RE: Should/will Glacier, Teton and Yellowstone open?

. We’re trading a few weeks of intense pain for years of economic depression worse than anything in our nation’s history.I think you might be exaggerating just a bit.

RE: 50 Amp Receptacle to Inverter

I admit I may be confused, but wouldn't that mean running a 24 volt battery bank? How would that work with the 12V system in the RV?DC /DC converter.

RE: 50 Amp Receptacle to Inverter

My standard recommendation for high-wattage inverters, if you do run microwaves and toasters and coffee makers regularly, is to get a 24v or higher model. Higher voltage in means smaller cables and less potential for heat buildup in the batteries and cable connectors.

RE: 50 Amp Receptacle to Inverter

I'm avoiding the $1,500 GoPower or Victron options in favor of a $300 standard pure sine inverter. None of these more affordable models appear to have an AC in.No, that's because they're not chargers. Beware of cheaper models though. They're often lighter, meaning they're made of cheaper materials, and don't often live up to their wattage ratings, and won't likely last more than a couple years depending on your use. After going through one of these I bit the bullet and got an Outback 3400w. It's heavy, almost as heavy as a generator, but built like a tank. In the end it's much cheaper to just buy the best the first time. Cry once.

RE: Should/will Glacier, Teton and Yellowstone open?

It's going to be a very boring summer if this stay home stuff goes on. Nothing to do in town, and if Mesa Verde etal remain closed, can't even go camping. I just don't see how the economy can stay shut down like this. Business will have to implement plans to require gloves, masks and limit the number of customers. Otherwise, it's going to be all over for many many businesses.

RE: 50 Amp Receptacle to Inverter

rather than go through a super complicated and expensive direct to panel wire install, I'm planning using the jury rigged solution of wiring a receptacle to the high output terminals on the inverter and plugging my standard shore power cable into that to power the AC appliances on battery. I'm no 50a expert, but I'll try some of this. A direct-to-panel install is a piece of cake, at least it was on my 30a coach. I just found where the shore cable connected to the panel's input cable, broke that, ran it to inverter 120v in, and 120v out to panel. Easy. You said "high output terminals." A 3000 watt inverter should have a hard-wire option.. is that what you mean?

RE: New Federal Fuel Economy Standard (SAFE)

small 3/1000th of one degree Celsius by 2100 and 8/100ths of a percent increase in atmospheric CO2 concentration in 2100. Goes to show how ridiculous some of the regulations have gotten and how much they cost the industry/consumer.I would have to agree, IF those figures are correct. But, I'm also seeing this administration having its way with the EPA in cutting many other environmental regulations in the name of making money. I'm hopeful the burning of fossil fuels is on its way into history.

RE: This might be helpful for single ladies

The first item necessary for full time is to have an exit strategy. That would most likely be money.

I think you are overthinking this "sense of danger". .x2. If I had to live with constant worry of being 'in danger' I would never do this. A friend keeps telling me to get a gun, especially when camping near the border. Like many people, he thinks being in remote areas makes you a target, when just the opposite is true. And camping near the border, well I guess to him that's just insane. A lot of misinformation there.

RE: The sound of wings -- no longer just for us boondockers

Interesting.. never thought of that. I always liked when it snowed in Seattle (rarely) and everything got real quiet. Quiet is the main thing I strive for when boondocking. You don't get much of that in an RV park.

RE: 2019–20 CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC POSTINGS

A true representation of what is happening is that hospitals are being overwhelmed with people dying from this,Not exactly. They are being overwhelmed by cases in general. You are not in the hospital unless you're in bad shape.

RE: Verizon's free 15gig

It makes sense that they only add it if needed. Only good from 3/25 thru 4/30. If they added it to your account wouldn't it then carry over any unused data to the next billing period?Yes, I would assume so.

RE: 2019–20 CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC POSTINGS

Keep in mind the death rate number is not a true representation of what is happening. Situations like the nursing home in Washington State (and now elsewhere) skew the numbers considerably..A true representation of what is happening is that hospitals are being overwhelmed with people dying from this, and can't get proper protective equipment. You really don't want to have to go to the hospital for anything. I've never seen anything like that in my life. I like numbers too, but any comfort from statistics is of little value when this is happening. I'm just glad I can still take a breath.
