RE: RV sale pending, but we found evidence of mice...

If they peed in the air vents on the floor you will never get the smell out! Every time you turn on the heat you are going to smell it. Any inaccessible place they have been will retain the smell. Sorry but I would run away from this one.Agree with this - there is a better chance than not that you will have to deal with the leftovers from a mouse infestation from the dead bodies to the nests in inaccessible places, to the smell when running the heat or AC. Keep looking - you will be better off in the long run not buying this one - IMO. Good luck!

RE: 120 days and counting

“and dump my gray water behind the trailer.” Hopefully I won’t be the camper after you. Snip... There should not be another camper after him since he is on his own property next to his home he is building. At least that is how I read his post. BarneyMe two - LOL! Where did you go Lwiddis? I don't come on here much any more, but every time I do, I can be assured that I will see at least one of your condescending blurbs

RE: Choosing our first travel trailer! Big family

Tow capacity is not a number you use to figure out what you can tow travel trailer wise. Tow capacity is determined by pulling a flat trailer with weight in ideal conditions and a driver who's first job is a jockey - with nothing else in the truck. It's not what the truck can pull - it's what it can carry. If your thinking 250/2500, consider a SRW 3500 as you most likely will want a bigger trailer/Fifth wheel in future. Research Payload. Good advice on Grand Design products. I've had nothing but good experiences from them including a major repair on my awning done out of warranty, and their willingness to let a mobile repair guy fix a recall issue - yes, they sent a recall notice for a possible electrical issue. Some people on here with an axe to grind will tell you that they are junk - yes stuff can go wrong, but you can learn from their two forums who to talk to to get things that should be resolved - resolved to your satisfaction. You won't get that many places. For my first TT, I bought an entry level Coleman from camping world. After sitting between uses, I'd open it up and get overwhelmed by off-gassing Formaldehyde. Could not leave clothes or sheets in it - they would become unusable until washed. Camping world had it for warranty repairs in the first month. After not being called a few days after my promised date, I called them. They didn't know where my TT was - wasn't sure they remembered working on it as the tech I was working with had departed the day before. They finally found it on the used lot where people were going through it and removing things that were in there. Would not accept a claim for missing items or damage caused - the vinyl wood grain on the bathroom cabinet was peeling - like someone pulled on it. Good luck

RE: Deeded RV lots

So the wife and I are considering purchasing an rv lot as we approach retirement. I am having a difficult time searching for them. While doing our search too many times sites that are listed as rv communities are more like mobile home parks. Anyone have any search suggestions or websites that cater to listings of rv lots for sale? Or any search suggestions. We are looking for something in the southeast US. We have stayed at Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort twice and enjoyed ourselves. There are usually lots for sale but pricey. There is an HOA there. Another one close by that you can check out is Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort

RE: 30’ 5th wheel

I have the 303RLS - love it. No issues getting into any spots - and I slide it back on my B&W Companion slider.

RE: How to tow & push BACKWARDS?

It seems to me that if you towed it it - the door would be on the wrong side. And I have stayed in an Airstream AirB&B - it was plenty cool. Don't knock it till you have tried it.

RE: Granddesign 31MB

One other thing is that Grand Design customer service is noted to be one of the best in the industry for helping out if there is an issue. Perhaps "were noted" should apply. They were noted by us in 2014 to be one of the best for helping out. It seems now days they changed. They were not much help on our 3950BH frame issues and slideout issues. Both them and Lippert used every excuse in the book including more or less telling us to take a hike, too bad, two months out of warranty. Probably why we unloaded it after 14 months of BS from GD and so many issues we lost count and not counting the many issues I repaired myself out of pocket that were clear warranty issues. They sent me a few parts.....big deal. I definetly agree! Since Winnebago has taken them over the customer service is very poor. Had multiple issues with my 2017 GD Reflection 27RL. AC 1 month out of warranty needed replaced, door lock replaced, entire frame covered in surface rust, circuit board on hotwater tank replaced, rear window won't stay latched, bedroom slide cable to motor had to be replaced, toilet fresh water line leaks, oven refuses to light, bathroom door had to be rehung to line up with latch and many other things. Have an appointment in October (soonest) for TWO recalls to be fixed. I cannot and will not reccommend any Grand Design products as there is no help whatsoever after the sale. DaveDon't know where your getting service from, but GD did extensive repairs for me after the warranty was up on mine. When I go into it after sitting in storage for a while, it still smells new - not like the formaldehyde off gassing Coleman I had. I emailed them and got a return phone call. They also sent me a notice on a recall for a possible electrical issue that will be fixed if needed at no cost - so the statement of no help after the sale is fiction. Lots of stories out there to prove that one wrong - not on here though. Your experience was different for some reason - not going to speculate why, but the OP should go on the the GD user forums where they discuss the good and the bad - on here you only get the people with an axe to grind regardless the brand. Statements like they are all junk make you wonder why your even in the hobby at all. OP - feel free to PM me with any specific questions - and if you can't find their forums, I'll shoot you the links.

