RE: Power gear slide control

I have Powergear slides but no panel. The switches are mounted on a panel with other switches eg HWH, water pump, etc. They are tiny little switches and my fingers slide off. I dislike them.

RE: To DP or not DP

It’s not the engine or trans that give you issues. It’s the turbo, turbo plumbing, turbo boost sensor, fan belts, tensioner, compressors, multiple radiators, etc. In other words, everything around it. I see semis on the side of the road often.

RE: To DP or not DP

I just looked at the Newell in the link. To each their own. If I won that in a raffle I’d sell it the next day. What a tacky money pit. You pull in in that and they’re thinking now we can make payroll. There are many county road bridges you can’t drive across. What a headache.

RE: To DP or not DP

It’s all about trade offs to me. I’ve had two gas coaches and bought a new DP in 2005. Some rhetorical questions to provoke thought. Are you going out west in the Rockies? Do you like getting off the Interstate and driving US highways and county roads? Do you like older state parks with lots of shade or prefer wide open RV Resorts? Are you going to be driving often, move around often or sit for a few months at a time? Class Cs weigh about 15K lbs, are under 11’ tall and almost all shops will work on them; it’s a van. All the dash electronics, AC, sheet metal, electric windows. Simple and reliable. You can pull off the road and not sink in. Driver comfort not as good as DP. But they fit in low clearances and are comfortable on backroads. And Billy Bob can work on them. Class A gas weigh low 20s and over 11’ tall. The drivability I’m sure is way better than my old gas chassis. A friend bought a 2000 F53 drove it 15 years with few problems; brakes, belts, maintenance. They traded for a new 2016 F53, six speed night and day better than the 2000. A DP weighs in at 30K lbs and up. I’m parked next a Winnebago Tour, a 43’ monster. I looked it up and it’s over 50K lbs. Pull off on the shoulder in THAT and see what happens. A DP drives way better. It’s quieter, engine braking downhill is great. I rarely use my foot brake. When new, maintenance amounts to annual oil and lube. Wait till they get older like my 2005 and things start breaking. Everything costs way more. Finding places that work on DPs is easy. Finding GOOD places to work on them is another story. Expect to pay $125/hr AND UP for labor. I’ve had two ride ht valves replaced $400 a pop, belts and tensioner $600. A high pressure pump failure can costs thousands.

RE: 2006 Fleetwood Providence 39L

Pretty sure it is electric Power Gear. Lights and slide motor no power sounds electrical. Batteries good? Engine running?

RE: The big purchase

The 2016 got the six speed trans with hill engine braking.

RE: LED light bulbs not working when installed in slideout

That would be my guess. Try installing them using a mirror. Might fool them. There are flat panel leds that allow you to change polarity by flipping the plug.

RE: Water Spigot / Thread Issues On Sites

I think it happens when the backflow preventer is taken off without loosening the set screw. Just guessing.

RE: Dish Hopper 3

Absolutely. If your account is an RV type their app will let you change it on a smart phone. You can also reauthorize a sat box. DISH is way easier to deal with than DTV when it comes to RVS. What I don’t know about is which LNB you need on a Travler to work with a a Hopper. But m pretty sure it can be done. Hopefully Bill will check in.

RE: Disconnect load before stopping generator?

After you have to replace a rotor at $1000 just for the part made a believer out of me. I shut off the ACs before unplugging too.

RE: DISH Network: Which Dish?

The only one I know of that gets both arcs is a Winegard Pathway X2. The Wally or any 211 gives you a menu and you select which arc you want and away she goes. It supports two TVs but the second tv can only watch channels on the sat the primary tv is tuned to. The dish only gets one sat at a time. I would buy it again in a heartbeat. BTW DISH is way easier to deal with and are happy to change locals daily if wanted.

RE: Angry wannabe RV police encounter

I got the RV police comment; eg weight police. A holes are out there. I was on a two lane county road with construction and the traffic was bumper to bumper as far as you could see rolling along 20-30 mph with lots of brake tapping. I like to leave a 5-10 car length gap so I’m not constantly not using the service brakes. This moe ron passes me double yellow line honking and shaking his fist flipping the bird passing me like I caused the backup.

RE: Norcold settlement

What settlement? There was a class action suit for all the premature failures and those pesky fires. My 1200 got me $1200 back which bought me an Amish made unit.

RE: Signal strength for phone meter

Diags mode on the phone gives you dB reading. I don’t mess with that. Google speed test and run that before and after. I have a Weboost RV amp. When you’re in the one bar service area the speed test will typically report under 1 MBs. Plug in the power and retest and now measure 5-10 Mbs.

RE: DISH loss of signal

How do you get the signal to the satelite? There is no cable going from the ground to the bird, nobody goes up there to slide another disc in. There are ground stations to feed the data to the bird, that is the uplink. It is subject to the same problems as the receiving end. Tom Sats have an uplink that feeds them but it has nothing to do with the dish we use to watch content on a tv.

RE: Water hose storage??

I used a product called Cord Pro, often sold at RV shows. Now on Amazon. They stack or hang on a hook. I switched to the orange plastic ext cord reels at Lowe’s. Thy come various sizes and I think they work better for 25’ hoses. Great for co ax too for the carryout dish. BTW Walmart carries a blue hose that is a pretty good hose. Stainless steel fittings no kink. A little stiff but a good hose.
