RE: Why is the Hemi Going Away

I really like the Hemi. Have owned many, currently have one in my Grand Cherokee L. But if the Hurricane was available in the GCL I’d choose it over the Hemi. The driving characteristics of forced induction are just better in my opinion.
But the MPG is not. What does the Hurricane in the Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer get, 1 MPG better than the Hemi?
If Chrysler wants to get away from the fines, they will need to do more than transition from the Hemi
And to the comment about the Tesla displacing whatever Toyota as “best selling car”, their sales are still a fraction of what any of the Big 3 sell in trucks…..

Add me to the list of always plugged in. We turn our fridge on in April/May, load it, and leave it on into October.

RE: Black Tank Treatments - Yay or Nay?

Maybe you can tell that to the states who get their water from the Colorado River. The same ones who just had to hammer out a new agreement on water usage with a lot of cuts.
While your claim may or may not be true, this planet has never been host to so many humans who use water without thinking of the consequences.
OMG.......
"After reading about various water shortages across the country, I'm perfectly happy with using a probiotic in the tank and conserving water."
You do understand that the amount of water on this planet has NEVER changed??????
Best go back to the Cave.
YES it's true.
Not sure how you can be serious about that statement Cummins. The comment about population growth and drought (especially in the US Southwest and Colorado river drainage) are spot on.
Or you can bury your head in the sand and not acknowledge the fact of a 20 year drought.

RE: Curts Q24 head with 24k slider

I've no experience with the Curt, but just thought I'd mention to have him look on FB marketplace. Lots of FW hitches listed in my area, all brands, but many for Ford pucks.
Jerry
Great advice. You can pick a hitch up for 1/3 price there.

RE: Gilette, WY to Idaho Falls

If you want scenic and are not pressed for time you could do US 40 through Steamboat Springs, over Berthoud Pass and connect to I70 and into Denver. That would be more scenic than I80

RE: Gilette, WY to Idaho Falls

Driving in and around SLC. I would be sure to plan on driving through that area in the early am before rush or after 8pm. Traffic is a challenge. I love the views, love the area, HATE the traffic and bone jarring roads. Especially in an RV.
He’d miss SLC. Cut off on 84 in Ogden across to 80.
I’m in salt lake every month. It’s all relative but I think the traffic isn’t bad and the roads are very good. But everyone has an opinion.

RE: 2023 Super Duty 6.7PSD HO Review

But hey let's not forget Ford has nice mirrors and the oil filter is easier to change. ;)
I’m still getting used to the mirrors on my 23……
The cameras it has are WAY better than any mirror anyway.

Kudos for following through. It’s still more weight than I personally would want to regularly wrestle with. But life always has trade offs.

I thought I was seeing a picture of my garage with your setup , same thing I did . It's kind of obsolete now , got rid of the that heavy manual slider I had for years ,and went to the Andersen . No more taking hitches apart , greasing , etc. Live has been much easier .
I'm sorry but that B&W comes apart to make two VERY MANAGEABLE pcs. I'm 65 and can easily lift each pc with one hand. I think people need toys for their implements.

RE: F150 5.0 V8 or V6 Twin Turbo

If you search the internet, you will find problems with absolutely everything out there.
We have a 3.5 in our 2019 Ex Max. There is no turbo lag in our engine. Tons of power. It does get very hot towing our 7000 pound boat over the Rockies. And has the Cam Phaser issue which I’ll address some time this summer.
The other problem we had with this is the rear axle needed replaced last summer and it took 2 months. I’ve not heard of any similar issues on the axle.
Not sure if he eager to grab one of these with high miles. But I don’t know if I’d want any vehicle second hand with that high of miles.

RE: B&W Companion hitch removal

If only there was a better option. Say, a hitch rated to tow as much or more, and be so light a child could pick it up. Sure would be nice for those folks who aren’t full timers and want to use their truck bed…..

RE: tow with all wheel drive?

2007-2014 6.2L equipped Yukon Denalis have a different 4WD/AWD system than all the others with part time transfer cases. Anyway, reliability has been great for both types.
I had a 2011 Yukon Denali XL. It was AWD, and I don’t remember it having a 4 Low setting.
Used it to tow my 7000 pound boat, and other than the tranny getting very hot over the Rockies, it was fine.
My 2022 Grand Cherokee L is full time 4x4 and has a 7200 pound towing capacity.
So I would say two things. First, yes AWD vehicles are fine for towing. And yes some full size GM SUVs were AWD.

