RE: Vaccinations

It is encouraging to hear some positive reports. It amazes me as to what some good news can do to elevate one's spirit. We are all in this together, stay safe.

RE: Vaccinations

Not as much positive information that I had hoped for. Maybe it is just too early in the role out to have us Snowbirds become that eligible for the vaccine. Hopefully things will improve soon. Stay safe.

RE: Vaccinations

My sister and brother in law are over 65 in Sarasota County Florida, and can't get on any list either. They are told no vaccines available. Apparently, according to my sister, they have basically frozen the list across Florida. Mike There are some interesting reads about production of the vaccine, and how the licensing and patents are, or can effect the production of the vaccine. https://reliefweb.int/report/world/pfizer-and-moderna-vaccines-can-only-be-scaled-globally-if-many-more-suppliers-can https://www.statnews.com/2020/12/11/covid19-vaccine-timeline-keeps-slipping-experts-say-it-will-change-again/

RE: Any one else giving up snow birding due to the covid

They are starting to test the chinese vaccine (CanSino) in Mexico. It always amazes me how hard it is to get news, as to how other countries are doing with the virus. Its like our news networks are afraid or embarrassed to report anything from other countries on the subject.

RE: Any one else giving up snow birding due to the covid

We always reserve our spot a year in advance, so when we left Florida last year at the end of March we were all set for this year. Our first thoughts early on were that things would not be too bad and the country would beat this thing. Then as it got worse it was, well the vaccine will be out and we will be OK. Now, that thinks are worse than ever, with no vaccine out yet, we are thinking that staying home might be the best for us. We have many people around us that have been careful and don't know how they got it. Scary stuff going on in Wisconsin.

RE: Traveling in Winter

Hotel use for the first few nights, I check on Google earth to make sure I have plenty of room for the motor home with tow car This is what we do too. It is so nice to walk into a warm motel room, instead of trying to set up a ice cold trailer with an even colder bed. We stay in areas with dining places within walking distances and select motels with warm continental breakfasts to have after a nice hot shower to start our day. We will have plenty of time to enjoy our trailer after we reach our destination.

RE: Servicing Wheel Bearings

Dexter does make a sealed bearing cartridge for some of their axles. Nev-R-Lube bearings don't need any maintenance during their lifetime. Mine are 12 years old, function like new, and have never been touched. They are not an aftermarket add. The axle has to be specified with the bearings. I was not aware of this option from Dexter. Do they give you a mileage life, as to when they need to be replaced?. Five year or 100,000 mile warranty. Inspection involves jacking the wheel off the ground and give it a spin and jiggle test. Tight and smooth then you are good to go. That's mighty impressive, given they want e-z lube bearings serviced every year or 3 to 4 thousand miles, which ever occurs first. The upgrade might be the way to go just for the peace of mind factor, even though greasing each year is no big deal. I guess the cost of the upgrade, also has to be considered before going that route.

Servicing Wheel Bearings

While servicing my trailer bearings I got to wondering why our cars and trucks don't have the same maintenance schedule. There is no difference in design or quality so why the big difference in mileage or time? Components are designed to carry a a specific weight. When is the last time you serviced your car bearings, never? Boat trailers I can understand because of possible water intrusion.

RE: Toilet Smells Horrific When Flushing

Exhaust venting needs to be done correctly to get it to draw upwards and through the roof and away from occupants. Incorrect modifications if not done correctly are going to cause big problems. Also, it is not unheard of to be restricted in some manner, especially if modified. An explanation of how he modified the venting might give insight to his problem, length, size of pipe, and angle?

RE: What is it you like about your Snowbird nest?

There are many places like you describe along the Colorado river in Arizona and California. In our younger years most of our summer vacations were to the north west all the way to the west coast and even to Alaska. Always too warm to head south in the summer. Love the Rockies.

What is it you like about your Snowbird nest?

The many posts about where to go, got me thinking about what I look for in a winter heaven. 1)- Weather- it has to be in mid 70's during the day. I don't like places were I have to hunt for shade, or have an umbrella to sit on the beach. 2} Fishing- I love to fish so, I have to be were I can catch dinner. 3)- Beach, Love the beach so I have to be somewhere where I can park after 10 or 11 and not fight for a spot. 4)- Traffic- Like to drive 55 or under without putting my life in danger going out. 5)- Restaurants Love a variety of places, close by, including fast food. 6)- Love small towns near by and larger ones still accessible within reason. 7)- We like larger campsites, no more Florida Keys for us. 8)- Campsites on the water or very near, a must. Jezzzz, I didn't think we were that Fussy, must be getting young.

RE: 2021-22 Florida and/or Arizona

You just have to remember the reason you have a RV is so you are not tied to one place, so there is no reason you can't travel and find out for yourself which places you enjoy. It took us almost 15 yrs to find the perfect spot and we are finally getting close to finding it. I think!

RE: Toilet Smells Horrific When Flushing

Think of what you have done by extending the vent with the extended tubing. You now have fresh air coming in from outside and exiting from your tank into your RV every time you flush your toilet. Venting needs to go almost straight up and threw the roof. Listen to others and either reroute the venting or get a inline fan to get a positive flow outside.

Are things ever going to get better?

I am already itching for the snowbird season to get here and we don't seem to be making any progress on this Covid thing. I keep hoping for some good news on the numbers, especially the area where we go, but to no avail. I know there are others who are suffering a much greater pain and I certainly understand the losses some have to bare, but when other countries are doing so much better than us, I am angry.

RE: What to use to level trailer while parked

I carry both the plastic and 2"x8"x4+'boards along with some plywood of varied thickness. After 7 years, I have yet to use the plastic blocks. Wood is faster to set up, and easier to clean, and works better on varied surfaces. We find most sites are fairly level these days. My plastic blocks are now taking up room on the shelf in the garage.

RE: Bike rack front vs rear

I have both front and rear with a camera. I prefer the front for keeping a much better eye on them.

RE: Covid 19 warning

Philh, "...if one gets a flu shot, they are 35% more likely to catch a Coronavirus." Now, I've spoken with my family doctor and my pharmacist with that same question, and they said no. In fact, they said that by decreasing the odds of getting the flu by taking the shot (my shot is a multi-strain flu shot), it may also help in not contracting Covid. The reason: The multi-strain shot has a SARS-related component in it. Of course, you can't be allergic to eggs. My appointment for the shot is set up for September. I have heard the same and may not just be this years shot, if you have been getting them annually you may have some resistance. I ave also heard the same thing about the BCG shot for TB. Who knows? Tequila, I was asking for the source of this information as I don't believe in the "I HEARD IT THEORY". There is just too much miss information out there with people drinking the cool aid and trying to sell the snake oil. I like to stick with the information which comes from the scientific community, that has been researched and documented. We are living in an age when fact checking and or resource information needs to be done for important things.
