RE: Anyone Cancelling Truck Camper Trips Due to Fuel Prices?

Ed and I just had this discussion - our problem is that the "clock is ticking" (how long will we be healthy enough to want to do our epic sightseeing trips?) so we're going, no matter what the price. Adventure before Dementia !;) -------- Adventure before it. In Dawson City, Yukon on a 6000 km trip from Van Isle. Paying up to $2.60/L. That's per litre, folks. X 3.8 for conversion to a gallon. Painful yes, but worth every penny. It's all relative...

RE: Anyone Cancelling Truck Camper Trips Due to Fuel Prices?

No cancellation. Heading to the Yukon for 3 weeks. 4000+ miles round trip. 2011 F350 6.7L diesel. Not happy about the diesel fuel costs (~$8.25/US gal) in BC/YN, but would be even less happy if we didn't go. Will be fuel and food smart, and will remind ourselves at the pumps that there aren't many truck camping summers left for these 65+ year old bones. A Fortunate Canadian

RE: VIDEO: Bisbee, AZ. BLM Boondocking & Pit Mine

Love that little town. Stayed at the Shady Dell on two occasions. They have a website (theshadydell). If you would like to stay in a vintage trailer, watch outdoor movies and be able to walk to town...its a treat. For those with a morbid interest in graveyards...there is one right next door.

RE: Tailgate support rack

Considering the weight of the tailgate, the possible damage from camper, bumper and rocks....and the cost of repair/replacement...I would recommend leaving it at home.

RE: GRK fasteners for camper jack bracket re-install

Thanks for the response, gentlemen. Most appreciated. While I can't change the framework (at least not without considerable work), I can upgrade the fasteners. These GRK exceed the specs of typical lag screws, have an aggressive thread (good bite), are very unlikely to rust AND they are torque head. These fasteners were an engineering requirement for certain parts of our house build due to superior shear strength. I just may go with these for the jack brackets. Thanks again.

RE: GRK fasteners for camper jack bracket re-install

Thanks and you are correct, Larry...GRK fasteners are available at most hardware and building stores. The question is whether anyone has had experience using these for jack bracket installation. From what I can see...they would be superior to regular hex/pan head SS/Galv screws. Certainly are more robust.

GRK fasteners for camper jack bracket re-install

Unable to find any threads on this topic. Has anybody used GRK fasteners when re-installing jack brackets? I just purchased a camper and have to replace a bent bracket (previous owner). I recently had a home built and the contractor used GRK fasteners (engineered) for some structural wood applications. Heavy thread, good coatings, high shear strength, no pilot hole needed. Other than color (bronze-like), they would appear to be a good alternative to the typical lag screws. Newby truck camper owner here. Any input welcomed. Thanks!
