RE: Portable Satellite Antenna

I’ve had both and I like DISH better. They are more RV friendly. You can change locals daily if you want. You can reauthorize your sat box from your phone. I use a Pathway X2. Works great. You can’t use a Hopper and Joey tho. I use a 211z. You can also use a Wally.

RE: why only one page of posts?

The site is slowly dying. Over moderated. Changing demographics. Other platforms eg Facebook, etc. No smartphone app. No easy photo facility. IMHO.

RE: enameled dutch ovens

I have a Lodge porcelain coated. It works fine on an induction burner. You need to make sure there isn’t a ridge on the bottom.

RE: Directv or Dish?

I’ve had both. I’m a DISH fan now. They are much more RV friendly. I have a roof dome that I haven’t used in years. I have a Winegard Pathway X2. ISO many places we stay have trees so the Pathway allows you to put it where it can get a signal. DISH also has a set of sats called the eastern arc and the western arc which are in different aee red as of the sky. You can pick which set based trees etc. DISH lets you change locals as you move around. Daily if you want. Their app lets you reauthorize you sat box without calling. No carryout gets HD on Directv. Not a problem with DISH.

RE: Dual pane windows....

I wouldn’t consider an RV without dual pane windows. I have had both. The noise and condensation alone make it worth it. All the failures you hear about are almost always SEGI (bankrupt) in the 2000s. They had a near 100% failure rate and almost everybody used them except higher end brands.

RE: Side windows are fogged up

My windows that Suncoast Designs repaired five years ago are still fine. They come with a transferable ten year warranty. I can’t imagine single pane is cheaper than repairing the dual pane. I’ve had both and dual pane is much better. Quieter and insulated better no condensation.

RE: Unfair Reservation System?

Or if you can’t beat em join em. Rent a month and go back and forth on weekends.

RE: Unfair Reservation System?

I feel your pain. But they probably got tired of seeing a bunch of empty spots on weekends and people complaining they wants weeks and months and not just a weekend. We have Reserveamerica in Florida which I hate. And one reason is they let weekends book up 11 months in advance. So we can try for a week or two and there are no weekends only weekdays open.

RE: 20 year old hoses

I was at Freightliner Gaffney this summer for belts and valve lash on my 05. Factory hoses. I asked them to check the hoses and advise and he told me they were fine. They squeeze them and check for cracks. If they’re still soft, flexible and no cracks leave them. Buying replacements might not be a bad idea.

RE: replacement for Directv

You can not use a Hopper with the Winegard Pathway. I tried using the Hopper and a Joey with a tripod and the correct LNB but it was too big of a pain to take the Hopper, Joey and Access point out to the rv. Not to mention DISH boxes have a slow meter so it was a pain to align the dish. Now I just leave them at home to grind away downloading shows and use the Pathway. I hope someday Winegard or someone comes out with an auto align dome that works with a Hopper.

RE: Side windows are fogged up

Sun last Design in Hudson FL did mine. A few hundred per window. You can ship the windows to them.

RE: Harvest Host

The 1-2 nite max was a no no for us. We rarely stay less than 2-3.

RE: Alternative satellite option?

DISH has two sets of sats; the eastern arc is in the southeast southern sky any higher up and western arc is in the southwest sky. With an augmented reality sat location app on a smart phone you can “see” the sats and move around until one of the sets of sats is clear. I set my Pathway up there. I almost always can get sats. It just takes a small hole. I agree rooftop sat dishes are nearly useless. I haven’t used mine in years.

RE: Alternative satellite option?

Another vote for a Winegard Pathway X2 and a DISH Wally. Hook it up and you’re done.

RE: health insurance

I can get medicare when i reach 65 through my state run pension plan, its call ed the connector, they will subsidize my premiums but at what % is still unknown. Medicare and SS aren’t tied together. Also you will still need a supplemental policy to pick up what SS doesn’t cover.

RE: fridge removal and replacement

I replaced the cooling unit with an Amish made unit so no removal necessary. Works better than a new one.

RE: health insurance

We were self employed for decades. Health insurance is one hot mess in the US. We are now on Medicare but before we turned 65, we were paying over $2000/mo and had high deductibles so most years add on another $3-5K out of pocket. What don’t you qualify for Medicare? If you need more contribution go back to work. If you have the income bite the bullet. If not, work until your 65.
