RE: Looking for a NW Iowa park

We just spent a couple of days at Newton Hills State Park south of Sioux Falls, SD. In that corner of the state that is just across the border from both Iowa and Minnesota. Very nice park. 50 amp service and big rig friendly with big, level sites. Would be very nice for the outing you describe. Blue Mound State Park in far southern Minnesota (near NW Iowa and SD) is also a nice park. (Sorry I didn't see your post sooner.)

RE: Glacier national park campgrounds

We have stayed at the West Glacier KOA. Very nice. Would definitely go back there.

RE: Where do you store your Shoes, Boots, Sandals and Slippers

We have an actual couch in our trailer, and I keep a couple of boot trays under there for storing the shoes. Works very well.

RE: Covid chores...check-off list

We don't really have anything that needs doing right now. I'm not even going to do the spring cleaning (it's still pretty clean from the pre-storage fall cleaning) or load it up with our stuff until I know we actually get to go somewhere. I'm sure DH will do a good wash and wax at some point, and get up on the roof to check everything up there (he's probably already done that...), but, again, no real motivation at this point. I think he is thinking about repacking the wheel bearings. Oh, we did switch out the door lock to a keyless entry. We haven't de-winterized yet either.

RE: Insurance

The terms of our loan require replacement coverage on the trailer until the loan is paid off. And even if that wasn't the case, even if I'm not traveling and the trailer is just sitting in my driveway, there are still all kinds of things that could happen to it. We won't be cancelling insurance.

RE: Glacier National Park Info

Glacier can be very crowded, especially in July and August -- prime time there. If you want to drive the Going to the Sun Road and stop at Logan Pass to do some hiking (the Hidden Lake trail is awesome!), you need to be there very early in the morning, like before 8:00, to get a parking space. Really, anything along that road fills up pretty quickly in the mornings. Some say that waiting until late afternoon is a good time too, but then you are limited on how much time you have there before sunset. When we went, there was not one parking space available in the Logan Pass Visitor Center parking lot by 8:30 a.m. The West Glacier KOA is a great place to stay! However, I see that they are already booking for 2021! It's possible they are already booked full for this year. We had one very peaceful day in Glacier, away from the crowds at the Fish Creek picnic area. Very few people there, very quiet. Did a little fishing and a long hike along the shore of Lake MacDonald. Beautiful. Whitewater rafting was one of our favorite activities in Glacier. Did that through Glacier Guides/Montana Rafting. Very fun!

RE: Any problems with Goodyear Endurance tires?

We put the Goodyear Endurance on our travel trailer at the beginning of the 2017 summer season and put over 4600 miles on them that summer. No issues. The following year, we sold the travel trailer and bought a 5th wheel. We had the dealer take off the manufacturer tires and put on the Goodyear Endurance before we even took it home. Two seasons and almost 9,000 miles on those tires and no issues.

RE: Double Towing vs Toyhauler

Our Winnebago 5th wheel came standard with a 300 lb hitch weight/3,000 lb towing capacity hitch as part of the frame. We pull the boat with it. (70" length limit in our state.) We would recommend putting in a rear observation camera. It has been very helpful to be able to see the boat (and the surrounding traffic...) back there when we are traveling.

RE: RV parks North across bridge from Mackinaw City

We also stayed at Straits State Park when we visited the St. Ignace/Mackinac Island area. Very nice campground. Would definitely camp there again. But do be careful when selecting a site. We travel with a 30 ft 5th wheel and our site was very adequate for our size and needs, but other sites were much smaller (but others were bigger; there were definitely bigger rigs than ours in the campground). A few are oddly placed. Just need to do due diligence when selecting a site.

RE: Murphy Bed vs. Separate Bedroom

My sister has a Rockwood Mini Lite 2509S which she purchased new one year ago. It has a Murphy bed, u-shaped dinette in a slide, and double bunks at the back, as well as other features such as an outdoor kitchen. She likes it very much so far. The Murphy bed does not fold when it stows, so there is not an issue with it creasing. It goes up vertical and flat. I have slept on it, and it's actually quite comfortable. More comfortable than the bed in my own 5th wheel actually. (It's actually got more water capacity than my 5th wheel too...) There is a front window for more light when the bed is down and even a little window in the bathroom area. Very nice. She doesn't find the Murphy bed a pain to deal with, and there are many days when she doesn't even bother stow it. Because like you said, a lot of the time you are not even in the trailer. But it's not a big deal when she does decide to stow it. Not sure the actual dimensions of the "double" bunks, but they are not really the size of a full-sized bed. They are not huge. In a trailer of that size, I think you would want a slide; otherwise it can get very cramped very quickly if you need to be inside. Might be worth your time taking a look at one of these trailers.
