RE: MCCS Camp Pendleton

The old Territorial Prison in Yuma is very interesting and worth the stop. Anza-Borrego Desert is also pretty nice and you might want to check out the Salton Sea since youll be close.

RE: Arizona winter stay campgrounds

Other places to consider are Texas, along the gulf coast, New Mexico where its not quite as warm as Arizona but often considered a well kept secret. If you guys are urban folks and love restaurants and theaters, Phoenix is probably a good bet. If you like the ocean, look around Rockport or South Padre Island. And if you like the out of doors and not interested in wall to wall RV parks, look at Las Cruses or Alamogordo

RE: north california coast

If I were you, Id stay in Oregon as the gas prices are a bit cheaper. In Brookings there is a tiny RV park called Apple Hill, and its 55+ so I don't know if you qualify, but its nice and close to the ocean.

RE: sequoia national park

Check at the Visitors Center and see if they have a Junior Ranger program there. Lots of activities for the kiddos.

RE: Travelling across the good ole USA

We travel cross country about every other year to see the grands and have done it just about every season. If I were you, I would I'd leave mid Sept when all the kiddies are back in school and take the northern route there. Hwy 2 is fine but I'd take 90 only because it would take you right thru The Badlands, near Mt Rushmore, near Devils Tower etc.

RE: Hwy 2 Washington

Hwy 2 is a beautiful mountain pass road, dotted with lovely forest campgrounds and beautiful scenery. Your other option would be I90 and if I had my ruthers I would take Hwy 2. As for deaths, I'll bet I90 has a worse record as speed limits range from 75 (which means lots drive 80+) to 55 which no one drive. I would take 2 over 90 any day

User Name still hasn't been fixed

As I mentioned before, my user name was changed from Roy&Lynne to Cayote Melon without my asking or wanting. I sent an email per instructions a couple of weeks ago and I still haven't been changed back.I wouldn't mind, but it irks me when I know how to spell Coyote.

RE: Big Bend campgrounds closed

Castolon is the Visitor's Center, the campground is Cottonwood; there is no actual campground called Castolon. (seems just a grammatical oops by the OP). Good news is Los Diablos are on scene so hopefully it will get extinguished soon. The news article says "Due to a fire in the Castolon area, the following closures are in effect: - Castolon is closed - Cottonwood Campground Closed - River Road West from Buenos Aires to Castolon Closed. - The Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive is open only to Mile 22."

RE: Big Bend campgrounds closed

Oh dear, how sad We were planning on heading that way next winter. Will have to keep our finger crossed that it opens.

RE: Looking for good campground in Portland OR

There isn't a lot close to Portland. Our favorite is a Regional Park near the town of Greshim, (I don't think that is spelled right) called Oxbow, but its dry and really out of the way.

RE: User Name

But the only way you can change your user name is to email them and ask that it be changed. I tried to change it back and finally sent them an email.

RE: User Name

It was Roy&Lynne. Cayote Melon is cute but how did I get it. The Roy half couldn't have done it because he can no long see well enough to log in and he knows how to spell Coyote

User Name

I went to send a PM and when I logged in my password didn't work. Turns out my password was fine, but someone changed my username. I wouldn't mind, but suddenly I'm Cayote Melon, which isn't even spelled correctly. LOL Did I miss something.
