RE: Is a stabilizer jack for fifth wheel hitch worth the money?

When we are set up in the same spot more than two nights, my wife thinks it makes the rig more stable. That makes it worth it!

RE: A very good reason Not to scrimp on surge protectors.

In the past 5 years my PI (50) has tripped three times. Twice for low voltage (both times in Canada) and once for no ground when my neighbor drove over his ped while leaving the CG.

RE: Replace OEM tires with 2 years life left?

If it were mine; I would replace them ASAP.

RE: Thoughts on slider awnings

Rain, leaves, bird poop, pine needles, snow. We wouldn't be without them. Seriously, I'm not about to try to climb up there somehow to remove leaves or rainwater before I run the slides in. A

RE: Home made 50 amp power cord.

Make up a standard cord and then use the adapter. Like the rest of us did. Duhh!

RE: Wheel Bearing Repack

But then we would have to give up a perfectly good "conspire against consumers" theory.

RE: The more I learn, the more I realize what I don't know

Don't overlook slightly used. It is amazing how many people buy a fiver and then find that RVing is not really what they thought it would be. Two model years back is not really old and the biggest chunk of depreciation is taken out. Don't get me wrong; most of us love our choices and are not running out to sell them almost new, but one or two percent of total RVs on the road is a pretty good number.

RE: Odd Part

When a "flush Floor" slide reaches the outer limit of travel, the inner edge drops down over the edge of the floor frame of the trailer so it is "flush". (The originality of naming such features is amazing.) When it starts back in, there has to be some kind of a ramp to let the leading edge climb back up above the main floor. The piece you are looking at provides that ramp effect. It is made of ABS (the same as car bumpers) and should be available from a good RV body parts house. Sorry, I didn't have time for a long answer the first time I posted. A

RE: 5.9 Cummins Diesel Towing capacity

You probably don't have the rear axle capacity to carry that pin weight, even with a dually (2001). The engine will handle it fine. Maybe not at 70mph, but at any reasonable speed.

RE: Odd Part

Google "RV parts salvage" in Elkhart, IN.

I don't need to look at Google Anything. We have been there.

RE: Which route would be less higher grade

50 is beautiful. Then there is this place called Monarch.

RE: Kebler Pass CO

I'm not sure why you would want to do that, but I would call the Visitor's Bureau in Crusty Butt and ask if anyone had been over it recently and ask them to give you a call. Last time we were in CB we came out over Ohio (without the trailer) and it was in sad shape. Deep snow in June that year. A

RE: Budget to outfit new 5th wheel?

Are you including interior stuff like kitchen equipment and supplies? Bedding? Laundry? Or just basic steup and hookup needs? Chocks, leveling blocks, ground pads, levels, power, water, sewer? Where will it be used? Dependable power and water supply or is protection needed? Do you have basic heavy tools? 12 Ton hydraulic jack and portable air compressor? Tire changing tools including breaker bar? Just for exterior basics you are probably looking at between $1200 and $2500 without going top-of-the-line on anything. Interior is a whole nother deal!! A

RE: Experience replacing RV fridge drain hose?

Lowes has a clear plastic hose with a fiber reinforcement in the plastic. If your fridge is in a slideout, the drain fitting can be reached by removing one of the fans.

RE: Overhead Clearence

With some warnings, they are fairly accurate. Federal Highway Admin design standards require that they be within 2 inches at time of construction. However.... 1. States have uniformly adopted FHWA standards. Cities and Counties are on their own. Nobody deliberately miss-marks a clearance, but some may not be marked at all. 2. Maintenance agencies tend to leave old signs in place when they repave (except on Interstates) and paving can raise the road surface as much as 1.5", reducing clearance. 3. 13'- 6" is minimum for federal and state roads without advanced warning signs. Minimum is measured at the closest point between the road surface and the bottom of the overhead structure; usually at the right edge line of the right lane. 4. Confirm your actual highest point. (RV manufacturers frequently forget air conditioners or sat dishes) Measure with the unit loaded for travel and the air suspension (if equipped) pumped up. My trailer is 12' - 9" over the front AC. I approach anything less than 13' - 3" (six inches clear) with extreme caution. My height in English and Metric units us written in large letters on a card taped to the driver's sun visor. A

Hate to break this suddenly, but our cases per 100,000 are 19th in the nation.

RE: Sandpaper 5th wheel

In the real world, the voltage drop on a 50 foot 3/#6 RV cord is not measurable!

RE: 5th wheel hitch lift

Been hanging mine from the trailer pin for 15 years now. Never a problem.
