RE: Federal Mask mandate

Have you noticed that some have taken to wearing two masks; a disposable mask under a cloth mask??? DW does this to keep her makeup off her fancy stylish mask. Masks have become a fashion statement among the ladies. No kidding! I hate it when my lipstick ruins my favorite chili pepper print cloth mask! :W My apologies. I didn't realize you are female. I assumed you were the guy on the JD No, you’re correct. That’s me! Problem? :W :B :):) I don't have a problem with a guy wearing lipstick. Be yourself and to each their own.

RE: Federal Mask mandate

What rlw999 said. Folks, please stop panicking over things found on Faux News. Everything there has been carefully spun to throw you into a rage. Go to the source to get information that is actually useful. Your blood pressure will thank you for turning Faux News off.The best way to get factual news is to watch 30 minutes of Fox News and then 30 minutes of either CNN or MSNBC. Then you will have the outer boundaries of the facts and the truth will reside somewhere in between.Add some BBC, ABC and PBS and you'll find the facts. Tune out the noise and turn off the TV at 7pm central. Nothing truthful happens after dark. As my mother use to tell me as a young adult, nothing good happens after midnight.

RE: TCs and Covid Vaccinations

^Are you going thru Memorial Hermann or has Houston/Harris County taken over the process? A few days ago my sister went thru Memorial Hermann for a NRG appointment. I would still try the small town stores/pharmacies. Someone might have some leftovers. She's with UTMB. Hers was a leftover because some medical personnel declined the shot. She was scheduled to get theirs. All "leftovers" and future doses in this area are being shipped to Houston until further notice. She was on the phone yesterday and no appointments to be found. All the clinics in Galveston and Brazoria counties are not making appointments at the moment

RE: TCs and Covid Vaccinations

My DW was scheduled for her 1st shot in Galveston on Monday. They informed her yesterday that has been cancelled because the governor decided to send all doses to major metro areas. So her shot went to Houston and she has to wait until who knows when. Her PCP couldn't tell her how to get 1 now. So Close Call all Brookshire Brothers grocery stores within a distance you would drive to. Call the store main number and ask for the pharmacy. They should tell you when you can get on their list. If you call the pharmacy number you will get a recording that is the same for all the stores. We got on the list at our store within walking distance and got the first Moderna vaccine within 7 days. Thanks TxGearhead. That would have worked two weeks ago but they changed the process. They are no longer shipping doses to small volume locations in smaller communities. They are preparing for mega site, drive-by locations in the large cities to increase the daily shot count. She was told to schedule a shot at NRG but they are not taking appointments at the moment. The down side of doing that is they can't guarantee a follow-up shot 2 weeks later. She scheduled both shots a few weeks ago but like I said, they sent them to the big city instead and basically told her to start over and good luck.

RE: Using a Cellular Tablet?

DW uses her iPad on the road. She has a Verizon data plan with it so it works just like her iPhone, but bigger. She's the navigator on the road. When stationary, I use my Samsung as a hot spot and wifi my Kindle to it.

RE: Anyone rent out their camper?

I bought our first TT (26ft Sportsmen bunkhouse) in 2002 for the sole purpose of renting it. The business model was I supply the TT, the rental business rents it, and we split the $ 50/50. I was responsible for all maintenance and insurance. The goal was to use the $ to pay it off in 4 years and sell it for profit. We paid it off in 3 years, took it out of the rental program and kept it for our personal use for another 6 years. As far as damages, the renter provided a credit card and signed a liability agreement stating all damage repairs will be charged to the CC with a $2000 limit. The business owner would put a $2K hold on the CC before the TT left the lot. Anything over $2K was covered by insurance. The only non-repairable damage I had was a kid with a crayon marking the wall. The dinette booth cushions flattened out and became uncomfortable. All repairs and cleaning was done by the business. I never saw anything. I do know a pass through door needed to be replaced, the freezer door needed to be replaced and the porch light lens needed to be replaced a few times. It was always clean with full propane bottles whenever we saw it. I had to buy a new battery about 2 years into it. This unit rented well during the warm months, about 50%, but not much during winter. If it wasn't for the rodeo and race track it wouldn't have rented at all in the winter. Would I do it again? Not the FW I have now. No Way!!!! If the same guy was running the same business model today, I might consider buying a used TT just to see if I could turn a buck. I trusted the original business owner and liked working with him. We pulled our unit out of the program because he sold the business to a real shady character. The new guy changed the rules in his favor, started nickel and diming me, etc.

RE: [SOLVED] Can an inverter on a car charge the house battery?

Can you get your vehicle close enough to the house battery to use jumper cables? That's how I do it. Per this battery manufacturer, alternators direct connected (using battery cables or jumper cables) are not designed to charge batteries, only maintain them. Also, I recall an Interstate battery tech telling me the same. But inverters are common, provided I get the sizing right, engine RPMs, all thatSo let me see if I got this correct: You are concerned about using your charging system going straight from the source (alternator) to your depleted group 24 battery, but you're ok with going from the source, through an inefficient inverter, back through an inefficient converter to recreate the DC you just had? How could that possibly be better? I bulk my group 29 battery for about 20 minutes with jumper cables when needed. That gets me back to about 75%. You don't need to completely recharge your battery every time. It's inefficient doing so with a generator. Give it a good full charge when you get home.

RE: Superglide Hitch / Capture Plate Question

When I bought my Superglide the dealer ordered the wrong plate. He locked the hitch from sliding with what he called "slide locks". I thought he got them from Pullrite. They looked something like this: https://i.imgur.com/QCc56Yjl.jpg He clamped them here: https://i.imgur.com/l4ztwdnl.jpg Then tighted up this bump stop: https://i.imgur.com/6Ro8KYUl.jpg When I returned to have the plate installed and reconfigured, he noted he didn't grease the hitch surface and it got scarred up: https://i.imgur.com/lnpIIZQl.jpg I towed about 600 miles with my slide locked as described. I like C.B's setup better

Can you get your vehicle close enough to the house battery to use jumper cables? That's how I do it. Most newer model vehicles are smart enough to not over-tax the alternator.

I've used the same tube of Lucas Red & Tacky #2 for years. Easy to apply without a gun, I used chop sticks. Wiped it off after each trip.

RE: Wallet where heart is

I watched Marcus live on Fox News this afternoon. He made some good comments and points for the most part. A real stand up guy with a Make It Happen attitude. However, one thing he beat on was the lack of FEMA involvement. Is this tragic event at a level that would justify FEMA involvement? Residents, business and building owners have insurance policies to call on. Local organizations should certainly be offering aid to address immediate needs. But I'm not sure this would be at the FEMA level. This just struck me as strange. What's your thoughts?