RE: When impatience hurts!

Well there are couple things he could have done different that don't cause any drama:
1. Don't even be in the left lane passing and likely speeding to do so.
So how do you recommend he overtake the slower truck?
I’m not saying this wasn’t the motorhomes fault, but my answer to you is for the truck to slow down slightly and stay behind in the right lane. All two often you get one truck going 1 MPH faster than another, trying to pass, and hanging in the left lane for miles. This causes traffic to back up and for road rage to happen.
Yes, the video shows the truck in the left lane overtaking the truck in the right, but it certainly wasn’t at a very rapid pace. The delta between speeds seemed pretty small.

RE: No more training wheels

Congratulations on the new truck; it looks like a beauty! I would be a bit worried if I could say no after trying out a new one too. :B How does the fuel economy compare to your last truck?
Was it the DPF that you could not get for your 2012? I am still running stock emissions at this point, but there is no emissions testing in my area (for now at least) so I would probably delete if I had issues.
Thank you for your detailed post and experience. I totally agree with a DRW being much more stable when towing after having towed the same trailer with both a SRW and DRW. As long as I have a large fiver I will definitely have a DRW.
I intentionally stayed away from a dealer just because I didn’t want to be tempted. When the fuel pump went out on my truck last year a buddy let me borrow his loaded Brand X and it really didn’t get me excited. Was nice but not what I wanted. This truck is just different for me (maybe part of that is rationalizing such a large purchase).
I think the MPG is going to be a fair amount better. My 2012 wasn’t good. 14 mpg solo is about all I ever saw. Towing my 5er and sometimes my fishing boat at around 70 it would get 8ish. Towing my surf boat it would get 8 at around 80 MPH.
I have about 3000 miles on the truck now, all of that towing the RV through Colorado/WY/ID/OR at speeds between 75-80 (I don’t like to tow the RV that fast but t needing to do 1500 miles on a day and a half forces your hand). It got around 9 MPG doing that except when I was bucking a wind and then it was 7.
My problem was the truck needed something with the cat. If I lived somewhere that didn’t have emissions testing I would have cut it off the truck and would still be driving it.

RE: May have towed too much weight

Does the Pilot have a tranny temp gauge? If so, did you watch it.
If you truly are towing within its rated capacity, and the Pilot is new, any trouble should be an issue for your warranty, not you.

RE: Will Air bags make a big difference?

Not enough hitch weight? That is typical of the issues you mentioned in my experience.
MartyI'm not sure what you mean. Could you elaborate? Here are the specs for the trailer:
Trailer Specs
Hitch Weight 663 lbs
GVWR 9463 lbs
Dry Weight 5777 lbs
Cargo Capacity 3212 lbs
Vehicle Specs
4WD:
Double Cab, 5.8 V8
9600 lbs / 4354 kgs – 5.3L (3.42 axle)
Thanks!
Where are you getting these values from? If you have less than 700 pounds of tongue weight on a nearly 10,000 pound trailer, that could cause your issues.
Got the trailer specs from Google, and the truck specs from the GM build sheet for my vehicle. The trailer weight is 5777, but I probably have around 2000 lbs cargo on it.
First, I wouldn’t trust google for the weights. You really should find a CAT scale and see what weights you really have, total, and tongue weight.
2000 pounds is a lot of cargo to have on board. I’m assuming that is an estimate as well, but if you have that much weight somehow behind the rear axle it will unload the tongue weight of the trailer and could cause your problems.

Good lord, you B&W fanbois need to take off your blinders once in a while….
It must REALLY kill you that the Andersen is rated for more weight than equivalent B&W.

Such a pretty hitch
https://i.imgur.com/pEX8Pajl.jpg
FYI your very thin bed is supporting the fore and aft movement of the hitch.
B&W years ago with their original Companion had that issue and they re designed it to support at the bottom of the corrugation that is solid to the cross member and then to the frame.
Where are your safety chain attachments?
Since when does a fifth wheel need safety chains?
