RE: This is our RV electric future. It's the future man!

I think we need that picture quoted again.

RE: This is our RV electric future. It's the future man!

No reason to expect in normal use that an EV semi will go up hill noticeably faster. does it really make sense to spend a ton of money to be able to go 10mph faster up a hill? It's not what I expect, it's what the specs say. From the website specs: "Speed Up a 5% Grade=Highway speed limit" No, but it may make sense if it goes up a hill 30-40mph faster. Trucking companies are always looking for ways to get there faster.

RE: This is our RV electric future. It's the future man!

Then when I looked at the potential savings in fuel vs registering and insuring a second vehicle...all the savings were out the window. Just got an oil change on the F250...$29 out the door including taxes. I average about 2 per year...not a big deal.My new 2022 Leaf is rated for 175 miles, plenty for me as it's just a grocery getter. Got it from Carvana. Took 2 weeks, they did everything including plates and title. It's hard to buy an electric car from a dealer around here. They have to be paid up front, usually MSRP, and then wait. Did my own garage level 2 charge station. Oil changes on my Freightliner Cummins 8.3 are about 10x your cost. Unfortunately electric isn't quite up to the towing task yet. The economics of an EV don't bother me so much as I feel good that I'm making my miniscule contribution to mitigating climate change. And, really, I just love new things with all the technology, including automatic braking, safety alerts of all kinds, voice recognition..etc.

RE: This is our RV electric future. It's the future man!

There are segments where EVs make sense (commuter cars in multi car families, local delivery trucks...but once you need to cover long distances at high speed pulling a lot of weight, the limited range is a deal killer. For now, yes. Musk's semi is looking promising with several hundred mile range. Don't know the charging requirements however, and I imagine it will be quite expensive. But as I said earlier, I would think OTR drivers (if this truck even needs one!) would be overjoyed at not having to slow down to a crawl on a hill. I think the automobile and truck technology is going to blow our minds in the next decade. I just hope I'm around to see it.

Why does Turtle seek out something disliked and post about it?The impetus in his case is climate change, which is common for EV bashers.

Now days company's just get billions of dollars from the federal government. Oil has been subsidized forever. I'm pretty happy with my $7,000 tax credit.

RE: This is our RV electric future. It's the future man!

The reason people use very little E85 is because it isn't practical. When people learned it dropped their mileage about 25 to 30% people dropped that idea like a hot potato. As always, the consumer will decide what's successful. Just got my new Leaf and I love passing gas stations and Jiffy lubes. I recharge about every 4 days at home. The advance of technology has increased exponentially over time. How true. Look at what's in the palm of our hands vs what we had in the 80s. I have every reason to believe in the evolution of batteries and charging capabilities, as do the auto makers.

RE: This is our RV electric future. It's the future man!

many years ago on this very forum people were saying we should go to alcohol as a fuel. I said it was a bad idea and it will never "be practicable". It wasn't; but I was still shouted down by people that just didn't understand the problems of using alcohol as a motor fuel. Then people jumped on the algae diesel fuel gig. We were going to get our fuel from algae. I showed the math that showed why that wouldn't work. Again I was shouted down.As far as I recall car makers weren't retooling or adapting for those fuels. They sure are for EVs.

Semis (OTR) electric haulers will require no shifting, no jake brakes and no slowing down on hills. Cool. I would imagine all but the most hardcore crabby old drivers could go for that.

RE: Smaller Propane Tanks

What are you paying per gallon? $19.99 for an exchange doesn't seem that bad to me.And convenient. I went to the smaller tanks simply because of the weight. The only issue I've had with them is often the tanks are quite old, and I assume the valves are too. I've had a few problems with how tricky it is to get the valves to open. On occasion I've had to use a screwdriver on the relief screw to relieve pressure to get the valve to work. That said, if a refiller overfills them, same problem.

RE: How to re-caulk RV trailer roof?

I use Heng's rubber roof seal. Thin, goes on like paint. No leaks. Would cover all that and make it look a lot better.
