RE: Canadian Snowbirds heading home-Antigen Rapid Tests required

Why do I think this is 2021 all over again? Isn' this thread all about Trudeau's ridiculous mandates? I agree with you, this thread has got way off track, let's as Moisheh suggests keep it about Canadians returning home and the silly mandates that Trudeau and Company want to push on all us Snowbirds.

RE: Canadian Snowbirds heading home-Antigen Rapid Tests required

Just in from our local paper here in New Brunswick ie Brunswick News. "All entering Canada are required after April 1st to wear a mask in public venues for 14 days." I can't Google this as nothing comes up and the paper blocks it from forwarding or copying by copy protected text. And there's penalties for not adhering to this but sorta boggles the mind how it will be enforced, oh well just another "control mechanism" Oh incidentally if you get COVID-19 you can return to work for the Federal or Provincial Government in Canada after self isolating for five (5) days...can this protocol get any more ridiculous? 14 days...control, control, control when will Canadians wake up, if this was the USA there would be riots! No way this kind of control would be even tried in the USA the pushback would be horrendous!

AriveCan is a nasty piece of code. It won't run on older Android devices. At Christmas time it would also not run on iphones. Silly requirement, it's all about control, the authorities just can't give that up, it diminishes their job responsibilities.

Rapid test gone April 1st when crossing into Canada....however.... ArriveCAN app still required....half a load is better than none! Reports: Canada planning to drop border testing requirement | Tri-City Herald https://www.tri-cityherald.com/news/state/washington/article259465749.html Passengers still could subject to random PCR testing at the airport and travelers will still have to use the ArriveCAN app to submit their proof of vaccination and other required information, according to CTV. Just got a text from an Insider says; "They are going to remove the testing on the border, maybe announced tomorrow." Hope he's right....we will see, didn't mention the silly app but if the test goes I imagine so goes the useless app.

RE: Canadian Snowbirds heading home-Antigen Rapid Tests required

Forget all this discussion about Data. Canada is closing our tourist industry for no apparent reason. The rapid test is not very accurate. As I stated previously if the border needs a rapid test then returning to your home province from a known area of Covid transmission should also need a rapid test. Of course that is ridiculous. But so is the requirement for a test at the border. A big hassle for Snowbirds. I agree with you totally, the Rapid Test at the border is absolutely useless, just another kind of control that is put in place to force you to "get in line" along with the ArriveCAN app..its even worse, totally totally unnecessary as it's mainly about your vaccination which you must have on you to cross the border both ways. As to the data, yeah enough, my only reason for it was to illustrate the change in the COVID-19 numbers, the USA was extremely high since the beginning but now if you believe the site I gave is much lower and in reality from observation is much lower...so to Federal Border Authority rules....drop this silly requirement and more to the point Rapid Tests are known to be very undependable anyway. If you truly believe in doing away with these protocols contact your MP, write him by email, it's easy they all have their email on their Government Site, more letters, more pressure, they will act.

Got mine from a very reliable source ie as shown in the last post or below; COVID Live - Coronavirus Statistics - Worldometer https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus From a recent article on ‘news’ sites; “Max Roser, a researcher at Oxford University and founder of Our World In Data, has expressed frustration at the site. He tweeted: “I’m annoyed by Worldometer because it wastes so much of my and my team’s time. For weeks we get messages of people asking why do we not show this or that – ‘Worldometer has the data’. And too often when you look into it, they provide no source or it is wrong.” He says the site has made mistakes in reporting test numbers, in its labelling of metrics, and confusion of case fatality rate with infection fatality rate. ” Oh, well if you can't trust John Hopkins and these recognized entities who can you trust...LOL BTW what's your source, please put in a link....if you can do that, if you need help just ask. RE: Canadian Snowbirds heading home-Antigen Rapid Tests required

