RE: GM and Gearing

You can get the 3.42 connected to the 6.6 gas - just need to buy the Express van.

RE: What's the longest/heaviest you would tow with a 1/2 ton?

I have towed my trailer with a half ton, three-quarter ton, one ton, and one ton dually. Gas and Diesel. There is a difference. To me, it depends on how far, and how often. And the purpose of travel. My trailer was intended for campgrounds (within 300-400 miles) with my daughters. If I was traveling across the US, and not staying in one spot often, I would want a smaller trailer. If I was traveling across the US, or thought I would be, I would be going bigger than half ton.

RE: Spendy used tow vehicle

I had a chance to buy a 2019 3500 Suburban with 20k miles for $75k. I decided that I could keep my $22k Express and just get a 3500 Sierra CC for nearly the same price. If there was a market (meaning that a auto company could make a profit) for these, I would think one of the OEMs would be doing that. There is much complexity to selling vehicles.

RE: Fuelly mileage of the big three diesels

... DEF adds an additional $.001-$.002 to the diesel cost per mile on fuel so it is really a non-issue. I disagree on DEF cost. My trip to Kansas and back was $.0075 - much closer to a real penny than your data. Were you towing? If not, then you either use way to much DEF(and have an underlying issue), get horrible fuel mileage, or paid way to much for a gallon of DEF. The standard usage for DEF is between 50 to 1 and 60 to 1 meaning one gallon of DEF for every 50-60 gallon of diesel should be used if the system is operating correctly. Round trip from Michigan to Kansas is roughly 2,000 miles. If you got 18 mpg on the highway, then that would mean you used 111 gallons of diesel. Divide that by 50 and you get 2.22 gallons of DEF used the whole trip. At $2.97 per gallon at the pump, that would come out to $6.60 for DEF over the course of 2,000 miles. Divide $6.60 by 2,000 miles and you get $.0033 cents per mile. I haven't needed DEF since 2016 and that was the last time I checked prices. So while I am a little short with my $.001-.002, I am not that far off and it is still not enough to make much of a difference. If the reason why yours is much higher because you are paying the $12-15$ for the 2.5 gallon DEF jug($4.80- $6.00 per gallon), then that is user error for paying too much for old DEF. There is a Love's the next town over from you that sells DEF for $2.97 at the pump. https://i.postimg.cc/qMhVYJjS/Loves-DEF-MI.png height=350 width=700 I was towing between MI and Kansas. 10 mpg. I purchased the Def at the truck pumps at $2.99, and most have used slightly more than your calculation. I was surprised by the amount of DEF I used, but followed the messages.

RE: Tail light wiring for towing

I second KTSOV with his question. Does your Equinox have the 2.0T engine that came with the hitch and tow wiring? If so, take it back to the dealer for warranty service. If it was wired by the RV store, the wiring harness they used plugs into the light socket, and then the harness socket to the light. They did not get the socket sealed correctly, and moisture is getting to the taillight electrical system or into the trailer plug causing the issue. Was it installed on the exterior of the vehicle? I installed my 4-way plug to be inside the vehicle and just hang out the hatch when needed.

RE: New and confused

As a dad of four daughters (and I survived the 6319 consecutive days of teenage daughters), I would suggest a full size van. Yes, a crew-cab would work (had one). You can get an off-rental (2019 or soon 2020), one-ton Express for around $23k. Make sure you find a 6.0 V8. Additionally, some have the sliding door. This vehicle (although not really cool, or quiet) will make traveling more about fun than "they are touching me". Of course, you may have three perfect siblings that never do such a thing. And if the drive is more fun for Dad, it is more fun for everyone. They also make it so you can take friends or other family members. I suggest the large white van!

RE: 2021 Ford F-150 hybrid

The hybrid will be able to tow up to 12,700 pounds and haul up to 2,120 pounds, Ford says.

RE: Nikola and GM team up to make 900 HP Electric Supertruck.

