RE: First goof up, I have to share

We were at home working on ours one day, both of us had a set of keys. DW set her keys just inside the door on the counter. I was futzing around with the door lock, apparently locked it with the door still open and also set my keys on the counter just inside the door. Closed the door and as it clicked shut realized that both set of keys were inside the trailer. Road service came out and we were able to get it unlocked. Now there is a third set of keys in the truck. Another time while out camping we locked the trailer up and went into town to the store. Got back and could not unlock the trailer. DW suspects someone tried to use one of the generic keys (we had changed out the lock set) and messed it up. Ended up having to "borrow" a fellow campers small child and petite wife to crawl in the back window and open up from the inside.

RE: Where to connect brake break away cable on Patriot Hitch

We have the B&W Companion and with our old trailer we would hook to on the arm of the hitch. Just picked up our new trailer a couple of weeks ago and drove it home. This time we hooked the cable to the D ring tie down on the back drivers side. Backing into the drive requires a 90 degree turn, pulled the cable and activated the breaks. Took me a second or two to figure out what was going on. :S So we'll have to come up with a different location, but at least the trailer brakes work.;)

RE: Fighting zoning ordinances that hurt RV owners

It will be a long battle, but the first thing I would do is research how other ordinances of this type were overturned, copies of the ordinance and any petition etc that was used. (Sounds like you may have done some of that already.) Next I would find out what kind of process is needed in your particular town to have an ordinance overturned, petitioned to be put in front of the council etc. Then get with a local attorney for assistance in the drafting of what ever the required document is. Last get with as many RV owners in your area to either sign a petition, show up at a council meeting, to push for the change. Find the best spokesman to present your case in a respectful manner and hope for the best. That's my two cents, hope this helps a little.

RE: Honda 2200i or Honda 2200i Companion?

Why would you not get the 2200 Companion first? That way you can plug in to your 30amp plug from generator to trailer. without 30 to 20 dog bone. C.B. Cost and we would have to have the Companion ordered in, instead of getting the in stock 2200. And our new trailer will be 50 amp so I'll still need a dog bone to plug in.

RE: Honda 2200i or Honda 2200i Companion?

Ditto on the Honda! I use a 2000 watt with an 8k window AC. If you want to run an AC with the Honda, might want to look into one of these. I have not bought one, but would spend my money on one if needed. We're looking into those at the moment. I need to find out if it voids the factory warranty and check with my A/C guy about an install.

RE: Honda 2200i or Honda 2200i Companion?

Thanks for all the info. We'll be going with the 2200i and if needed get the Companion later. As for why not the Predator? I like Honda's

Honda 2200i or Honda 2200i Companion?

We are looking at buying a Honda generator and are having a discussion as to which one to get. At the moment getting both to run parallel is out of our budget. I am assuming that either of these two can be run as a stand alone, and if that is so then is there any advantage to Honda Companion over the other? We're willing to pay the extra for the Companion if it's the better one for RV use.

RE: MorRyde You Turn Rotating Pinbox - Update from B & W

Got a very quick response from B&W on my follow up question. We're good to go with the MorRyde as long as it it locked so that it doesn't pivot. You could give me a little credit for the correct answer! You're right, you had it first. :W

RE: MorRyde You Turn Rotating Pinbox - Update from B & W

Got a response from B&W ~ "Unfortunatly the MorRyde pin box is not compatible to be used with the Companion models that mount into the turnover ball because there is only one point of attachment to the bed of your truck." I followed up asking if they had any recommendations on a pin box, so we'll see. In the mean time I still have 2 weeks before we pick up the new trailer, so any suggestions on a pin box would be welcome.

RE: MorRyde You Turn Rotating Pinbox - Update from B & W

I have the turn over ball slider hitch. I'll give B&H a call and see what they advise as the best option. Thanks for the reply's.

MorRyde You Turn Rotating Pinbox - Update from B & W

We will be taking delivery on our new Arctic Wolf 285DRL4 in three weeks. It has the MorRyde you turn rotating pinbox which I'm not familiar with. I currently have a B&W Companion slider in the short bed Ford. How well does this box work with short bed trucks? If it performs well, then one of the advantages would be that I can trade out the slider base for a regular Companion base saving my truck and my back about 80 pounds. In a very brief talk with one of the service techs, the plan at the moment would be to lock the pinbox and continue using the slider. Disclaimers: didn't find anything doing a search, I'm aware of the recall on this particular box and will check with the dealer about this, and I won't switch to the Anderson. :B Thanks in advance for any input.

RE: Advantage of residential refrig?

Most of our camping has been to parks where electric is available. One of the requirements that DW wants is solar capability so the residential doesn't sound like it will be much of a problem. She also wants enough generator power to run the AC if we happened to be where power is not available. There is one campground on the Smokey Mountain Parkway that we have gone to in the past that does not have hookups which in the past has not been a problem. We'll see how it goes, if/when we get the new trailer.

RE: Advantage of residential refrig?

Thanks for the quick reply. I have no idea why doing a search is never the first thing I think of, and it should be. :)

Advantage of residential refrig?

We currently have a gas/electric refrig in our 5th wheel. We are in the process of trading to a newer unit and the one we are looking at has a residential refrig running thru an inverter. What are the advantages, disadvantages of the residential over the gas/electric types?