The time to slam the border shut was 2 years ago. We didn't.I think the soon to be here peak of BA.2 will justify the border being shut. Hopefully it will pass by winter and I won't have to miss a third snowbirding trip. Not to worry.... https://www.cnbc.com/2022/03/15/is-omicron-subvariant-bapoint2-to-blame-for-rising-covid-cases.html Dr. Andrew Freedman, an academic covering infectious disease at Cardiff Medical School, told CNBC he doesn’t think we need to be too concerned about BA.2, despite the fact that it is slightly more contagious. “I suspect the rising number of cases is related to several factors including BA.2, the relaxation of restrictions and more social mixing, less mask wearing and some waning of immunity from both previous infections and vaccination, especially in those who received boosters early on,” he said. “There has been an upturn in hospital admissions testing positive for Covid in the U.K., but many of these are incidental and there has not been a parallel increase in deaths.” For further that cases are dropping check the World Coronavirus Site.... COVID Live - Coronavirus Statistics - Worldometer https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ Go to Florida, look at the number of cases for a state of 21.6 million population, latest numbers are for 3 day moving average are 898, pretty small for their population, look at USA number of new cases; 18,714, now look at Canada's new cases, they are number 31 and their cases are;3,057. Roughly the USA is 10 times the population so it should be 30,057 (3,057 X 10) but it's only 18,714. So according to the latest numbers the USA is doing better than Canada. Of course that's not the way it was in the past two years but now if one can take the official COVID Live - Coronavirus Statistics - Worldometer data its much safer there than in Canada....check it out!

I didn't leave Canada the last two winters. I had no trouble getting back in. Neither did I but When I do I don't want any silly unnecessary rules returning and also want to make it easier for my USA neighbour's to come here, spend their money and spread some of their wealth and not turn them away with unnecessary rules.

RE: Canadian Snowbirds heading home-Antigen Rapid Tests required

Tourism in Canada is only 1/3 of pre covid. The rapid test requirement serves no purpose but is killing tourism and hassling Canadians`` ....Moisheh. We just completed the ArriveCAN online version. We are heading back to Canada later in March. Very interesting experience. Absolutely HORRIBLE experience. Maybe the phone app is more intuitive? If I was a US visitor to Canada, I would avoid Canada at all costs. Extremely frustrating. We could not get a confirm that we had uploaded our vaccination documents into ArriveCAN ! I have been getting reports from Canadians driving back across the border from the US, saying that Canadian Customs does not even care about ArriveCAN; the border agents are ONLY asking for your "proof of negative test" on your phone screen. What does that tell you about the efficacy of this screening process? It is a CATASTROPHE. That's what. Canada better pull this disastrous ArriveCAN process. I will report exactly what transpires as/after we cross back. Update: ........finally, my wife managed to get our proof of registration that we ARE ARRIVING at the border, and we meet the criteria. This, after 1 hour and 20 minutes putzing around with the **** online version. Thanks very much for this,I am sending all these posts to my MP in hopes that he can raise some interest with the Federal powers to be to change this horrid practice, he said he's working on it, any relevant posts PLEASE put them on here, this foolishness has got to be stopped!

Chuck traveler> I think you misunderstood my post. I think the discussion should continue. But the forum owners dislike any political discussions. Closing has nothing to do with me! I am just another poster. My fault in not being clearer, I didn't mean you, I meant whoever calls the shot on abuse of the board, I have seen many of your posts and they do not IMO ever contradict common courtesy, sorry for not being clear. Actually I looked at my previous post this morning and intended on getting back to you as it was a bit unclear on its meaning.

