RE: RV "Coffee Table" Books

The Ride of Our Lives by Mike Leonard ($17 new, $4 or so on ebay) is the story of a former NBC producer who bought an RV and piled his family plus elderly parents into it for a ride across the US. It's has several emotions from humor to eyes tearing up. Probably not worth the new price but definitely worth the used dollars.

RE: Purchased my first RV

We keep an expandable hose in a blue tote in one of the side storage compartments and another length of hose in the back bumper. You will probably never need 30 feet of hose and probably 15 feet rarely. When hooking up the hose one should keep a slope down and away from the camper 1/4 inch drop per foot of length or about 2 inches per 10 feet. To slope a 30 foot hose would require a 6 inch drop over its length.

RE: Travel When Restrictions lifted

We have yearly plans to drive up to Door County, WI in early August. Hoping the good people of DC will let us in. They don't want visitors dragging in the virus. Their normal population is about 12,000 which blossoms to 25K in the summer and their one hospital could not handle very many virus cases. Corrected numbers: Door County has 27K permanent residents but draws 2.5 million visitors during the summer; many from Illinois. Just count the license plates at the grocery store!

RE: Door county WI

There is some talk lately about keeping the tourists out of Door County due to the virus. Their medical facilities are in Sturgeon Bay and not equipped to handle a bunch of virus patients. I think they have 10 ICU beds. We have plans for two weeks in August and we are considering cancelling our annual trip. I suspect we will still be practicing social distancing and maybe even wearing masks in public.

RE: which TT is best for full living?

Where will the TT be kept? Any chance a cabin would work for you. It would be more easily made 4 seasons. There is probably no TT made for 4 seasons despite what the manufacturers might advertise.

RE: Water heater question

The argument against the drain valve is that it has to be removed to flush out the crud that collects inside the heater. Of course, the crud does not have to be flushed out but the heater works better. Same as the water heater in the stick and bricks house.

RE: need a place to overnight in Chicago. UPDATED

Call the school and find out if the school will be open for that semester. Not a sure thing these days.

RE: Money from government

Just checked; no money. However, I usually have to pay so they have to use my Social Security direct deposit information. Anybody received theirs yet?

RE: Are Travel Trailers selling at all right now?

I can't imagine that this would be a good time to sell anything since most of us are stuck at home. Unless it could be viewed on the internet but still would have to be closed in person.

Money from government

Since most or all of us on this Forum are due to get a check from the government to tide us over the pandemic it would be interesting to learn how long it is taking for us to get paid. I checked yesterday and mine was not at the bank yet. Did you get yours? I thought I put this in `Around the campfire' but the system had its own idea... Congratulations on those who have received checks. Much faster than I thought. We could probably close this post but I don't know how to do that.

RE: Anyone have a favorite RV wax ???

I recently used a paste wax which, if applied properly, would do the best job but it ended up with streaks even tho I used an electric buffer. Do the next time I will use a liquid was with the buffer; not sure which one.

RE: Water Heater Gas Supply Line

Are you sure the heater you bought is an exact replacement for the old one which probably would not have DSI (Direct spark ignition) and will it fit in the same hole?

RE: turn on camera for video conferencing

We're just learning also but there may be a small icon that shows a camera (ours is in the upper right) that you have to click on for the other party to see you. We have the same video conference with our doctor for next Monday. We may be good at this before it is all over.

Did you sanitize the lines after draining the pink stuff?

RE: CDC and the government may be loosening the lockdown

I don't understand how some workers can go back to work unless the jobs are like the Tru Green guy who works by himself. But even he must mingle back at the shop to fill the tanks. The grass cutters are working in my town and they wear masks. Many like the outlaws wore when robbing the old time banks. I agree that the critical workers are still working. Everyone has an opinion so here's mine. It will be at least a year before the social spacing can be lifted. Being on the down slope only helps the medical teams deal with the sick. It doesn't mean there are no more sick.

RE: Tightening the A/C bolt, putting Thread Lock on them

As I remember the Thread Lock guy explained that when a bolt/nut was tightened there was somewhere around 50% space left over that the fluid fills in to cause the locking. (not sure of the space anymore)

RE: Utah?Next trip plan good distraction! Ideas needed :)

Check out the itinerary from Adventure Caravans tour of the Western Parks for more ideas. They take the entire month of September for their usual tour.
