RE: Looking for RV parks near Boston MA

We've stayed at Winter Island in Salem. Basically just a marina parking lot with RV sites around the perimeter and tent sites. Two caveats: (1) the directions to the campground will take you over city streets with fairly low weight limits, better to follow truck route. (2) if you will be out in the evening be sure to ask for a gate key as they lock it up fairly early in the evening! (don't ask!)

RE: What ever happened to RV Park Reviews?

Completely agree with all of the comments. They took something that worked really well and made it practically useless! Sometimes I hate "progress"!

RE: Tires question

Been running that size XPS Ribs on my fiver for 8 years, 5k to 7k miles per year. Just put on eight new ones this summer (2 axle, duals). Never one issue with the tires. Trailer weighs 18,500 ready to to travel and I run the tires at 70 psi based on axle weights. I heartily endorse the XPS Ribs!

RE: What do I need to know - smart car- toy hauler

Fair amount of mis-information on smart car safety here. cwill925 has it right. If you are concerned do some investigation, don't listen to uninformed alarmists. Our 2011 smart was hit 3/4 head on by a Chevy pickup running a red light at 50 MPH plus. My buddy & I had slight injuries caused by the seat belts. All eight (yes 8) airbags deployed and the egg shaped frame protecting the passenger compartment was undamaged, doors still opened and closed. We have no fear at all driving our smart - better crash damage ratings than most cars on the road.

RE: NM-26 Between Hatch and Deming, New Mexico

Use it all the time. Good road with light traffic. Only drawback is it is two lane, dead straight most of the way. USE YOUR HEADLIGHTS!

RE: replacement bunk latch for rockwood roo hybrid

I would start with Colaw RV Salvage There is a pretty comprehensive list here

RE: Campground Maximum Length

Dutchman and others had lots of good advice and it will usually be sufficient, but the campgrounds can still throw you an unexpected curve. Last summer I ran into one in an Oregon State Park where I would fit in the site. It was at a right angle to roadway. I knew this and knew I could get in, BUT when we arrived we found there were three trash cans protected by concrete posts in the road directly opposite the site! No way to get in there with my rig! That was the only one out of 12 Oregon State Parks that I could not get into. A couple of places took some jockeying and in a couple I had to park the truck away from our site.

RE: RV sales are slipping

"RVs can range in price from about $12,000 for a folding camping trailer to $212,000 for a high-end motor home ..." some real in depth research there! Not!

RE: Escapees?

Escapees is a good group, not just MHs. Large percentage of retirees, but they have added a group for the younger crowd. Lots of sub-groups that cover every interest imaginable. The annual Escapades are well worth attending if for nothing more than the seminars and marketplace. We've been members for years, use the parks occasionally when they are in the right areas. They also do a lot of advocacy work for the RV community.

RE: Wisconsin Dells

Country Roads is nice, just there two weeks ago. Nice shopping center close by and easy access to Lake Delton & WI Dells.

RE: Fifth wheel Travel on I-90 from Montana to seattle

Just did US 12 Across Washington, Idaho and Montana eastbound with rig in signature. From Lewiston to Lolo, MT is a beautiful drive along the Clearwater River and over Lolo Pass, and yes as you get into the Bitterroots on the east end there is a curvy road sign that says "Next 77 miles"! If you are going to be traveling in the mountains get the Mountain Directory app for your phone. For westbound 12 over Lolo Pass it says: "Going west from the summit truck warning sign says -- 6% grade next 5 miles -- trucks 35 MPH. It is a steady descent at 6% with many 35 and 45 MPH curves. After 5 miles of 6% there are 3 miles of lesser grade before the road begins to roll and then level out. About a mile down from the summit is a sign -- Winding road next 77 miles. Yes, that is seventy-seven!" A fun drive in my truck!

RE: Nose Piece Waxing/Cleaning Bugs Off

No comment on reaching the top, but if you apply Rejex regularly the bugs will come off with a hose.

RE: Need to find an anwser or help please

You will get better results if you put your post in the Dinghy Towing forum and state what you need in the subject line instead of just "need help"

RE: Yellowstone: Cody to Gardiner

On June 6 we traveled from Cody to Gardiner with a 37' fiver and HDT. Left Cody at 9 AM. Went north out of Cody and picked up the Chief Joseph Highway. Beautiful drive, top speed of about 40, and a lot at 30-35. Very light traffic. Turned west onto Beartooth Highway into Yellowstone. Traffic picked up and the road was really narrow, bit of nail bitter all the way across to Mammoth Springs. We did see a bear on the roadside, of course the traffic was stopped dead while people looked and took pictures. Arrived at Rocky Mountain RV in Gardiner, MT at 1 PM, better time than we expected. Good road all the way if you don't mind mountain driving. With the Volvo climbs are no problem and a good engine brake makes descents a snap as well.

RE: Slide out topper fabric

Just replaced ours with fabric from Carefree of Colorado. Call to order, better price than doing it on line. Appears to be good quality.