Careful or this thread will likely be closed! No names on my part but if feelings are hurt that easy and possibly throwing money away to US Drug Stores on a $2 Rapid Test that is sometimes way overcharged is a great way to spend your money when there is no need, sure close it. And maybe a little discussion is good, when I put this on a few days ago there had been no submissions on the Snowbird area of the RV Forum since February 03....37 days ago.....hmmmmm

RE: Canadian Snowbirds heading home-Antigen Rapid Tests required

Our Canadian neighbors flying home tomorrow had to get a PCR test yesterday afternoon. They said it needed to be a PCR within 3 days of the border crossing. Dave The most recent information still says 24 hours. A PCR TEST timeline is 72 hours, Rapid Test ie Antigen is 24 hours but read the Government info as shown below on stretching the 24 hour timeline, PCR test no longer required unless you need or feel safer with more time to get results back, usually PCR Test is much more expensive....and more reliable....but both are Canadian government oversights and should be halted, everyone as a Snowbird should contact their MP on this, I have and he is working on it. From the Government website; "the one day window does not depend on the time of day the test was taken or the time of your flight or entry for example, if your flight is scheduled to leave or you enter by land any time on Friday, you could provide proof of a negative result from an antigen test taken any time on Thursday, or on Friday" So if you really wanted to stretch it you could get the test at 1201am Tuesday and show up at the Canadian border on Wednesday at 1159PM....don't think I would stretch it that far but according to the Government info they do give flexibility of the 24 hours, doing the above might just stretch their patience a tad far BUT its in their info for Rapid Tests.....LOL

RE: Canadian Snowbirds heading home-Antigen Rapid Tests required

We have four Rapid Test Kits (two tests to a kit) left over from the Christmas holidays; can those be used instead, 24 hours before crossing the Canadian border? How I wish that was possible.....there would be no problem, you see our Government does not trust us, that's quite apparent...in many ways... COVID-19 vaccinated travellers entering Canada - Travel restrictions in Canada – Travel.gc.ca https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/covid-vaccinated-travellers-entering-canada#pre-entry-testing "Starting February 28: proof of a professionally administered or observed negative antigen test taken outside of Canada no more than 1 day before your scheduled flight or entry to Canada by land or water the one day window does not depend on the time of day the test was taken or the time of your flight or entry for example, if your flight is scheduled to leave or you enter by land any time on Friday, you could provide proof of a negative result from an antigen test taken any time on Thursday, or on Friday it must be administered or observed by a pharmacy, laboratory, healthcare entity or telehealth service the test must be authorized for sale or distribution in Canada or in the jurisdiction in which it was obtained the test must be performed outside of Canada"

Canadian Snowbirds heading home-Antigen Rapid Tests required

Seeing that soon there will be a swell of Canadian Snowbirds heading home and seeing the protocol at the border is a requirement of a certified Rapid Test (Antigen) test not more than 24 hours prior to crossing has anyone crossed yet or know of anyone crossing? Anyone have any more info on this like did they or do they know of anyone crossing, where did they get the test, costs, was it certified, was there any problem at the border showing the Border personnel the test and acceptance. Really appreciate any info, thanks....

RE: Shaw Direct in Florida

I'd appreciate knowing how it works out for you. If successful I'd get myself a Canadian Roku stick and do the same thing. Also internet speeds keep improving. I'd be surprised after a year and a half you don't have noticeably faster internet speeds in Florida, and maybe even cheaper. ae5573t... Will let you know, our house is in a gated community in Sebring, Florida the problem is all Power and Telecommunications is direct buried, difficult to reinforce, the Century Link facilities is twisted pair copper probably 24 or 26 gauge, no single mode fibre so max is probably 10 Meg from the Module which is several streets away, one option is to take internet with the cable company which I believe is Comcast if Century Link is not fast enough but I think they will be. Anyway I will let you know when we get settled in and I have time to fiddle with it, thanks greatly for your kind help!

RE: Shaw Direct in Florida

Just remember you will have to connect via a VPN (virtual private network) service while in Florida. You must use the VPN because it will fool the Canadian streaming stick to think it is still in Canada when actually in the US so you can get the same Canadian content you get in Canada. Thanks for your help ae5573t, will let you know how it works after we get down there, get our house in order,...been a year and a half!
