Garmin-good, Rand McNally-bad. Ask me how I know.

RE: Built in vs. Stand-alone GPS?

Which ever way you decide to go, just stay away from Rand McNally. They have zero customer service if you have a problem, and eventually you will. Mine worked great for a few years, then lost the turn by turn directions ( and I find it hard to constantly look at the screen while driving ) and there was no help from RM.

RE: RVND 7710 GPS No More Maps

Agree, RVND support is non existent. Had problems with mine losing the turn by turn instructions. After contacting RM several times, in many formats, I have given up. Spent nearly $400 and it seems RM just wants more. That is what they want me to do now, which is buy another unit. NOT GOING TO DO IT. I also reminded them, I will talk anyone considering one, out of buying one if I can, hopefully, you do the same.

RE: Battery storage

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I felt it was OK to do what I wanted, but now feel better doing it. Also learned about full charge prior to hooking up.

Battery storage

Storing 3 batteries for the winter. One is a deep cell for the trailer, and two are maintainability free from the truck. All are 12 volt. My question is, can I connect them all together, pos to pos and neg to neg, and put the battery tender on to keep all three charged?

RE: Novi MI RV Show

I would like to know what dealer that was, so I can stay away from them.

RE: Timing is important

My home park also, and I can get 18 channels OTA, maybe we have run into each other?

RE: How to value trade?

If your buying a new unit from the same dealer, your sitting in the driver seat. Just let them know you need more $ for your trade. They will come up maybe 2 more times. This was my experience when mine was traded in, got another $3000 over the first offer. Good Luck

RE: Rand McNally Trip Maker RVND 7710

My Rand Mcnally quit giving verbal turn by turn directions, and current speed on the screen. RM gives very little support, do you have any tricks to get it back? Tried resetting with button on the back, called RM, they keep you on hold all day, went through the tech service repair in the download, and after 2 months, still have the problem. Told RM my problem, and got no response.

RE: "Best" RV GPS Nav Systems

For what it's worth, I have a Rand McNally and am having trouble with it. RM doesn't seem to care, and can only suggest common re-sets, or sending in for repairs, at $100. No mention of guarantee. They are very hard to contact by phone, and customer service by E-Mail takes days for a response. I myself will NOT buy another RM, and told them so.

RE: So, how does Highland Ridge Open Range rank?

My advice is go to the Open Range owners forum and ask questions. My 2013 Open Range Roamer 5th wheel has been a great trailer. Mostly close trips, but have done a few west trips. Zero problems for us.

Rand Mcnally GPS

All of a sudden my RandMcnally GPS quit giving the verbal turn by turn instructions, and posted speed. Called just service, but they have a problem answering the phone. Sent them several E-Mails, and they have responded to most inquiries. Cannot get the unit to work properly from their suggestions, and am now waiting, going on 6 days, for a response to my last message. Do companies not care anymore? Do they think I'm just going to run to the store and buy another? Well if I do it won't be their brand.

RE: Electrical problem

Now you will have to check the 2 fuses on the front of the converter. Probably 30 amp.

RE: Port Huron, MI Border Crossing into Canada

We crossed into Canada from Port Huron last Oct, easy peasy. Matter of fact I cross from Detroit quite a bit and like Port Huron better.

RE: Should We Get A New Hitch?!

I have the pull rite auto slide, great hitch, never worry about it. The hitch actually comes out easy with the help of one person, or I can disassemble it, and pull it out myself in 15min or less.

RE: Disney World area campgrounds with shuttle to Disney

Try Lake Magic in Clermont. It is only about 20 min away from Disney. It is an Encore park and is on Hwy 192 just E of 27.

RE: Open Range Stabilizers

My Open Range came with a tool to do this. It looks like a large speed wrench. The end of the wrench looks like a socket with a notch cut out on the end. Open the door for the propane, and you will see an extended small rod with a shear pin look to it. The socket fits over this and you crank the handle, or spin the tool to raise or lower the landing gear.

RE: Sliding Hitch

As stated previously I have a pull rite auto slide, and am glad I have it. As far as paint on the hitch, spray some W-D40 on the way tubes prior to pulling the trailer. That's about it for daily use. Every year mine comes out of the truck for storage. Everything is cleaned and lubed at this time. Yes there are wear marks on the way tubes from use, but in 5 years there is no rust. Piece of mind, and one less thing to be concerned with, it's all well worth it to me. Oh yeah, being automatic does mean you do NOT get out of the truck to activate it, it's automatic.

RE: Open Range Warranty Service???

Go to the Open Range owners forum, ask who to get a hold of at the factory. You can call and explain your situation and they may be able to help. Also have heard Learch RV is very good even helping if it wasn't purchased from them.
