RE: Living full time on my land in Plumas or Lassen County

HMMMMM...Homeless people are living all over Cali and not in RV parks. I'm thinking that a properly installed metal cover would be suffice to park a trailer under. Wait until you apply for a building permit---you might not be able to afford a home. Been there, applied for a permit, gasped at the cost, left the state, been happy ever since. Really happy. Good luck.

Interstate highway conditions

After traveling from North Idaho to Florida towing our trailer---I have to say the Interstate highway system is horrible! Dwight Eisenhower would be ashamed of the way our states and federal governments have allowed the roads to deteriorate. Possibly our politicians could pay more attention to the needs of our country then their private addenda's. O.K. I'm done with my rant. Now I'm heading out to put the cabinet contents back. See ya out there----

RE: Hwy 442 Gatlinburg

Thank you. When I saw the tunnels on GE, I wondered. Thanks again..

Hwy 442 Gatlinburg

Hwy 441 -- is it a RV friendly highway for a travel trailer? We're looking for a route from Ashville towards Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area. Hoping the weather calms down, my hair gets messed up in the wind! Thanks...

RE: Oklahoma Turnpike info

Well, I did some digging around----in 2012, Congress passed a bill to have all the toll roads accept one pass. This was to be implemented by 2016. This was extended 4 years. The various agencies involved apparently can't let go of the power they each have, so the "law" passed to bring all us commoners an easy way to travel has just been forgotten about. If a cell phone caller can find my phone anywhere in the U S from anywhere in the U S, it seems a transponder attached to a windshield shouldn't be a big deal. O.K. I'm done with my rant.

RE: Oklahoma Turnpike info

If I-35 is a toll in Kansas, do you have a name and does it accept EZ Pass?

Oklahoma Turnpike info

Is Highway 35 south of Oklahoma a turnpike? If so, what is the name? A route we're exploring is from Salina to Denton but things have changed in Oklahoma city since my last trip through the area. Thanks all....

RE: Rocket launch.

IF you can get onto the base, spend the money! We watched one of the night shuttle shots from the the causeway and what a thrill. We also were at the Space Park (with about 100,000 of our friends) to see Musk launch his Tesla and then see the two fuel cells land back on the Cape. These events make one feel pretty small. Also, if you can, check into a day on the Cape for tours and lunch with the moon rocket. It's been years, but I'm sure they still have attractions to see and do. We have family in central Florida that we visit (free food and sleeping) so we've been able to see about a dozen launches up close and from a few miles away. Enjoy!!

RE: Blue Ridge Parkway info??

Aw Shucks, thanks for the compliment. We don't mind parking the rig and just driving the truck to see the sights. From what I researched, there is so much to see and do that we wondered if a certain area might be better to find an RV park and do a "hub and spoke." Thanks all...

Blue Ridge Parkway info??

Hey, after searching the web (where all the sites want you to sign in or log on), I thought----why not ask fellow RVers? IF a fellow was thinking about the Blue Ridge Parkway--what, where, and how should an RVer plan this? Where to stay? Which end of the road has the most bang for the buck? I know there are a lot of you that have done this trip-can you help me out?? Thanks..

RE: RV Roof Tape

The salesman might not even own a RV, much less really know much about a product he sells. Tread with caution when dealing with sales people.

RE: Ideas to carry spare and bikes

IF I am reading this right---this rack is for the rear of a travel trailer? If so, would it cause a sway issue due to weight transfer from the hitch to the back. Not saying this was the cause, but the folks that crashed on the bridge in Idaho had some weight on the rear fold down bumper that might have contributed somewhat.

RE: Rear Kitchen - good idea or bad idea?

Two travel trailers and one fifth wheel with rear kitchens. One time the silverware drawer swapped a couple items, but no issues. That is after tens of thousands of miles. Buy the unit you like. The sales person is just that---SALES!

RE: Safety chains save couples lives

Whatever happened, I'm certain it wasn't on purpose. These travelers are probably the most lucky people on earth. Now---I actually wonder what this couple talked about while awaiting rescue. Kudos to the semi driver that anchored the pickup to his rig and a BIG tip of a hat to the rescue guys!!!

RE: toll charges

Thanks---I found the site to calculate the fees. From what I've seen, this might be an alternative for travel south. We don't have toll roads here in the frozen North Idaho area, so I'm not familiar with how they work. Our roads are "paved - unpaved." Also, from what I've gathered, the toll roads around the U.S. don't have a real agreement for a pass that can be used freely across the states. Maybe Congress could address issues like this, but I'm sure they have more "important" things to do. Thanks again........

toll charges

The Indian Nation toll road---what would be the charge for a travel trailer/tow vehicle from Henryetta to Hugo? I've never heard of this route before. Thanks...

RE: Western Washington to Nashville

A couple years ago, a friend and I drove from Portland to Savannah. I-84, I-5 to I-80 east....Easy peasy. Stop at the original Cabalas. For a real odd stop, on I-80, take exit 29 for Dix NB -turn right at the stop sign, drive 100 yards, then turn right again toward a large chain link fence that houses a real active missile silo! Yep, the real thing, just sitting there. Your tax dollars at work protecting us. Not really much to look at, but just strangely eerie. Note that you will be on camera, so comb your hair.
