RE: RV satellite

Another vote for the Pathway X2. It also has a bigger dish which works better in the rain.

RE: Hopper receiver with hitchhiker dish

The Vip211z is the most versatile receiver Dish around right now. You should be able to find on Craig's List for under $40. You can add an external hard drive and make it into a DVR (there's $40 lifetime charge to enable that feature but you may be able to get Dish to comp that cost). It tunes Over The Air (OTA) channels and can put those shows on the DVR too. It has outputs for component video, RF coax and HDMI. I've got one at the house and keep another on the MH ($7/month) - bought them both off CL. I bought a Wally only to find out the only output is one HDMI port, the OTA tuner must be purchased separately ($$$) and an external HD is still required to make it a DVR receiver. I searched but couldn't find anything on a "hitchhiker" antenna. I think you mean 211K not Z. I have a Z and it does not have a built in OTA tuner and it only has one hdmi. The K has the features you mention.

RE: Michelin kaboom!

Goodyear’s are my never again tire. Two blowouts at five years. One was a quarter sized hole from an air bubble that enabled the steel sidewall to rust out. I’ve never lost a Michelin.

RE: Hopper receiver with hitchhiker dish

You need a Wally or a 211z.

RE: Orangeburg,SC to Callahan,Fl via 301

It’s my go to route. Good roads, laid back. Avoids JAX. I’ll argue it’s slightly slower the interstate but one wreck on the interstate and your glad your on 301.

RE: Vent fans and a/c at the same time

It would suck cool air out. I’d just run a small fan pointing up.

RE: Florida in January

Florida State Parks are reserved thru Reserveamerica. I’d start right now to nail down some dates. Not contiguously but here and there Almost all state parks have electric and water and many have FHUs. Check county parks. Many are on manual system and are under the radar. John Prince in Palm Beach. Larry Penny Thompson near Miami. Hart Springs County Park has full hookups 50a and cheap. Lots of private campgrounds around Okeechobee.

RE: Tv antenna upgrade questions

The bomb doesn’t work with HDMI? I lost mine and use the tv to switch inputs. TV sound output to the surround sound.

RE: WiFi, and Cell Phone boosters and Internet antennas

Verizon has very good coverage all over the place. But they throttle if the towers are busy. You need an alternative too.

RE: WiFi, and Cell Phone boosters and Internet antennas

We spend summers away from Florida. We are avid internet users and my wife still works a day or so a week and needs good solid internet access for upload g and downloading pictures and large documents. It’s been an evolutionary process but here where we’re at and it seems to be working. Firstly, rarely is RV park free WiFi adequate. If you’re s standing next to an antenna and do a speed test and it’s slow, an WiFi antenna/booster won’t help. And I ain’t paying for Tengonet. We have Verizon iPhone 8’s which are pretty fast with a good tower signal BUT even with an so called unlimited plan, we ran into throttling issues which made downloading impossible. Weak signals are another issue. Someone here put up a post about OTRmobile. They offer unlimited, no throttling, data only service on ATT towers for $60/mo no contract. So if Verizon doesn’t cut it ATT might. So far its been solid. Now we address signal strength. I’m a cheapskate and I put off buying a Wilson Weboost RV for a year or so but finally broke down this spring and hit the bullet. What a difference!! Ignore the bars. I do speed tests. Even with a good signal the Weboost usually doubles the speed. So far it’s working.

RE: Help, need old a/c shroud replaced

Most RV service centers have lots of old shrouds. They will save one for you if they don’t.

RE: Generator started on its own

It’s been topiced in the forums before. There is a connector that is prone to getting moisture in it (it rained) that you unplug, dry out and then apply do-electric grease to.

RE: Florida turnpike or I-95??

The other problem with 95 is that there are people driving old junk trucks filled with scrap metal that can’t or won’t pay to drive on the turnpike. I’ve driven 95 a bunch in S Fl and it’s exciting to change lanes to pass a semi and find an innerspring mattress in the road.

RE: Using Dryer's NEMA 14-30 outlet for RV shore power

I have a 50A recep powered by a 30 A duplex breaker. Works great. Nobody ever gets close to 30A per side. That's what I was figuring. (We only have a single A/C unit) Do you have a dedicated circuit or did you scab off your dryer circuit like I'm suggesting above? It was existing in the house we bought a few years ago. Kind of a cluge. The breakers were added to the outside main panel to power a four wire 30A recep as a poor mans genset feed to the house for extended power outages. Florida-man did it. I changed the recep as it’s exactly where I keep the RV.

RE: smaller pull behind - single axle VS tandem axle ??

Single axel trailers usually have a heavier rated axel. My dad and uncle had 70s Airstreams. Identical layout but my uncles was a foot longer, had a double sink. His was a tandem while dads was a single but dad’s had bigger rims And way bigger brakes. The single will back up much easier. CCC is definitely a concern.

RE: Your Grandfather's B

I be the grandfather I reckon. That van has long taillights so 72 or newer. I had a 1960 VW, a 1972 VW campmobile new, a 1963 Ford window van, an 1984 diesel high top GMC conversion and a 1978 Ford E350 with a 460.

RE: Tow dolly empty - 1500 miles

Talking from experience not guessing. Ballast makes a big difference. Lowering the tire pressure to 10-15 takes a lot of the bouncing out. I have towed empty dollies back and forth between Fl and Ohio several times. Henny penny comes to mind.

RE: I-77 to I-26 to I-95 - Carolinas, Georgia to Florida

I’d be wary of the hundreds of thousands of people that evacuated on 26 and 95. They are going to be returning in the next few days. We often get off 26 at US 301 to go into Fl.
