Good luck running Window XP/7 on the internet, as hackers only need to exploit an unpatched vulnerability and install malware without you knowing it. Even kill/disable any security software you have running.

RE: How to mitigate Print Spooler PrintNightmare in Windows 10

Here is one of his links on how to also disable the MS print spooler service. WARNING If you cannot follow the steps in the guide then do not try this. You do not need to mitigate this yourself if you receive monthly Windows 10 updates. Microsoft pushed out the update (KB5004945) that patches this issue on July 6, 2021. Check your WIN10 update history. "Updates a remote code execution exploit in the Windows Print Spooler service, known as “PrintNightmare”, as documented in CVE-2021-34527." A system reboot may be necessary if prompted.

RE: AT&T anounces truly unlimited wireless data plan

I keep an AT&T mobile account as backup smartphone. Though it doesn't compare to Verizon Visible service which is also unlimited 4G/5G data, including unlimited one device hotspot limited to 5Mbps for $25. month (on Party Pay). AT&T still has a way to go to compete with Visible. One recent development I've seen is that 5G mobile is beginning to live up to its claims. That is if you are relatively close to 5G towers, mine about a mile away. The last speed test check on my T-Mobile unlimited 5G/4G home internet: Finally competing with existing cable operators as many are basically monopolies in my area.

RE: How to bypass Windows 11 limits and install on old PC

Just a reminder that Windows 11 is currently a beta version, not a release candidate (RC). Primarily used to discover issues while in development. For curious end users, may be better to wait until a stable WIN11 RC is available.

RE: Internet question????

The easiest solution is if earthlink email offers an auto-forwarding email copy to an external mail account. GMail does. Though brings up an important consideration in that one should not use a primary email account from an internet service provider (ISP). It's to their advantage to make it difficult, if not possible to auto forward emails as it keeps you locked in to their service. Just to avoid the hassles transferring archived mails and having to change email addresses in existing internet accounts. GMail does have a feature to read emails from other service provider accounts. That may be the easiest method if GMail supports earthlink email? See Check emails from other accounts. In GMail webmail, click the Gear icon and go to Accounts and Import > Check mail from other accounts: > Add a mail account. Note that the built-in Outlook email client in WIN10 can also read/write emails from other email providers. Personally, I prefer free email account as it allows you to create separate email alias that forward to your primary account. This keeps your primary email address hidden from most spammers. When the alias email account is no longer useful, delete it and create more if desired. One downside is that spam filter is somewhat aggressive, and can send legit emails to Junk folder. So need to check routinely, or set up contact or filter rules.

RE: Email notifications of new post

Appears to be working in my emailed notifications. What browser are you using if reading your emails online? Hyperlinks especially in emails can be considered a security risk. In general, I don't click links embedded in emails myself.

RE: T-Mobile Home Internet WOW!

For a general idea, my iPhone speed test connected to T-Mobile home internet ($50./month) WiFi: Connected to Verizon Visible ($25./month) 4G LTE mobile data: Both offer unlimited monthly data allowance. Visible is running much faster than I realized.

RE: T-Mobile Home Internet WOW!

I just tried to connect my iPhone to WiFi several times, and it indicated that the password was incorrect? :h Instead of the smartphone app, I used my PC and typed in its IP address into my browser to get to the T-Mobile router admin page. You need to be connected to the router via Ethernet or WiFi. If you don't know the IP address, you can use WIN10 search to find and run Powershell. Type ipconfig /all and locate the default gateway IP for your PC - i.e. 192.168.xx.x Type the IP into your browser address bar and press enter. I checked my WiFi password on the admin page, and it was correct? When I typed the password again in my iPhone, it connected with no problem. Not sure why having the router admin page open made any difference, but not longer having a connection issue. BTW, accessing the admin page through browser gives more info than the smartphone app. It indicated I've used 102G of data so far this month. It's also one of the cleanest interfaces I've seen for any router admin page, and doesn't overburden the user with too many settings.

RE: Original Mobley Obsolete? T-Mobile 5G router is a Nokia brand using the newest WiFi 6, 2-Ethernet ports, and a phone port. You can set SSID, passwords, admin credentials, manage connections, and monitor tower stats from smartphone app. Just remember T-Mobile home internet is not for travel. It's based on a fixed address.

RE: Original Mobley Obsolete?

Three days ago I signed up for & ordered the T-mobile wireless home internet, unlimited data no throttling... My T-Mobile home internet has been consistently 5G, though speeds can vary. I'm thinking due to periods of high tower usage. Amazing considering the 5G map shows that the closest tower is a couple of miles away. Though likely intermediate antennas located nearby my location but not indicated? :h Still easily fast enough to stream 4K video at the slowest speeds I've seen. Haven't personally done so yet. I picked up my free 4G/5G T-Mobile router at a company retail store, though have been told that limited stores have them in stock at this time. So better to call ahead to check availability if that's where you want to get one. Speed test just now with T-Mobile router signal strength indicated as 3/5 bars (Good): width=500

RE: The Home Depot is my new Amazon

Appears to be common among online retailers now. Had the same with that shipped out on UPS, then transferred to USPS for final delivery. Happened on a Saturday recently, so didn't get my package until the first part of the week.
