RE: Denver and surrounding areas

If you’re looking at State Parks, you HAVE TO reserve 6 months to the day in advance. Otherwise good luck. Cherry Creek and Chatfield are your best options close to Centennial.

RE: DEF fluid

DEF is DEF. I don't spend more for the Blue. I either get it from Walmart, or from the pumps at a truck stop (I like Maverick). If you buy it at Walmart (or anywhere) I'd look for the expiration label. From what I have read, expired DEF won't hurt your engine, but you will use more.

Echoing the chorus of don’t trust the sensors. They are never accurate. When I had the pyramid of poo I used rid-x.

RE: 2024 Chevy HD DRW and SRW Fuel Economy Test

And at the end of the day it actually matters, why? You drive the speed and style that you drive and unless you’re already drivin miss daisy, you drive slower if you want to use less fuel. And you drive faster if you don’t care and want to get there sooner. Because you want to know if driving miss daisy is saving you enough money to make the extra time, aggravation, and road rage incidents worth it. If it's only saving you $10/month, stomp on the skinny pedal and keep up with traffic. This seems pretty reasonable to me. I’ve bumped up my towing speed as the trade off of MPG vs MPH is worth it for me after I calculated it.

RE: 2024 Chevy HD DRW and SRW Fuel Economy Test

What really burns my arse is when I come over a hill with 115,000 lbs in tow to find a flipping Tesla putzing along at 80 kph in the slow lane on a busy 110 kph highway. What do you do? There's people doing 125 in the fast lane so getting over to the left is not going to work; Could slam on the brakes and burn three weeks wages off the brake linings and another days wages of diesel lugging the load back up the hill trying to get back to speed if you ever get a chance to get around the pesky savior of mother earth. I could just come flying up behind the cursed Tesla with the air horn blaring knowing full well it is capable of hitting 80 mph in about 1/2 of second. I could pass her on the right hand shoulder and hopefully teach her a lesson. I guess I should be more sympathetic ... after all she needs to make it from Edmonton to Calgary on one a single charge so she's only doing what she's got to do. I think you need a snickers…..

RE: Wireless bluetooth thermometers?

Well, Thank you all for the suggestions and clarifications on what I actually need. I just ordered the Waggle lite thermometer on Amazon Prime. Paid $129.99 and its scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I'll check back after our trip next week with how well it worked. Thanks again. FWIW, Walmart has them on sale for $99.

^^^ That is impressive but I have no idea how to so and don't want or care to understand how to do so. ^^^ Fill to top. Next time fill to top. Now divide my gallons into miles = GOLDEN Download the Fuelly app. Really couldn’t be any easier.

RE: 2023 F350 6.7 HO Towing 10k lb Review

I don’t know what the threshold for temps that will damage gaskets/fluids/transmission is, but it certainly is FAR north of 200*. The only vehicle I’ve driven that kept temps well below 200* is my 2023 RAM/Aisin. All others saw 200 regularly. My 2022 Grand Cherokee was at 196 yesterday in the city and my 2019 Expedition was at 205 this afternoon. I can probably show a 230 photo next week after pulling my boat through the Colorado mountains. https://i.imgur.com/4gAgrtYl.jpg

RE: 2023 F350 6.7 HO Towing 10k lb Review

My 68RFE regularly saw temps above 200*. 220* was pretty common for me. Must be that Amsoil fluid that keeps yours so cool. You mean this Amsoil fluid and his aftermarket finned oil pan. We know all about it. :B https://i.imgur.com/tSWA7dRl.jpg Must have been very impressed to save that pic! Or he forgot it was a simple gasket that failed, like many do at times before the REST of the unit fails! Marty Isn’t that a phot or the pan on his 68RFE? Back when he considered that a great transmission?

RE: Dodge 3500 towing heavy

I bought a 2003 brand new in December of 2002. Mine was a short bed with the HO engine and the NV5600 manual. Kept it for about 10 years and around 110,000 miles. I never had trouble with the engine or tranny (or really anything with it). My usual load was the trailer I still have today (12,000 pounds) with my 5500 pound boat towed in tandem. I did add a Smarty Jr and a Jacobs exhaust brake. That truck was great. I think with the tuner it was actually stronger than my 2012. https://i.imgur.com/7R0z4Itl.jpg

RE: Air ride pin box question

Interesting. I haven’t had the same luck. I’m ready to replace the Schrader valve to see if that helps.

RE: 2023 F350 6.7 HO Towing 10k lb Review

Nice ford fanboi video. Yeah, completely objective with a whopping 5000 views so far. I’m sure it’s a nice truck but I’d love to see a real calculation of that grade. It doesn’t look like 6%. Couple other observations. He mentioned at the beginning of the video that the DTE changes when a trailer is hooked up. Anyone know how that is calculated? I can do it on my expedition and last time I did, DTE went up with it in the towing setting. That doesn’t make sense to me. On the transmission temps, is there anywhere published that shows what normal operating temps are? I know my ZF8HP runs above 200 solo. I saw 230* towing with my expedition in the rolling hills on I25 in Wyoming. I just don’t think that 224* that showed during the review is anything to worry about.

Why would the amount of psi effect the air bleeding out?

RE: Air ride pin box question

I have had the same trailer since new - back in 2002. Probably 10 years ago I added a Trail Air to it. My experience is it was a waste of $. I added it to try to smooth out some chucking when I tow my boat in tandem, and I notice no difference in performance before adding it vs after. Hitching up is the same as before. Unhitching can be a pain as it does change the angle. It was bad with both a Superglide in my short bed and a Reese elite. To unhitch, I’d have to lower the landing gear, take weight off the hitch, get back in the truck and let it back up just a touch, then it would release. I’m now using an Anderson hitch with my new truck and I no longer have the issue I had with the prior two hitches. My experience is I’d not buy this again. Maybe a true air hitch works better. This one was a waste.

RE: 2023 Power Stroke vs 2023 Ram Cummins Towing Challenge

The video that the troller posted originally has nothing to do with the HO engine and the Aisin transmission. It’s the old 68RFE that can’t handle the high output. So, without question, a 2500 would perform better with a different transmission (preferably with 8 or 10 gears) that can handle more HP and TQ. And if we’re making requests, let’s do a ZF since they are one of the best. And no, I don’t care even a little if the transmission is outsourced.