I hope the SEC applies the laws consistently! Anything Elon got away with should not be punishable to any other company/executive. Don't think that would be the case. Elon has enough money to bribe or lobby his way out of things like he has in the past, Nikola does not. It's is more like Elon is clearly the diving force behind Tesla and the largest stock holder. Any attempt to separate Tesla and Elon probably would have destroyed the company and done enormous damage to the minority shareholders. By leaving things alone the shareholders the SEC allowed the minority shareholders to get a 400% return on investment. That was hardly a disservice to anyone except the shorts who deserved what they got for actively trying to destroy the company and the value of the shareholders. And Milton was the driving force behind Nikola, and a financial company holding shorts in Nikola can destroy the value of the shareholders? Seems like you are picking winners and losers.

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

$140,000 - what year? Range with what batteries? Having an order form is no different than the other EVs.

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

According to Tesla, its new racetrack star can do 0-60 mph in less than two seconds, will do a quarter-mile in under nine seconds, has a top speed of 200 mph, more than 1,100 horsepower, and a range of over 520 miles. " Plaid Model S , Elon Musk says will be "the fastest production vehicle ever." In what year? What will be the range at 200 mph? And at what cost? Seems just like the same marketing that Elon fans were complaining about from the other EV companies.

RE: Rivian 1/2 ton high temp, grade test. Good read/video

Also HOW much does FUEL cost ya as compare to using EV car or truck Btw Tesla SChargers are stil free Maybe you enjoy breathing exhaust fumes, have at it Since the radical continues - If I buy a brand new Malibu that gets 40 mpg, it will be cheaper and easier to drive from MI to FL or MI to KS. If I go visit my daughter, and take a week vacation, I would like to see her for more than an hour. Tesla built the price of charging into the vehicle. And would you like to see the 1000ft Coal Ships delivering coal to the coal generating electric plant? And the dozers and equipment that they use to fill the piles for winter? Nothing clean about those ships and dozers and conveyors. And, I own an EV. I did not buy because I would save the planet. I bought it because I have a use for a local vehicle, and the price was fantastic. No matter what is said, the recharging infrastructure in Michigan does not exist to use the vehicle on trips to Northern MI unless you have personal charging capability at your destination.

RE: GM 6.6 gas

Must be there are only 3 RVers that own a 6.6 gas engine, based on the responses. Must be many that go for the Duramax.

RE: GM releases more info on their Electric vehicle line up.

The 1/2 ton electric and Nikola truck drivetrain are somewhere in this bunch. Looks like they are getting serious. I’ll guess at mid 2022 for production of the half ton. Which isn’t that far away. https://electrek.co/2020/09/16/gm-lineup-ultium-electric-drive-units/ So you are considering the GMC Hummer a 3/4 or one ton? Will be unveiled on 10/20/2020 and built in 2021!

amazing how I see similar behavior to Elon, and the fanboys are all over this. How much in deposits does Elon have for a semi that is years late?

...And I agree I am not entirely comfortable being that close to 5,000 to 10,000 psi tank of hydrogen. But you are comfortable sitting on a 900 Volt wire?

RE: Nikola and GM team up to make 900 HP Electric Supertruck.

The announcement was not marketing hype. The announcement was a business transaction (strategic partnership) announcing that one business was buying service/product from another. Investors see this as positive, and react with purchasing stock. Last week, GM and Honda announced they have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding following extensive preliminary discussions toward establishing a North American automotive alliance. Today, GM announced that the Ultium battery – the power source behind GM’s future EV portfolio - will feature an almost completely wireless battery management system, or wBMS. I think I see a GMC Hummer soon!

RE: Avoiding AFS/VVT issues in next truck

I remember the days (like 2007) when the argument was that 6 speed transmissions were going to always be shifting, who needed more than 4 speeds. Now 6 is not enough. 10 may give a slight fuel economy advantage, it may keep the rpm range closer all the time. I have never thought "wow, I might be in 8th gear if it had 10, or wish I had more gears to shift through" while driving or towing 15k. Then again, when driving the 10 speed I never thought - "I wonder what gear I would be in if there was only 6".

RE: 2020 Chevy 3500

The LTZ is very nice. I drove 3k miles in 6 days in a CC LTZ DRW last month. It rides much better than a regular cab LT DRW.
