RE: Covid 19 warning

The US Population is 330,000,000 and in 5 months the number of deaths was 130,000. The number of deaths from COVID as a percent of the population is 0.03939 %. Compared to the number of cancer cases diagnosed in 2019 (1,762.450...) and 607,000 deaths that percentage of death is 0.184%. A very well orchestrated plan, or an unimaginable set of events that just fell into place ... with the United States front and center ? Scare people with a virus, force them to wear masks and place them in quarantine. Count the number of dead every second of every day, in every News Headline. By the way, ninety-nine and eight-tenths of the people who get the virus, recover. About one to two tenths of one percent who get the virus, die. Most all of them have other medical problems. Did you catch that ? Less than 1/2 of a percent die. Closed businesses = 35,000,000+ instantly unemployed. Remove entertainment and prohibit Recreation; Closing parks, gyms, bars, restaurants, sports. No dating. No touching. Isolate people. Dehumanize them. Close Temples and Churches, prohibit worship. Create a vacuum and let depression, anxiety, hopelessness and desperation set in. So...you're going with "this is a conspiracy theory and blown way out of proportion"? Are my two dead neighbors (mother and daughter), my dead 31-year old co-worker (who was a health nut, runner), and thousand Americans dying every day part of that "hysteria"? My wife is an RN. You may not be seeing this in your part of the woods (yet), but come on down to areas where this is very real, and spend some time in a hospital cafeteria and talk to the nurses and doctors. It seems you think we're all being misled but have you considered the propaganda you're being fed, as posted, might indicate that you perhaps are the one being misled? I think others have pointed out how incorrect and misleading your numbers are. Far, far more people have this than are "official" and part of the counts. 160,000 dead American moms, dads, grandmas, papas, aunts, uncles, and yes, even kids in just a *few months*. Think about that. It's hype? How about 750,000 dead around the world - they're all part of some grand conspiracy? It amazes me that folks will buy into that, while in plain view the very foundations of our Constitution and country are being dismantled each and every day. We "might" have an election, our public education and postal service is being destroyed from within by those who want to build for-profit alternatives, and we take no action while an adversary puts out hit jobs on our brave service members - what patriot ever believed we'd hear those things?

RE: Covid 19 warning

It looks like we are in the last phase of a promising vaccine. The trial is said to take 3 months, so if it proves to be effective, that should make a vaccine available by November. They have also said they are already producing the vaccine in a gamble that it will work, so the supply will be available when the time comes. Give a month for people to receive it which gives us hope to start getting out by January. We are hoping for this outcome, how about you? I keep hearing consistently that it will be early 2021 until it's actually available to regular non-trial users. The problem is that based on lots of polling, a large percentage of folks are saying they won't trust it, feeling it's being rushed, and may be unsafe. That will greatly diminish the effectiveness, as far as creating herd immunity, and lots of people will still be at risk. On top of that, we have the gang who're spreading nonsense about chips being implanted in us by the vaccine, that's not helping. Of course, if it works, those that get it will be fine. If it works. I'll probably wait a month or so, and see if those early adopters start growing a third eye in their foreheads or start shambling about like zombies :-)

RE: Covid 19 warning

How often does that need to happen in a population of 328 million people to create / prolong a significant problem? Obviously that's a big part of the problem here in the USA. On top of that, most people aren't wearing masks or taking precautions, because there hasn't been a serious enough national campaign to get them to understand how important that is. As well, tens of millions of Americans who said just a few months ago that they didn't really want a national health care system because they had "great coverage" through their employer, are now finding out why that's a very bad way to get health insurance, because they're now out of work, with nothing. And here we are, sadly.

RE: Covid 19 warning

My wife is an RN. Too many patients, especially lately, mentioned that they had believed that it was a hoax, and are now no longer with us. It's a horrible way to die, on a ventilator and slowly drowning in your own fluids, fighting for each breath, with no family or loved ones permitted to be there and hold your hand. Compared to that, it shouldn't be a big deal to wear a mask. That, plus a widespread, robust, coordinated national testing and tracing strategy is how every other developed country has beaten this. We're the USA, we can do this.

RE: I Have One Chance

In the Orlando area there are several places that rent RVs and will set them up for you and pick them up when you are through. Most of this is done for Disney World but I bet they would be able to suggest some other less crowded, more snowbird type campgrounds in the surrounding areas. Something like this and the other park-rental idea would be good, but in the southwest or Tampa area in a really nice RV resort. Thanks for the suggestions, keep them coming!

RE: I Have One Chance

Hi neighbor! The wife and I have been traveling the country for years in our motorhome and wouldn't (won't) travel any other way. I have modified our motorhome to suit our needs and we are very comfortable in it for months at a time. I you're looking for a resort with a variety of park models to try out, Lake-in-Wood around Lancaster would be my choice. It is pretty much a self-contained rv park with all the amenities you need, including a restaurant. Good Luck with your quest and Happy Retirement! Thanks Nazareth neighbor! Good tip. One thing I have in my favor now is that she's an RN, and formerly was an airlines and hotels person. No more! So if there's anything positive coming out of this, this is one small thing. Where in the area do you find is good for RV storage/parking?

RE: I Have One Chance

Good advice above. Also, suggest you take her to an RV show...when they start up again. Shows have a variety of rigs, should help her realize the possibilities. We've been, several times. It's more the "lifestyle" she's unsure about, what it's like to live in one for a few weeks or months. She does like a nice bath :-) I know her. I think once she's on the open road in a nice coach, seeing how different it is from the small garbage can I stupidly rented before, she'll come around. As well in a nice resort with activities and amenities!

RE: I Have One Chance

Thanks for the replies! We have gone the Hershey show, it's great. She does get interested there. Sorry for the 'snowboarding' typo, I fixed it (dang autocorrect!). I like the AZ park model idea, or local rental. Can anyone recommend some nice RV resorts around that area that might have park models? Is it warm enough in January? I'll do some research of course, just looking for good opinions based on your wealth of experiences.

I Have One Chance

Hello team (always know when someone uses that phrase they're going to ask for something!) Looks like my wife and I will retire at the end of this year. I've had an RV in my previous marriage and loved it. I always dreamed of snowbirding in retirement, someplace warm. My wife was always dubious, no RV experience. To get her on board, a few years ago I rented a small class c sight unseen from a well known national RV rental place and we flew to Miami, picked it up and drove through the keys for ten days. It was cramped and crappy RV, too hurried with lots of driving, so it didn't go over well! I really screwed that up. So now, she's coming around to the idea and agreed as a trial run we can rent one in January for a month or so before deciding to buy. This time I want to do it right. I'm thinking a nicer class A, not huge, and perhaps mostly stationary either in the Tampa area or southwest in some nice RV resorts to see some sights, relax and enjoy. Any hints and tips as far as where to rent, stay, how to pull this off? Is it too late for reservations? I don't think lazy-days in Tampa rents RVs anymore. I don't want to drive a lot once we're there, or be totally stationary. I'm guessing I couldn't rent in PA that time of year as rigs would be winterized, so have to fly and drive? Any help appreciated!

RE: RV snowbirding or MX or Carribean

Those who complain about "global warming", have clearly never spent a summer any where in Canada. Our winters make some places in Alaska blush. The concern is primarily the distinct rise in sea-water temperatures, which is melting the polar ice caps, flooding our coastal cities, and causing fuel for extreme storms, not air temps. Yes, there's still very cold weather in northern places. But as a trend, we're seeing record highs, warmest summers ever, etc around the world.
