RE: 5th Wheel with no dually truck

I pull 13,500# with my 3500 SRW long bed diesel and have never felt that I needed more truck. Florida, New England, Nova Scotia, Yellowstone, Alaska, Yosemite, Monarch Pass, and everywhere in between. A

RE: Remote Door Lock?

I just keep in mind the fact that my son (the Chevy Technician) keeps saying "The more gee-whiz/flash-bang features you have on any vehicle, the more chances that something is going to poop in your hat!" Do I REALLY need this?? A

RE: Checking on Wheel Bearing Heat

I walk around the trailer with a HF gun every time we stop. Infra red on the hubs and visual on the treads, hatches, doors, and any fluids that might be falling out..

RE: rockies or smokey's

Without the Allison tranny, it is a whole different game. Even the older GMs with Duramax/Allison (like mine) handle grades differently. Your Owner's Manual is your friend.

RE: Leaving dog at campsite

You will catch a lot of flak from other campers if you mean leaving him outside in the crate (even with water). We have a folding crate that fits at the foot of the bed. Blackjack, who must about half the size of your dog, is quite happy to sleep quietly in it when we are away from the trailer. He will bark briefly if somebody knocks on the door or when he hears my truck pull in but otherwise you would not know he is there. We will put him in there when we pull into a lunch stop and want to go inside to eat. He is happy enough to do it since he knows he will get a treat (french fries or bread bits or something) when we get back. One other thing: He is used to sleeping in that crate at home as his "safe place".

RE: RV toilet paper

Maybe it depends on how much you use at one time??

RE: Wheel chocks

I guess to choke your trailer; you have to get your hands around the kingpin and squeeze hard!

RE: Excessive Heat in Fifth Wheel

A long reply, but stay with me. In 16 we left Yosemite in mid July to return to Florida by the southern route. Bartow, Tucson, Bisbee, Sonoma, etc. You get the idea. 35 foot fiver with 15K BTU ducted in the main area and 13K non-ducted in the bedroom. Double paine tinted windows. White roof and slide toppers on all three slides. The desert in July is not your friend. In Tucson we went to Home Depot and got two rolls of Reflectix brand insulation foil and some blue painter's tape. This stuff is like aluminum foil bubble wrap and is also available, I think, at Camping World. Cover the inside of every window you can reach. (That makes seeing out a little difficult, but heat comming in is the problem.) Cover skylights and vents also. That made about a 15 degree difference in 105 degree heat. It is never going to get "cold" inside, but it was far better than 88. Good luck.

RE: Only 1/2 of AC Units working

I cannot find on the FR factory website a unit with more than three rooftop units so I'm not sure which one you are talking about. (I also can not imagine needing three A/Cs, but that is a different thread.) I would google "Mobile RV Repair; XYZ, Idaho" and see what turns up. It is probably worth paying a service trip charge to avoid having to take it to, and leave it at, a dealer.

RE: Custom truck bed

Check a company called Herrin Haulers out of East Texas (Kilgore maybe?).

RE: Out of state license and storage.

If the insurance company buys it, start worrying about something else.

RE: RV toilet paper

Since somebody brought up my previous post, I'll try again: Use whatever makes your butt happy! Or, more importantly, use whatever makes your significant other's butt happy!

RE: Where to connect brake break away cable on Patriot Hitch

It is almost impossible for a hitch to carry away, but IF IT SHOULD, hook the breakaway to something in the bed of the truck.

RE: Fifth Wheels with Long bed truck cover

My long bed has a Pace Edwards retractable cover thanks to a birthday gift from the kids. I built a plywood partition across the bed just forward of the hitch and the cover will lock at this position. Gives me a "semi-secure" truck box when the trailer is on the hitch.

RE: Is a stabilizer jack for fifth wheel hitch worth the money?

When we are set up in the same spot more than two nights, my wife thinks it makes the rig more stable. That makes it worth it!

RE: A very good reason Not to scrimp on surge protectors.

In the past 5 years my PI (50) has tripped three times. Twice for low voltage (both times in Canada) and once for no ground when my neighbor drove over his ped while leaving the CG.

RE: Thoughts on slider awnings

Rain, leaves, bird poop, pine needles, snow. We wouldn't be without them. Seriously, I'm not about to try to climb up there somehow to remove leaves or rainwater before I run the slides in. A

RE: Home made 50 amp power cord.

Make up a standard cord and then use the adapter. Like the rest of us did. Duhh!
