RE: 50 amp to 30 amp dogbone

Options: 30/50 pigtail adapter widely available. Put a 50A female plug on a 30A cord. Lighest weight option. Put a 30A male plug on the 50A cord. In all 3 cases the 2 hot 50A wires are connected to the 30A hot wire.

RE: mixing batteriy sizes

Go for it! Use one at a time or connect all three together. What's to lose as they are older and used? Yes good idea to use new batteries differently but older used, try it and see. I'd probably use the one larger one and then the 2 smaller ones.

RE: Teton Pass

We meet a gorup of 6 RVs and 3 of them took advantage of that free coffee above!

X2 But very steep. In Wilson there is a sign "Free coffee while we repair your brakes",

RE: mixing batteriy sizes

The weaker batteries will cause a shorter life for the new battery. Given they are used per your other thread it's a good idea to load test all 3 to make sure they are in reasonable condition. Given that and they are available go ahead and use all 3.

RE: swapping and charging batteries

It's not clear when you saw 12.5 vs plugged it in, but if it was charging then the voltage doesn't reflect battery charge state. Regardles now that it has charged do a load test to determine the battery condition.

RE: Black Tank only holds 1/2 to 1/3 of capacity

Try a wand with a very directional and horizontal flow and rotate slowly. Use one of the cleaners and the wand to cause water movement. Let it sit and redo several times Another option is to come in from the drain, with appropiate funnels and hoses etc. When full insert a dowel in the toilet, make sure it bottoms, mark the floor height, measure the water and mark and see how that compares to the expected dimensions per the mfg or another owner. Also check when the tank is empty.

Use a flexible hose wand and flush for an extended time.

The primary purpose of the idiot light gauges is for the salesman to explain about the great monitor system. Why do you think it's full with 10 gallons? Fill with water and drive. Add bags of ice cubes and drive.

RE: Doris is Dead!

So glad for all of you. But please note that running 2 A/Cs on 30A can be questionable. Why? The NEC recommends a max of 80% to limit the heat or 24A for sustained operation and 2 AC's are sustained operation. And your family member issue likely contributed. But your dedication is fantastic and I admire you guys! Thanks for sharing.

RE: Doris is Dead!

For a discharged battery 20 min is just the start. It can take hours to get to 85% charged. Get the problem fixed, verify that everything is working and the charger is charging the batteries on shore power. When the batteries are fully charged it would be a good idea to load check them to determine their condition. An alternate is to buy a auto charger to tide you over on batteries, but won't help with the AC problem.

RE: Help! Lance 850 isn’t getting power from truck battery

Check for reverse polarity. Connect a long wire to the truck frame and measure the voltage in the camper. Ground should be 0V and positive 12V. Then using the same ground connection turn on lights and track down the 12V disconnect. l'd double check the ground again. A voltmeter will read OK with a high resistance connecton without a load because the voltmeter draws virtually no load.

RE: batteries dead

By dead you must mean partially discharged vs dead where the engine wouldn't run. 10 miles is rather short so the batteries must have been discharged before you left and unlikely to have significant charge but some upon return if everything is working. First fully charge the batteries now as otherwise their life is shortened. Next load check the batteries to be sure they are OK. Next use a voltmeter to determine that the alternator is OK and charging the batteries. Consider disconnecting the batteries when stored to prevent significant discharge for a number of months with good batteries.

RE: Doris is Dead!

And buy a household tester $10 and check every plug when he's done. True story: When I was doing the PDI for our current rig which was 2 years old the household tester showed a open ground on all of the kitchen slide outlets. The problem was a open ground in a junction box Monaco mfg did not connect. Prior owner wasn't aware.

RE: Doris is Dead!

Also and this is meant to be helpful: Electritcy can be dangerous and from your description 2 amatures have made electrical changes. Consider a good mobile tech to get everything right and up and running.

RE: Doris is Dead!

RV wire color standards don't exist. Yes there are conventions that may/may not be followed unlike homes with standards and inspections. The best way to know is to measure the voltage using frame ground as a reference. You could try the standard household tester and see if the 3 lights are correct. I'll bet a neighbor has one. But it sounds like you have a very small voltage leakage to the outlet which allows the voltmeter to register voltage but appliances don't work. Perhaps there is a tripped CB somewhere. I'd also guess that your charger doesn't have AC input and hence the batteries die. Did you fully turn off every CB and then fully back on? Are there any CBs on your inverter or charger or charger/inverter depending upon what you have? If so then the same on/off drill.

RE: Doris is Dead!

X2 on more info needed. Some thoughts: If you are on 30A best to run only 1 A/C as 2 can be marginal. 2 on the gen might be OK depending upon the gen capability. Your A/Cs etc may require 12V for control and hence with discharged batteries they don't work. Assuming you are not using the inverter I would hope that the batteries would last overnight without shore power. Suggest you have them load checked to determine their condition. Apparently you know the GFCIs were incorrectly replaced, suggest you leave that circuit off until corrected. Maybe your charger is on the GFCI circuit and hence dead batteries? Assuming road side assistance jumped the chassis battery how long did you drive or run the gen to get the house batteries charged - hours need for this. Hope some of this helps.

RE: Help! Lance 850 isn’t getting power from truck battery

Volt meter tests can be misleading because they virtually draw no amps. Test with a load.

RE: Help! Lance 850 isn’t getting power from truck battery

And a failure after a repair suggests to check the repair, don't assume the new connector is still OK. ie In particular the lights working is not the 12V charge line.

RE: Help! Lance 850 isn’t getting power from truck battery

OK on alternator but not battery suggests bad battery or connection. Load test the battery and test the voltage from the battery posts - (not the cable connection) to frame ground and battery post + to the 12V wire to the camper.
