RE: Tire and load/level question.

McGauhys makes a 2" lowering shackle for the back of your truck. Less than $100 do at home fix. I've done this to my last 2 Chevys. Sits nearly level empty after this change. Best part is this doesn't raise the center of gravity of your trailer and doesn't increase strain on the trailer suspension. McGauhys Shackles

RE: Slide-out Maintenance

Do not use any lube that remains wet or damp or will hold dirt and grit. Sand and grit will wear the steel or cast gears out quickly.

RE: Hwy 145 Co

According to CODOT's Facebook, alternating lanes should be open tomorrow (5/29). CDOT

RE: Broken/ leaking exhaust manifold bolts

Exhaust systems and sewer systems are 2 things I won't mess with. Neither ever go well. Leave it to a professional.

RE: Missouri 160 to Branson

You would be better to move a little north to US 60. 160 is mostly (all) 2 lane blacktop with little or no shoulder. Curvy in places as you near the western end towards Branson. US60 is a great road.

This thread is as entertaining as an "OIL" thread.

RE: ? For mbrs that have a gravel pad

Our pad is gravel but I put down some concrete "pavers" where the tires and jacks set. Best of both worlds IMHO.

RE: Fridge only works on 120AC

Bet your new frig works better. Your old one is done. Either a replacement of the cooling unit or replace the entire frig. I suggest complete replacement as the newer ones are better insulated and are fully automatic. Of course, a residential type is also an option if you never camp without 120 VAC.

Camper Design, What Were They Thinking?

I had a call from a friend yesterday to help him with his Cougar 5th wheel. They bought it last fall from CW and have had it in storage this past winter. Moved it to their house to pack and get ready for the season and low and behold, one of the slides wouldn't extend and he was at a loss. Turns out it was just jammed in and the LCI slide mechanism would only ratchet. I though, easy fix, just turn it out a little using manual operation. WRONG! No wrench nor opening for the wrench. Turns out, to probably save $5, Cougar did not supply anything to operate it manually. CW told him to cut an "access" hole in the under skin to find the motor and use a ratchet wrench to extend the slide. WTH? We ended up putting a wrench on the square drive shaft between the rack gears, applying a little torque while he hit the button. It came free and works normally now. I find it flabbergasting that they did not supply any manual operation provisions. End of rant.

RE: Durango campground?

Measuring on Google Earth it would appear that some of the sites are 50 to 60 feet long.

RE: Durango campground?

We have stayed at the old KOA north a couple of time. Last time 3 years ago. Nice campground and they have cabins adjacent the river plus access to the river if you are in a camper.

I put a variable speed control on ours. DW loves it and it still moves all the air that is needed. Speed Control

RE: What's your stick(est) wicket?

1991, going over Wolf Creek pass, west to east. Decided to pull into the scenic overlook located on one of the hair pin turns on the west side of the pass to enjoy the view. Now here in the mid-west, most scenic overlooks are a loop around the parking area. Not this one. Drive in with parking on one side only. My issue was we were in a long bed, extended cab truck with a 5th wheel. Fortunately the trailer was only 24 feet or so. No way to back out onto the highway due to heavy traffic. Soooo, I spent about 15 minutes see-sawing that thing back and forth to get turned around in a parking lot that was maybe 40 feet across in those days. At one time I had the bumper of the trailer into the dirt on the mountain side and the front tire of the truck on the sidewalk. Was so thankful for the long bed (not many sliders back then) so I could get the sharp turn angle. Still I felt somewhat lucky that there was only 2 other cars in the parking lot to dodge. Lesson learned, LOOK before you leap.
