RE: Camping at Petersburg, Alaska

Not many choices: https://www.campgroundreviews.com/regions/alaska/petersburg Are you going this year? Are you touring Alaska? I highly recommend Mike and Terri Church's book, 'Alaskan Camping' which includes Canada, Yukon and the border states of the lower U.S. They lived in Fairbanks and traveled to the lower 48 all the time so they know the campgrounds and boondocking spots. Due to Covid you may find campgrounds and fuel stations out of business. They've had a tough time staying afloat without travelers. Always drive on the top 1/2 of your tank and don't plan to shop for good prices. Get it when you see it.

RE: Open in August 9th

This is the official site Canadian Govt Note: "and who qualify as fully vaccinated travellers," Did you take the time to open any links on the page I supplied and read them? Click on this link under the heading ( Check if you qualify for the exemption) or the page that Steve so kindly opened. It’s pretty straightforward Soup. YES, I READ THE LINK..... and that's why I was suggesting that folks make Note: "and who qualify as fully vaccinated travellers," meaning..... they need to read who qualifies. Yep... my reply was pretty straightforward

RE: Salt Lake City to Reno Nevada

You have another post going on this subject. Be sure to check it. It's 518 miles via I-80 and you'll have some 4-6% grades. Not bad... just like most highways in the West. Have a good trip!

RE: Central Missouri to Colorado Springs

Head to Boulder and take 36 into Estes. No problems. Your big issue is getting through I-25 to Denver - slow, traffic, construction

RE: Benchmark atlases or ???? Hiking trails on something else?

Benchmark is so much better than Delorme. It's super easy to read details and shows public lands good. We love them. Nothing can compare if you're an explorer. https://www.benchmarkmaps.com/atlas For hiking you need a hiking map. https://www.natgeomaps.com/trail-maps/trails-illustrated-maps

RE: Escapade is on

RV rally. What happened to all the rallies anyway? RV.Net use to be full of them. There's a separate 'rally' section on this forum... nestled under 'General'. I would guess rallies weren't held because of Covid.

2Oldman said Only that he calls himself a bully. So there's that. tell the rest of the story old sport that I am only a bully to other bullies on other forums and I also happen to be 75. Why do you have to continue stating this nonsense?

RE: What's up with Rocky Mt. National Park entry?

You’re ignoring the part about “for future generations” which will be difficult to fulfill if the numbers of this generation are destroying or changing what is to be preserved for future generations. So do we just pick and choose who and when gets to see the NP’s? No. They need to restructure the NP service. It’s not the 1900’s anymore, parks need to grow with the people for future generations! Unfortunately it is not like you can build another Yosemite Valley, or another Longs Peak, Yellowstone caldera, or a glacier. Even if you were to grow the system and add more National Parks, I am not sure it would reduce the visitations at the ones that have gone to reservations - there is a reason the visitation at RMNP is ten times higher than the Black Canyon. The NPS isn't picking and choosing who and when you can visit the parks, the users are still choosing, they just have to plan ahead. This is the same system that has been in place for campgrounds, back country hikers, river runners and climbers for years. Excellent reply. There can't be another Grand Canyon Nat'l Park or others. We need to take care of what we have and crowds like the two above posted photos is not taking care of our parks. As volunteers in the national parks we saw first-hand the damage that some visitors do and the impact on crowds. It's not pretty. We just need to plan ahead more and help to preserve the awesome parks we have.

RE: Running the generator all night

OP: You're concerned about safety, as you should be. However, first you need to check with the Harvest Host to make sure it's allowed, especially if there will be other campers parked nearby. Most people don't want to hear a generator all night. Same goes for boondocking... it's just common sense to not park near another if you're planning to do this.

RE: RV selling

We took our last trip in our motorhome to Houston at PPL Consignment. It sold within a month for the price we put on it to a guy from Florida. PPL wanted to put a lower price but we thought that everyone wants to come down in price so we kept it high. Our buyer didn't even suggest lower. It's so easy to do and it's in a prime RV-buying corridor so lots of lookers/buyers. We just didn't want to deal with endless phone calls, setting up appointments and then no-shows.

Is there a good consignment near you? I agree with another poster in that if you're out in the boonies people won't want to make the effort.

RE: Driving people to boondock by calling themselves a "Resort"

I don't think the biggest consideration for boondocking is price. I think it's more lifestyle based than economic. I have no interest in boondocking. That's not what I RV for. Many boondockers have no interest in a developed campground, regardless of cost. It's a mindset and not much else. You're correct. We spent 16 years of full-timing and rarely stayed at a RV park or Resort. We boondocked on public lands because we like the quietness and no lights. We enjoy nature and there's nothing better than to park at the edge of a beautiful stream or lake with no one else around. It has absolutely nothing to do with free camping. Once we're set up we use the Jeep for exploring the backroads and doing hikes. That's where the beauty of our country is... not in a 'resort'.

RE: Montana

Fort Peck is a great stopping point if you're enroute east or west but it's not a destination. The 'good stuff' is mid-Montana and to the West. It just depends what your interests are. We love trout fishing, hiking and boondocking so can't help with RV parks. Places we've enjoyed are Livingston, Bozeman, Big Sky area, Ennis , Wisdom, Anaconda/Philipsburg, Missoula, Helena, Basin, Glacier NP, Columbia Falls/Kalispell, Bigfork, Polson, Libby Google 'Montana, Things To Do' and lots of ideas come up.

RE: beginner full-time

Have you decided on a landing spot when your done travelling? After selling down on possessions, you will have some items to store, where you do that can simplify things later if you already know roughly where. There's absolutely no reason to select a 'landing spot' before starting to full-time. How can you do that? You haven't seen the country yet. We sold everything and had no idea how long we'd be full-timing or what we'd do when we were ready to quit. I will recommend though if you sell a house that you invest that money and not use it to buy your RV. That money will be your exit strategy. Go into full-time debt-free. Putting things in storage can be very expensive and you could buy again for what you'd pay over the years. Then your stuff is outdated. As it turned out we continued for 16 years and it was only in the last year where we decided to set roots again. It was in an altogether different part of the country from where we lived last.

RE: Free Immunizations to Tourists

I don't understand what good their idea will do. The tourists could already get Covid enroute to Alaska via the planes or cruise ships.

Your planned route is good. We've done it multiple times in a 40' motorhome.

RE: El Paso, TX

I'd recommend staying in Las Cruces and doing a day trip or two to ElPaso.