RE: Tool kit?

I'm going to do something like theoldwizard1 has. I was gifted a tool set which is OK, but it is in a crappy clamshell plastic box secured by tabs which are falling off, and the tools don't fit snugly in their spots - so when you open it, everything falls out.

RE: 12 volt frige

Yeah, 12V compressor fridges have been the up and coming thing for about the last 18 months in the RV world. They're ~$400 cheaper, 30% larger internal capacity, faster to cool down, and don't need to be perfectly level compared to the 8 cu foot absorption fridge they're replacing. Plus with solar they'll go forever. You don't even need that much solar, a single 100W panel and 2x T110 batteries ran one at Dometic for 21 days, not sure if it actually died due to too many cloudy days or if they just stopped the test. That will be something I'll be looking for to replace mine. Summer camping in the Florida heat requires a shaded site, a re-circulation fan inside and blue ice blocks rotated from the fridge to the freezer - and ice cream is never frozen.

RE: Camping with no reservations

I think that your success in always finding sites is based on the fact that you only stay for a few days. Lots of CG's have sites in two - three day slots. I saw it just last week when the popular CG I was in had sites- nice ones at that, open for 2 - 3 days while we were there. The people who pulled in next to me noticed this but were clueless - the lady exclaimed: "I can't understand why it is so hard to get in here - I see lots of open sites!" When I want to go camping, I want to stay longer - even longer if the drive is over 5 hours. That is harder to find, especially when booking includes a weekend. If I was on the road constantly, and needed a place to lay up for a day or two, I would expect to have your experience of not necessarily needing a reservation. But for most - who camp on vacation time, a reservation is needed.

RE: Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi Towing a Fifth Wheel

I towed my current 12K GD 303RLS with a 2017 Ram 2500, 6.4 L Hemi. It did the job, but always at high revs, and drank A LOT of gas. Upgraded to to 2018 RAM 3500 CTD which also serves as my daily driver and am as happy as a pig in mud. Way better towing experience, uses less fuel, and don't have to listen to the engine screaming all the time. I am more relaxed while towing, and not constantly having to be thinking of how far the next gas station is located. If you have the means to go the diesel route as you mentioned, my advice would be to do it.

RE: Best Place to Sell Tow Vehicle

I'd put it on Craigslist. Yes, you may get some scam email, but so what? You know the ones to ignore. There is no more scammers on CL that there is FB. You can also try, or take it to CarMax and have them give you an offer on it. An RV forum that has a for sale section would also be a good bet - I'd post it there just to see what if any interest it sparks. In the end, put it on multiple sites - like going fishing. I fish with multiple rods so there is a better chance of catching something.

RE: RV awning cleaning

I use Mold Armor on everything that gets moldy - awning, gaskets around cargo doors, propane tank cover. I spray it on and let it sit then rinse - no rolling the awning up, but suppose that doesn't hurt. Walmart, Lowes.

RE: Modern 1/2 ton tow vehicle question

Thank you all, for confirming what I thought. I'll be shopping for a 250 or 350 instead of a 150. Used prices are OK for what I'm looking for, so no worries on this end. Thanks! GregI had a 2500 Ram with the coil spring suspension in the rear - was not a bad ride at all.

RE: Air conditioning in new 5th Wheel

It may be as simple as looking at you thermostat - is it set to fan, or cool high auto?
